Phenomenal movie. Thanks for taking the time to give us your take on this new release from Criterion.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the review. Really good western for sure.
This film introduced me to 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door.'
Mama take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore
It's getting dark, too dark to see
I feel I'm knockin' on Heaven's door
Yes, what a great soundtrack!
I don’t have much money to keep going, but I’m planning one more trip to get Black God, White Devil, and I may also be tempted to get Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
Deus e o diabo na terra do sol! Black god, white devil.
Understand. It’s important to pace yourself. Let us know what you think of Black God, White Devil when you have a chance to watch it.
This is going to be my blind buy. It seems like to good film to pair with my last fall sale blind buy of McCabe and Miss Miller which is excellent. A third film pairing would be Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid from the same time period.
Yes, another great western to add to the collection for sure. I really enjoyed it!
This is possibly THE great American Western (though I guess Once Upon a Time in the West will always get that accolade). It marks both the end of the 'wild' west and also the end of the optimism of the 1960s and it's told as a tragedy of two friends on opposing sides of history. A masterpiece. Peckinpah fell out with the studio and they butchered his vision of the film which is why the 3rd cut exists on this boxset. Watch that one even though it's 2K instead of 4K.
Yes, I need to watch that 3rd cut. Really good film with a nice soundtrack from Dylan.
Excited to pick up this release along with Risky Business when that drops in about a week
Yes, I am also looking forward to picking up Risky Business next week as well.
Outside of maybe "The Man From Laramie," this one was just so convincing with its New Mexico built world.
Totally agree, Cody! The landscapes and scenery in this western are beautiful and look great on this disc.
Your mom must be cool as hell!!
Ha ha. She’s the coolest!
I just got my copy 2 days ago..finally!I got the copy of this great movie that I've been looking for! It's the preview cut!Love it!
Awesome. Glad you got your copy, Jeffery! Enjoy it. This film looks so nice on the new 4K.
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.... Wow. I watched EVERY cut. I really, really liked this movie. The movie is flawed, but I loved every scene, every line of dialogue, every character, every out-of-place song, every shot, and every turn of the narrative. The main characters were miscast -- especially Kris Kristofferson -- but I didn't care. I was sucked into the Nineteenth-Century world and enjoyed every frame. This is a masterpiece.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, my friend. Keep up the good work!
Glad you enjoyed the Pat Garrett set, Jeff, and this review! Really good movie for sure. I love a good western.
@@20thand21stMovies I have been praying to the God of Physical Media that The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) be released on 4K U.H.D. -- perhaps as part of the Criterion Collection. Have you seen it? Did you enjoy it?
Also, I decided to watch The Kid (2019). I enjoyed that film as well. Ethan Hawke plays Pat Garrett and Dane DeHaan plays William Bonney. We need more westerns!
I love the jailhouse scene, when he says yeah hes unalived me too, so good
Yes, some great lines in this western and a wonderful soundtrack by Dylan. Good movie.
I haven’t seen this in years but I remember being a fan of it. I’ll definitely pick it up during the next sale. I highly recommend Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia if you haven’t seen it yet. It’s up there with Straw Dogs for me as one of my favorite Peckinpah flicks.
My favorite Bob Dylan song is Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again. Epic title and a great song. Girl From North Country featuring Johnny Cash is also a solid song.
Defined worth a pickup, Hunter. I enjoyed this film and that music from Dylan really elevates it.
One of my all time top ten films and I've been searching for a blu ray for years. I'm so disappointed that they've made this US only.
Hopefully this title will get a UK 🇬🇧 release in the near future.
I saw it for the first time last week but the film clicked for me right away and held my attention throughout. The River scene is just superb...nothing is said but both men understood. A Peckinpah fan told me to start with the preview cut so I have watched it twice now. I kinda dig its rough unfinished appearance you know, it's just like you would expect for something smuggled out of the studio...wow! I hope that maybe The Wild Bunch can get the 4k treatment next
Yes, I too enjoyed Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. I need to check out The Wild Bunch as well.
Have not seen this, but love Wild Bunch and was impressed by Straw Dogs (definitely a rough watch) so quite interested in this edition. Your review and recommendation may help close the deal.
Dave, I need to add The Wild Bunch to my watchlist for sure. Just looked on IMDB and the cast looks good.
@20thand21stMovies Oh, it's tremendous. I am quite surprised WB has not yet released it with 2024 being the 55th anniversary and the film being recently restored. I hope, but doubt, it will be a November Criterion release (also hoping for Kong, in that it is also conspicuously absent, but probably only slightly less unlikely with it being a laser disc title)
