Hard to believe it's 10 years already since the analog shutdown of The Weather Channel. The end of 2024 will also mark the 20th anniversary of the shutdown of the WeatherSTAR 3000 (III) as well. That was the first legacy STAR model in TWC's history that was retired.
The 4000's software was lost after the analog shutdown? I did not realize that. Hard to believe as well that it's been so long since we lost the analog STARs. You called TWC homogenized now, and I couldn't agree more.
I’m late responding to this-but if you get a chance to check out the 4000’s manual (check the links at the bottom of the 4000 TWC Archive article), notice how the software storage depended on a battery that would run out after four hours.. unfortunately that translates to total software loss when the feed shut off
