The idea of covering electronic music is so wild! I always assume electronic artists aren't producing their music in a live setting so reproducing it and staying true to all the details is something else!
it really depends on the artist some artist never intended to play their own material but when they decided they wanted to play live they started learning how to play what they composed ( its weird ) put like that in a sentence
@@TheNewNumberTw0When I finally get around to going bike touring, it’s gonna be on my playlist for sure. Nothing better to navigate our tattered landscapes.
The fact you did a cover, stayed close to the original and added your own touches is absolutely amazing! This isn't just a cover, but a work of art, great job!
Reach For The Dead is a fantastic track and your cover is really fascinating, I totally enjoyed watching and listening, I love the idea putting it to tape! BoC will love this too.
You nailed it! I'm a huge huge BoC fan. If someone told me this was a live BoC version, I could have believed it. "Could" because BoC live acts are (were) so rare.
Every time I listened to boards of canada reach for the dead I get very sad and I don't know why but the cover of this song is absolutely fantastic and I love it it is my favorite cover of boards for canada nice job you did there it's very good and a fan of boc
This cover feels different. The crackling hiss percussive sample sounds like breathing at times. There's generally more fuzz and distortion in this one. The melodies feel lightly muffled and punchy. The drums have a tasteful amount of unintentional reverb from the room. This one is more like were looking at the same song, same story, just from a different perspective.
@@rdrgyeah right?! i was wondering why there's no covers of it compared to their other songs, must be cuz it's so difficult to replicate and ppl have too much respect for it
Great work. This manages to be both a faithful reproduction and inventive remix at the same time. How did you sync the Minilogue bassline to everything? Is this also running off the click-track? (I've read the comments about how everything was synced).
Hey! Thank you! I am not familiar with VS2, from a quick search I have found nothing about pajen firmware for it. The alternative would be someting like a beatstep pro or any sequencer with probability per step, or downgrading to VS1 (cheaper for sure). Another option I guess would be using song mode in order to skip to different sequences, but again, I am not familiar with VS2 so I am not sure how effectively could this work. Hope it helps :)
Thanks! Tascam 424 is acting as mixer/tape looper - tracks 1-2-3 on tape contain the main drone(1), the pads(2) and arpeggio (3); track 4 is dedicated to the click source which is synced to Volca Sample, which plays the drums, slightly distorted with the bass driver, its output goes to channel 1; Korg Monologue is playing the bass and goes to channel 5/6 as mono. Channel 4 is used as a return input channel for ibanez delay, which receives audio from the tascam effect send!
Was it a long tape loop or just long recordings on the tape? What's running through the bass driver? The vs? Edit to add: I've listened to this video many times, i definitely prefer it to the original.
Thanks mate! The pads are on the first and second tracks on tape, third track is arp! Volca is just playing drums in this case, I synced it to tape via 4th track where I recorded a click
@@Unifono2012 yes, exactly. For drone on first channel I recorded a sub bass synth, a medium range distorted synth, a pad and reversed some keys stems, lots of reverbs. Plus on the first track a hihat c/o crushed with bit reducer plugin
this is amazing..... when you say "syncing", is there an actual a signal locking the Volca to the Tascam?? Reels of 2" tape usually have a track of smpte for sync, never occurred to me to try it with a cassette.....
Hey! By syncing to tape I meant I synchronized the volca sample bpm to the recorded sounds on tape, using a click track (recorded also on tape) which sets Volca bpm :)

@@co5ic very well said and I know what you mean!
well, BoC is the type of band to compose and record with hardware synths and keyboards, so they're much more coverable than most electronic artists.
Tomorrow's Harvest is so amazing, such an underrated album from them
I dont really fan this album but i like reach for the dead, cold earth, nothing is real, New seeds and Come to dust
It's honestly their best album.
Its my favorite. its a map to the apocalypse
My favourite!❤❤

Just proves you don't need a room full of gear to make great music. Excellent job!
Trust me he has more
really impressive cover, the synths/drums are spot on compared to the original track yet you add your own touch to it. i love it
Thank you so much! 🙏

Goes to show how clever Boc are. This sounds good but, its so difficult getting that exact sound they achieved.
One of my favourite songs by BoC, covered beautifully. Thanks for this.
This is reminiscent of the “Bad day” version of Happy cycling but Reach for the dead. Bravo sir 👏🏻
Those drums sound incredible!
i was not ready for those drums, really enjoyed them!
2:45 Such a good drop.
This sounds like god looking down on us in disappointment

Excellent use of the Ibanez Analog Delay pedal! Fantastic cover!

takes me back to the first time i listened to tomorrow's harvest. thank you.
This cover is so good! That delay adds so much tasteful grit to the track, and pushes the atmosphere of the original even further. Well done!
Absolutely incredible work, sounds beautiful
I honestly never thought I would see a cover of this amazing song.
You killed it.
I love it with the beats reaching for the head
Mad ups to the Tascam!
A great person just posted a link to this. I feel so good now
Skipped to last half and subscribed

“Impressive!”
Also, I used to have that exact same Tascam 4-track/mixer. I forgot how good that thing was.
i actually think i like this more than the original, great job!
Well well done!
We want more
today is the day when i'm watched this for ~100 times

Thanks! Monologue is synced via Volca Sync out, so indirectly from the tape recorded click track from Tascam 424 :)
