This was my first Mario game. I always wanted to play this mode and loved it to death. I wish that this type of mode returned in any further titles. VS is always better and less frustrating than Co-op. Happy 10th anniversary New Super Mario Bros! (DS)
Why can't this mode ever make a reappearance in any new mario games? This was the most fun I ever had with mario multiplayer! Imagine this crossed with Mario Battle Royal
Glad I have my dsi I will buy the game from eBay if I have the funds to buy it. I play Lep’s world but it’s also a good game but not at the level of Mario. The good thing about it is the double jump which is something that Mario and Luigi never have and other unique abilities. I had a copy of new super Mario bros ds but 13 year old me destroyed it.
No Mario game can substitute the awesomeness of nsmb. Great gameplay with 2 worlds that were actually hard to get, minigames that were actually fun and a great multiplayer element.

Remember playing a 10 star game in the Castle map versus with my friend for 45 minutes 10 years ago. Because of the closing ceilings, we would get stuck in one hole and jump on eachother, killing all the stars we had. Good times man

When my brother had a mega mushroom i had a mini mushroom on the pipe level when he used his mega mushroom i used my mini mushroom to get on top of the pipes and he wouldnt be able to get me...
The most satisfying thing on the snow level was ground pounding them above those stacks of single stone blocks and watching them belly flop into one of the gaps
I miss playing this game sooooo much! Especially this mode with someone! I had great time and greater laughs while playing Mario vs Luigi and I was always Luigi!
I forgot about this completely. My friend and I would have sleepovers and it would be way past our bedtimes, so we played this under the covers until like 12:30-1am (which was considered pretty late as a child). This game and Nintendogs :)
My sister and I played this all the time but we never actually played it the way it was intended. Instead of killing each other we would just mess around in the levels and see all sorts of things we could do

I used to win on my brother and tease him a lot in game by firing at him, but eventually he would be recognized for his failure and then get the mushroom that embiggens him, a wreck happens after but I am smart so I developed a trick to wall jump inside one of the death holes xD and he'd keep screaming get ouuuuttt!, finally when he shrinks down to normal size, he'd try and step on me since he couldn't do it while a giant xD and I'd fall to my death.. Sometimes.

The level guy made a mistake with the tiles at 15:44, look under the right floating coin, there's 2 tiles that are intended for a ledge are just on the floor, just look at the shape! This error is also in the little room at 15:27 with the bomb.

One thing I think was interesting is that in this mode, Big Mushroom beats Star. In Mario Kart Wii, however, Star beats Big Mushroom.

I always wondered why this game didn't have a Co-Op mode, there was nothing stopping them from implementing it.
