    You must trust your hubby completely! Your fingers looked so unprotected as he was hammering nails into the boards for the stud wall. What a team!!!!

    Nice job guys! You accomplished a lot in one day. I'm also a fan of the Ryobi cordless tools, but didn't know they made a dust buster. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

    Btw: your shower room? I'm jealous!!! Its gorgeous for off-grid!! As much as you love all your outdoor, rugged, living and sports I can tell you're still a girly at heart! How? You had decorations in the window sill BEFORE the room was done. I love it!! And you have a great week, too, Jen

    Awesome! I just love your construction videos. You two do a great job. Yes, I also have battery power tools....thank you NASA! Couldn't survive without them. I'm very impressed with your sweating pipe....not many do that anymore. Ya'll got something to be proud of. Thanks Jen and hubby for your time, very entertaining.

    Hi Jennifer. As always I enjoyed your video. The only concern I have is with putting the steel wool against the copper pipe. Have you considered galvanic corrosion? I might have wrapped the pipe with a bit of duct tape to prevent any reaction between dissimilar metals. The steel wool is a good idea to keep mice out. They'll chew through foam and wood.

      Stainless steel wool would also be an option.

    Nice job Jen, There is a type of metal wool that may last longer and not cause your copper pipe to corrode from the electrolytic or galvanic action between the steel and the copper. Bronze wool is much less corrosive when in contact with the pipe you are using. I once lived in a steel Quonset house up in Alaska. The house was an old ammunition bunker. I had to dig a tunnel beside the house ( underground house) to get to a copper pipe that had burst. Turns out that the pipe had come in contact with the steel structure and where it touched, it corroded. I like the way you do things. NIce looking project. Smiling, George.

      Good idea. I was thinking on doing the same around a propane line but i will cover the line prior to steel wool.
      Even though copper is more noble than steel, there could be alloys in the metal that are weaker than the steel.

    We don't see your husband in videos very often. Is he always at the cabin with you when you make your videos? I always just see you and think your so brave to be out there by yourself. I would never do that. Lol. I love that vinyl floor
    Makes me want it in my kitchen. Haha. Take care.

    Ms. Yam, FYI; there are paint primers that have a vapor barrier property which may be a good idea for this project.

    We compost also. Do you prefer the peat moss over the pine or dust? Do you do humanure or bury the buckets?

    Great video. Thx. My cabin in WNY has no water electric or plumbing. But it has an outhouse. The cabin is way to small to have a shower indoors so my thought is to do exactly what you're doing there. What type of heating will you have? My plan is to live in it year round.

    Looking good. Is that the elusive Mr. Yam helping you with the install? Are you going to have a way to heat the water in winter other than the black barrel?

  • @DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors
    @DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors 5 років тому

    Great job Jen! It's coming along nicely... will you be draining the plumbing during the winter months? I use heat trace when needed which uses just 7 watts per foot and is automatic. A temporary water holding tank inside the shower house and a tiny wood burner with a copper tubing heat reclaim on the stovepipe would work great in there for hot water! Take care. 👍👍

    Do you live full time all year? We do and love it. Are you separating your pee from the other? As we did , we learned it makes a really big difference in smell.
    We have been living off grid full time for 10 years now. We dug a well couples years back and have a hot water on demand. Wouldn't live any other way. We live old school much as possible.😊

    • @Off-gridchic
      @Off-gridchic 5 років тому

      Also for your pee paper (toilet paper) should be separate as it will to much for the composting.

    Are you using peat moss for your toilet? I sure hope that it's not the unsustainable kind. Peat moss is incredibly unsustainable ecologically.
