Prior removing the seal I recommend cleaning the area and then use fine emery cloth sandpaper on the axle shaft and make a smooth surface that way you wont compromise the new seal
Thanks for your comment! Absolutely agreed. We've done several transmission rebuilds. I also have used a thin tape over the groove to help protect the seals.
Dear Sir what were the axle seal numbers an the other shaft seal numbers an where did you get them also the trans housing is worn away on the rite side can I split the housing with out removing the in sides an slip another housing on it RayStein

Thank you for your quick response I have 1975 c120 special it had an hh 120 Tec on it but it went bad it now has a deep pan kohler s14 out of a ariens that was recently rebuilt it runs very well however I discovered an axle seal leak on the rite side and the hub ground away the housing into the Torrington bearing it has 1and a eight axles on her I believe she has an 8 pinion so can I just tip the housing over an slide it apart an slide a newer rite side back on then install new seals but I'm getting a replacement rear this weekend anyway sorry I'm not computer friendly. Im barely good at texting Ray Stein
