I had the pleasure of being part of her band for 5 gigs and I can assure you that she is one of a kind. A unique soul.
I'm Portuguese and this song still gives me goosebumps, its embeded in our history...
..in our history in our poorness too.
Beautiful song loved it the second I first watched the music video when I was a child
When you are a Portuguese who couldn't step in her land for 2 years and get to see this... and then you just tear up because this is yours and you didn't know you missed your roots to this extent.
This song represents what is most profound in the Portuguese soul.
@@starvortex9 Trauma and defeat? Actually is about destiny, saudade (unique portuguese word but its not nostalgy, saudade is something more profound), yes sadness, happiness, inner strugle and hope..
@@search4financialfreedom426 its about trauma and defeit bc its about fishman dying in the sea. Part of our culture
@@Notwoke90 No, its not only because of that.... Its about fate and destiny and strugle, and our soul, about the people, the sea, the land, joy and sadness, hope, saudade, feelings...life and death! Its way more complex than that.. And there are several types of Fado!..
Dulce Pontes, one of the most wonderful Portuguese voices in the world. This theme portrays the feeling of love of the Portuguese people for the sea and everything it represents in our history. Dulce was the singer that Ennio Morricone chose for many of his themes, more needless to say, about this unique voice with a fado flavor and some Arabic sounds (people that invaded the territory of the Iberian peninsula, where Spain and Portugal are today in the year 711). Wonderful Dulce Pontes! Thank you for this reaction that meant a lot to me.
Have you ever herd "Amor a Portugal" (the love to Portugal) ? From Dulce Pontes? It's ... amazing
I believe Enio has some songs with Dulce or was it David Lynch on his music projects? I saw something a few years ago
If you like Mariza and Dulce Pontes, react to Madredeus.
Teresa and madredeus were and are the best of all in Portugal in my opinion.
Insane voice! This is high high high level. Crazy voice control and breathing. Cheers from Portugal

Hi from Portugal. Glad you reacted to this song. She's a great Singer although I wish she received more recognition in her own country.
It's a matter of industry only... We all are her fans.
Let's make the industry deal with they're garbage and give us all the opportunity to have a real Diva!
She is valued in Portugal but she spent a load of time out of the country working with great professionals.
She's impressive when singing Fado. She's probably the most amazing Portuguese singer nowadays. I've seen her live twice and when you are seeing and listening to her... is an indescriptible feeling which makes you cry and laugh at the same time. In a simple word: UNBELIEVABLE.
I’m Mexican-American and became a fan of fado through Carminho years ago. I saw her live in Mexico in 2022 and going to see her in Los Angeles in 2023 ❤ I would still like to see Ana Moura and Sara Correia

Greetings from cape verd 🇨🇻
That bit ' nao vou ao mar ... cruel ' (I don't go to the cruel sea) sounds like an ocean wave breaking on the beach. This song is definitely all about the sea
Yes she makes sounds that invoke men harsh voices and waves crashing
Exactly. One of the more impactful things is that while she uses the ocean as a metaphor for her emotions, her voice is an instrument that represents the ocean perfectly, along with the actual instruments. It's impossible not to get goosebumps even after years of listening to this song repeatedly! I'm so grateful to see vocal coaches from abroad giving it recognition years after. It warms my heart! Thank you, Sam! ❤️
Dulce Pontes- Sim.
Portuguese pride! She is very underrated all over the world but for me she’s one of the best singers I’ve ever heard. She’s also very humble not a star looking lady. Dulce Pontes is absolutely amazing. Congrats from Portugal
Wow Dulce Pontes! You take me back so many years!
This concert is in Greece for sure for I recognize the pianist. Heriodion I believe under the Acropolis.
She has done a lot of songs with Ennio Morricone as well!
Fado is the music that shows your more deep feelings, make you feel naked from your emotions, it’s power and delicacy at the same time!!!
A Dulce Pontes é simplesmente......maravilhosa.....
I'm Portuguese, and, for me, Dulce has the best voice this country has ever had! 👏👏
This was the ending theme of that incredible movie Primal Fear, with Richard Gere and Edward Norton. I guess Richard Gere or someone else were mesmerised by the eeriness of the sound and thought it fit well with the story, at least that's what I heard.
Thank You (that was the title of the film) I heard this song years ago but forgot the film (nice film but I was blown away by the music) and ever since that moment i've been a fan of Dulce Pontes
When you hear fado, you have a powerful individual experience. At the same time you see everyone having the same experience and that gives you a collective experience.
You don't need to know portuguese language to feel fado, but with this knowledge you can understand why she is more aggressive in that part or more soft in another. For example in the chorus she always say the word cruel in a very intense way.
Best Portuguese singer... EVER!
I like her voice and the duet she has with Andrea Botcheli.
Porra Dulce Pontes... Coisa linda!
I think words are totally unnecessary and ineffective for such a performance! Truly breathtaking!
No they aren't. The real power of this song are the lyrics. The music, the voice, all the performance is poweful, but what puts this song on Another level is the lyrics. Só powerful, so poetic, that is a shame that if you are not portuguese, you can't really understand it. Even if you find a translation, i think it's Impossible to translate the real power and beauty of the lyrics in portuguese.
I’m Brazilian, my native language is portuguese, but I barely understand a word she sings . Even so I love it 🤷🏼♀️☺️

I am Portuguese and have listened to Dulce live but I am so impressed with your reaction. I really appreciate how you picked up on the precious subtleties from her singing and were able to explain how her skill empowers this song.
Dulce is a Queen. And you are so amazing.
Hello! You should listen to an album She has, named FOCUS with Ennio Morricone. It's a masterpiece. Ennio used to say She had the most beautiful colorata voice in the world.
I was looking for this comment. So it was Ennio she had a project with. I thought I've heard her with David Lynch but maybe I'm confused
One of my sorrows was not to be able to see ennio morricone concert in Lisbon on is goodbye tour. I'm not sure if it end up to be cancelled. Soon after he died. I knew it would be a one chance thing. Now... no more. Soon after Covid closed all shows and concerts for all performers. So when you have a chance just take it. Money is just money comes and goes. Watching good performers is a priviledge.
I'm Portuguese and i get goosebumps every time I hear this song 😊♥️🇵🇹
This is more fado inspired, but still draws a tear out of my Portuguese eyes... 😢
In the name of Portugal THANKS!
I`m speechless about your comment and analisis.
You made me a PROUD Portuguese man.

So nice to see a Portuguese artist reaction again. Not many around. As other have mentioned, Teresa Salgueiro would also be an excellent choice for future reactions.
If you say "Dools Pontsh" you will say her name in portuguese perfectly ;)

It's not the same place. Loreenna sang in Alhambra, Spain, And this is at Convento da Madre de Deus in Lisbon
It is not Spain indeed, but it is not Lisbon either. It's the Odeon of Herodes Atticus under the ancient rock of the Acropolis, Athens, this one: images.app.goo.gl/4HwVSgHQGvp2ZY5s8

Hi!
I'm very glad that you react to one of the greatest female singers of my country...
Dulce is really amazing and I'm very proud that she is Portuguese.
A very small country, but, with a great talent also!
Thank you for your video.

I heard her song in a movie years ago and loved it. I then bought her cd. Her voice is incredible!!!
So the translation of this song is "Song of the ocean" and I feel that she almost replicates a wave motion and the rhythm of the ocean (calm and sudden turbulence) with her performance, it's truly amazing! Thank you for listening to her performance :)

E o mar bramindo
Diz que eu fui roubar
A luz sem par
Do teu olhar tão lindo
Vem saber se o mar terá razão
Vem cá ver bailar meu coração
Se eu bailar no meu batel
Não vou ao mar cruel
E nem lhe digo aonde eu fui cantar
Sorrir, bailar, viver, sonhar contigo
Vem saber se o mar terá razão
Vem cá ver bailar meu coração

Portugal have amazing amazing artists. Presently Dulce Pontea is truly INCREDIBLE and an amazing representation of Portuguese music and soulful music
👏 Thank you for your reaction! This means alot to all portuguese people🇵🇹 I wish she had the deserved recognition as you just gave
As Portuguese I consider listen fado as a spiritual cleansing, a place beyond music! More than a artist singer , Dulce Pontes is an channel through Portuguese souls💋
Thank you for this reaction! I am Portuguese and I love Dulce and Marisa. We will always have the queen of Fado, Amalia Rodriquez, but these women are amazing. This titel is "song about the sea" Portugal is depending a lot on the ocean for fishing. The ocean gives and takes. Many fishermen died on the wild Atlantic ocean. It is a very emotional song, like every Fado song. The "hyper performance" ") is Fado and Portuguese people are very emotional people. It is no shame to cry or to express grieve, unlike Holland where I live. So what for Western people seems over performing, are true deep emotoins. Fado is al about that. Marisa Live in Lisboa :"Genta de minha terra" sings beautiful but gets extremely emotional playing that very important Fado song for her own audience in beautiful Lisboa. She has to get herself back and does it in a way you will get goose bumps all over your body.
Memorable! I attended this gig with my sister, as it took place in my hometown. Truly unforgettable. Her voice is so beautiful, emotional, powerful and out of this world.
Dulce Pontes is definitely a legend and one of the most talented Portuguese singers of all times. I love her voice. There’s this song called “Ondeia”, which is basically vocalizations from beginning to end, but the vocal dynamics are one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. I’ll share the link in a second. Totally worth watching, Sam. And great job with the videos. I love watching them. They are fun, entertaining, and educational.
“Ondeia” “as maos que trago” “lagrima
Dulce Pontes she has smooth and strong balance and voice. I hear pontes in Thessaloniki...
by the way this concert is in the Herodes Atticus in Athens in acropolis “Parthenon” and pianist is Stefanos Korkoles
Our Dulce Pontes is really unique! Noone else sings like her, in Portugal, at least. We have great fado singers, but she's just one of a kind. Unfortunately, she hardly appears on our tv screens or our radio stations. This was her biggest hit and it's like she vanished from Earth a few years latter. So sad that we don't get to hear her more... And I don't understand why. Mariza is one of our most cherished fado singers and we watch and hear her sing in a pretty regular basis. Don't know why it doesn't happen with Dulce...
It's not the same, but here are the translated lyrics for those who want it:
I went to dance in my boat
Beyond the cruel sea
And the sea roaring
Say I went to steal
The peerless light
Your look so beautiful
Come and find out if the sea is right
Come and see my heart dance
If I dance in my boat
I'm not going to the cruel sea
And I don't even tell you where I went to sing
Smile, dance, live, dream of you
Come and find out if the sea is right
Come and see my heart dance
If I dance in my boat
I'm not going to the cruel sea
And I don't even tell you where I went to sing
Smile, dance, live, dream of you
❤️❤️❤️❤️ I'm so proud of poets, musicians, composers and singers of my country! It's really an experience, like you said! Thanks, you can understand what I meant.
She is one of our best! This song was first sung by Amalia Rodrigues and then Dulce, can't say who wore it best. It represents us as a country, as people, as a culture. So very underrated, voices and melodies. Portugal's culture needs more viewing.
Thank You for doing this one!

Dulce Pontes is on another level!! I have seen her live, and it feels like her voice has some kind of effect in your emotions!!
This isn't pure Fado, but Dulce is a fantastic singer and artist... We are all very proud of having such an artist in our country
Why is this not pure fado? Because she is using more then the fado guitar while singing.
Dulce pontes is the most popular fado singer in the world lol
What u talkin about?
@@johng.8576 No this is not pure fado. And she is not the most popular fado singer. Amália Rodrigues was the all time fado queen. That is pure fado
@@johng.8576 its a purist thing. Dulce pontes is a perfect singer, but true Fado is about guitars and voice (preferably without a microphone). Thats the pure form of fado. But this is the best variation possible from it. Its so great!
She's a great singer, since the beginning of her career. I just love the way she sings from her soul. She mixes our Portuguese Fado with her own singular way of singing.

Damn... I'm Portuguese and this one still hits me every time... amazing!
I am SOOOO glad you love this! I loved in Lisbon (played in the Radio orchestra for 2 years...1971-2. ) Love the people, the food and the language.
Fado means "fate" and really expresses the soul of the people. One thing I love about "fadistas" (singers of fado) is...the Portuguese language. It has the use of diphthongs, which, as you know, are a combination of 2 vowels, sliding into each other. For example, the ão, which as a sort of "ng" sound on the end. The Fado really milks this by remaining exactly in the middle of the two different sounds, that, perhaps in another language might be frowned upon, vocally. Kind of a language "blue note".
Can you react to "O Pastor" by Madredeus?
Hello!! Portugal has great voices, especially female voices. And Fado has brought supreme voices like Dulce Pontes, Mariza, Ana Moura or Teresa Salgueiro from the Madre Deus. In Spain there are also surprising voices such as Nino Bravo, a male singer who died in the 70s, but left impressive performances. I hope that one day you can react to Nino and also to a Spanish singer named Pastora Soler with the song (Quédate conmigo) Stay With Me, that she sang in the Eurovision contest in 2012, the power of her voice is extreme ... Greetings! 😊
Hello Chesther, I thank you for praising our female voices but, I do not forgive you for not naming the best voice, Amália Rodrigues
Cumprimentos!! 😊
So happy to see you reacting to another Portuguese singer. I found you when you reacted to Mariza and have been watching your BTS analysis with interest. :) This song has its roots in Fado, but would probably not be considered true Fado, just as Dulce Pontes is not really considered a Fado singer. She has a vein of performance that traditional fado doesn't have. This song is very emotional and heartbreaking, and so her voice is at times drawing you in, at times a guitar (see her pluck the air with her fingers) and at time almost a wail. It was so nice to see you so drawn in, true manifestation that good music transcends all languages, races and barriers.
Heart & Soul singing.. what else? thats Dulce Pontes^^
It is a shame that she has more love and recognition outside of Portugal than in her own country...
WTF are you talking about? She is a local legend and I can think of nobody in Portugal that does not know or love her...
