Another great video that helped me understand how to fix my Range Rover Sport. Keep up the good work!
Simon, you guys are brilliant and have saved me a fortune! I’ve got a 2010 L320 RR Sport (106K miles) with the same engine as your D4. Just like you, it started going into Limp-Home on cold mornings and/or going up a hill. Then it started doing it on the motorway too. My iCarsoft 930 tool suggested a Mass Air Flow sensor and like you, B was filthy and A was spotless. I cleaned B as best as I could, but it wasn’t, as clean as A.
The car still threw itself into Limp-Home on Hills, cold mornings or on Motorways. My iCarsoft was suggesting the dreaded 100060 fault which usually means a £2,000 fix of replacing both plastic inlet manifolds.
However, I wasn’t convinced because I could delete the error on the move and the car would happily drive a while before the fault occurred again.
Inspired by your video and a couple of others using a smoke box, I decided to see if I could find a crack in the manifolds. I don’t have a smoke box. I used to smoke, but now use a Vape. I undid the pipe from the intercooler, then found a very small funnel, (the sort you fill a lawn mower sump with oil) and wrapped some masking tape round it until it was the same diameter as the inside of the rubber pipe from the Intercooler to the Right-angle bend plastic peice that goes into the ‘Y’ junction, into each plastic inlet manifold.
I then blew Vape smoke into the funnel and instantly found that the Right-angle plastic piece was not properly attached to the ‘Y’ junction Throttle body.
I unscrewed an 8mm headed bolt behind the fan and the clip that joins the 2 plastic pieces, reattached them and the problem is solved……….Absolutely FOC (apart from my Vape Liquid!!).
IIRC, I did see a similar problem highlighted by Christian Muth on one of his and Vera’s “Its LR Time” videos and before anybody involves themselves in any expensive garage repair, it is worth investigating a problem yourself first.
Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing this - we love LR time !
I’ve just purchased a 10 year old Disco 4 3.0 V6 and had this exact same issue. I don’t have the IID tool but after watching the video, I’ve cleaned both and will see what happens. Great videos, easy to follow and without videos like this, I don’t think I would have attempted it. MAFS cleaner was only $28.
Welcome to our channel Paul and let us know how it goes !
This video saved me over a $1000 dollars (AUD)
I had a local mechanic do the scan and got a P00100 and a P00AA fault. Did some research, found this vid.
Removed and cleaned both the MAF's and switched them over got the same engine warning.
Went to British Motor Imports in Vineyard near Sydney, they charged me $150 for a new unit, plugged it in problem solved. Thank you!!
Local Euro motor works quoted $1200 to switch out a $150 part.
Brilliant - glad it helped !
Thank you so very much for your counsel.
The challenge has been that the restricted performance indication has been coming up and clearing when the vehicle is left off for a while. The fuel consumption has also been on the higher side. When I check the MAF on two occasions I have noticed oil in the air duct and even on the air cleaner.
The oil consumption from the engine has not been very bad even though I have had to top up on two occasions.
I was therefore wondering whether the bad MAF could lead to poor fuel consumption which is possible as stated in the write ups but the link to the oil in the air duct is what has been puzzling. The smoke discharge from the exhaust has been normal. At some point I was wondering whether the Turbo could be defective but the power and performance when the restricted Performance alarm is not on is very normal and excellent performance in terms of the power from the engine.
I thank you for any added advice on this challenge.
Best regards.
Another great video Simon and Ian. Love the relaxed style. Got the same fault which only started after I cleaned it with contact cleanner after reading a lot of blah blah on disco 3. B was dirty and a was clean. Going to try your swop idea and then see what happens. Those GAP IID tools should come free with every new LR and it be the law to leave them for the next owner. Oh yes.
I feel your pain - this happened to me just as was going on holiday....
Thank you for a wonderful channel.
hi is it possible you can show us the crossover pipe and how to take it off many thanks great vid lads
Beautiful people with a wonderful channel
Very helpful guys. Any video for pdf faults for Discovery 4 please
excellent video ,just as it should be
Great video. I cleaned both. On IID Tool is shown air mass A with 0,2g/s and on stage B 200g/s is that ok? Or it should display both sides same amount? Thx Magdy
Hi bought a 2010 from an auction and it went into restricted performance after pushing on the gas a little harder and I was low on coolant . engine light was on when I bought it. The car seized up while driving and smoking from exhaust and underneath hood and leaked a little oil and wouldn’t start anymore and made a winding nose from motor when cranking with push to start button . Battery totally died and had blue corrosion on it and stopped going into gear so I couldn’t even tow it really cause the wheels wouldn’t move . It was just sliding.
Hi there, did you find out what the cause was? Sounds extremely catastrophic.
The operations you do with the IID tool are they limited to just that piece of equipment or can you do the same stuff on other diagnostic units?
There are other pieces of equipment that can do this ...but typically they are more expensive.... £5000 upwards. Examples are Autologic / Pathfinder and SDD
Hello sir. I have a jaguar x351 3L diesel 2012. could you please tell me the best Diagnostic tool to give me a good set of Electonic Help in diagnoseing and fixing problems that may accure. Thank you Dean New Zealand
As many of LR users, i'm going crazy due to failure bothering me for more than 4 months now. So to keep it short i started with nice restricted performance, including some oil inside my air filter and the following codes: P006A-00 (historic) / P00BD-07 (intermittent) / P1247-00 (historic) / P0235-94 (intermittent).
Based on such error list my standard garage advice me for the reconditioning of both turbo's, including actuators, seal kit for both, EGR's valve original new, and many exhaust seals related to these 2.
Nevertheless after the change i still see some oil in my freshly new installed air filter, and i still get the P1247 -00 boost pressure low error. But from time to time and in some very awkward conditions, which i will try to describe:
- ALWAYS after i drive some hours / engine is hot / and after one immediate restart
- feeling of low power @ low revs
- starting small jerk just before gear shift - maybe in some incline start
- after clear feeling of car jerk 3-4 times, where some power and loss of power is strongly felt the restricted performance is there
- AFTER 10 mins shut of the car starts without any fault
I can also describe that by hard pull or higher speeds / revs such failure is not happening.
The inlet manifold is plastic.
When it cracks you get restricted performance when accelerating.
But often the fault codes lead you to think it could be MAF related.
Changed MAF and now all good.... so think it was the MAF
random thoughts wonder if this is my issue. The codes are giving me the run around.
This error will only appear after starting the engine and driving if it's the manifold or a leak in the intake system . If the error appears with the ignition on and the engine has not been started then it's the sensor.
@@7-7-724 My car had no problems unless on hard acceleration for over a year.
Which was why JLR replaced mine 6 months outside warranty for free.
@@bigjml ive got this issue restricted mode Red but no engine managment light. My brake pad lights come on today and had a squeal when slightly turn right slightly. I wonder if this can kick in restricted power for safety. Had yellow light for 2 weeks restricted performance and someone mentioned fuel filter. thought this was done on service but been told today that is extra cost pffff so much for Halfords. That is major service as well. Had MOT Nov last year and done very little mileage since and was no advisory Halfords again. I can rev the engine from start over 2000 and is okay. Any idea if restricted performance Red can be because of brake pads? Hoping not turbo relate actuator etc as body off. I don't ever drive it hard so I have read on disco site can be oil in solenoid and shaft :) needs cleaning all good. Booked in monday diagnostics but took info paste here. If it was Turbo or inlet would my engine management light be on. MIne is SDV6 disco 4 2013
He found fault codes P006A-00, P1247-00, P00BD-07 and P0235-94.
The result was a clean of the shaft on the solenoid valve. Thumbs Up
Has this happened to anyone else and did it reoccur - if so was it a replacement solenoid.
I just had a “restricted performance” code pop up on my 2012 Land Rover Range Rover HSE. It’s only at about 100,000 miles. My warranty is out so I hope I’m not up shit creek. I haven’t noticed any issues leading up to this.
Hi - get the fault codes read and see what it says..let us know
My 2011 RR Sport 3.0 TDV6 goes into limp mode after 120 km/h when I am flooring it hard. I had hoped its those guys that failed but alas not. Some valve on the smaller turbo is gone - dont know exactly how its called but you can reach it from underneath the car.... Can you please let me know how is it called or whats the part number? The gentlemen from the shop did not help with that..
Hi - i think this is the turbo actuator - these can get stuck if not used much - you can lubricate them and work them loose.
powerfulukltd you are amazing! Thank you.
Restricted Performance issue on 2010 RRS HSE TDV6 A. Mileage 90K
We swapped over the AFM's as well as replaced each one in turn with a spare part. It showed the A circuit is the faulty one, with really high figures showing after revs. When idle both sensors show the same.
So it's NOT the AFM, but something else. The fault codes are below....
PLEASE HELP. (It just had a costly service before Christmas!)
The AA Patrol found the following fault code/s:System : Engine control - 7M9 / Diesel EDC 17CP11.2 Status :P006A - Mass or volume air flow circuit. Error Message : Malfunction. Fault pending. Status :P00BD - Air-mass meter or air-flow sensor A. Error Message : Mechanical fault. Fault pending. Status :P1247 - Boost pressure control low pressure level. Error Message : Malfunction. Error sporadic. Status :P0235 - Turbocharger boost-press. sensor A. Error Message : Improper operation. Error sporadic. Status :P010C - Mass or volume air flow circuit. Error Message : Malfunction. Fault pending. Status :P0102 - Mass or volume air flow circuit. Error Message : Malfunction. Fault pending. Status :P00AA - Intake-air temperature sensor 1. Error Message : Voltage above threshold. Error sporadic.Clear faults and run up with live readings. Sounds like choking or leaking at boost pipe. Engine Oil Level Ok. Coolant Level Ok. Advised check on turbo pipes for leaks or collapse and also for EGR sticking. Customer going to contact garage to see if repair feasible.
This sounds like a leaking pipe issue I would agree
You can do a smoke test to check for leaking manifold / pipes.

What does it mean when there are traces of oil in the ducts leading from the MAF sensors. Could this have anything to do with the Restricted Performance on the Discovery 4 Land Rover?
I guess in theory there should be no oil around the MAF as this is an air intake only. There is a lot of oil in the pipes after the turbo normally but no in the MAF - I would remove and clean with some brake cleaner.
Hi there what’s the IID tool you are using and what’s the app for the iPhone please
And will this work with the 2014 RR sport SDV6?
Yes it will work with your car and i have the blue tooth version of the IID tool from GAP Diagnostics... the app is on the app store.
powerfulukltd great thanks for your help and advice is it around the 400 mark?
@@simongreenwood4812 Yes thats the one. You can also use it to modify your car... suspension height etc etc
Hi, what program are you using for Scan?
Hi we are using IID tool from GAP Diagnostics
Hi I have changed th air flow sensor B , red light went off, but a week later it is back on , loss of power, so checked rubber in place ok , light off all ok, but then 3 days later light on again loss of power. Any ideas ? For a range rover sport HSE LS 2013. Thanks
Sounds a mystery - i think you need to get the fault codes read and see what the stored fault codes are.

Hi I have same problem on a 10 plate sport iv changed the air mass but it is back in limp mood with same code is it possible that the 2 mass filters are gone
Hi - it would be bad luck for both to go... did you swap them over... you may have changed the wrong one ?
@@L663 swapped them over still says same but in code thing tomorrow and yes would be my luck 2 if them
Have now changed the 2 of them a d the problem is still there limp mood
Have now found out the air intake thing is cracked so ill do that now
@@richardprice7672 was that the cause then? I've heard they have a habit of splitting. Hopfully you sorted it out 👍
Bought a MAF sensor on the Bay, came without any part numbers stamped , does that mean its rubbish
could be OK - although most reputable parts have some numbers on them !
I have the same problem been looking on eBay but not sure what one to get could you put a link up please if you sell them let me know thanks
Hi - i dont sell these items - i purchased a genuine item but it was not cheap !
powerfulukltd I was looking at them but not sure it’s the right one I think it was about a grand plus license
Sorry i thought you were looking for the MAF ? you should just be able to change the MAF and all faults will clear. You dont need the diagnostics as such.
powerfulukltd all I want to do is really check for any error codes so when I go to the garage I know what to say to them I have one for my siggy but this is my first disco4 still trying to find out a lot thanks for geting back to me love your videos very helpful keep up the great work :)
I like you guys and I like all what you are doing👍, but you are not talking about the FL2 anymore, they still do exist you know 👀🙂, keep doing the nice work you are doing but remember us from time to time 👋
Had my fuel filter harness replaced, has removed the restricted performance error.
Thanks for sharing - this could help others !
You should wait after spraying the sensor to dry completely.
For those of you who think this is a quick and easy job like I did.
Oh boy. Just spent an hour and a half with the brother in law trying to get this new hose fitted.
After all of the faffing, we realised the existing was in perfect condition.
Now to find out the source of the reduced engine performance error.
do you guys sell the gap IID tool?
Not yet - but maybe in the future
They can't even get its name right.
Hi tell me what tools used to diagnose jlr
It is the GAP Diagnostics IID tool
Went to use the D4 last night to be
Greeted with Restricted Performance warning with Engine Management light and red triangle
So ran the Codes DTC P010D MAF.
Two more Codes
P0674 and P0675
Tried cleaning with correct MAF Spray and fitted a new Air Filter still not working also had two more codes for cylinder 4 and 5 Glow Plug open Circuit.
So I bought a new Sensor cleared the Codes and all is fixed 👍 my question is the Glow Plugs would they be problematic with the MAF on its way out.
There are no DTC at all now
Ps Love watching your Videos they are Really Helpful Cheers
Thanks in Advance.

Well that was a greeting you did not need at this time of year.. but glad its going - the glow plugs should only be an issue when cold and should not restrict performance.
@@L663 Many Thanks for the Reply, Yes not the Best Time for Problems but it happens.
I will scan for codes after another cold morning start up thank you again keep the Videos coming you do a first class job.

range rover sport supercharged code p007d charge air cooler temperature sensor fault
yes there is a good chance this is caused by the temo sensor that is part of the MAF sensor - try swapping them around the plug with 4 wires on is the one that "reads" air temp but both sensors have the temp sensor so you may be lucky and get away with just swapping them over.
@@L663 good vid, tried the cleaner on both with no luck but remember B was pretty dirty, and the fault reading defo said maf n sth bout temp. At the garage they said its 'probably' the Manifold inlet and want to replace it for 1k. I'd better try to swap them over or fitting new one first to see what happens :) Will let ya know
@@pan3x how did you get on??
@@mandhirsidhu cracked Manifold inlet. had to fix it at the garage
