    hi Andrew - thanks for another excellent tutorial video! Please note however, that your audio level is very low - Carlo

      Hey Carlo! I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😁 I am indeed aware of the problem in some of my earlier videos, and hopefully I've now fixed that in my newer uploads 😊

    Great videos. Good idea keeping them short too. I've been watching all your earlier videos, they are great quality, very easy to follow and informative. Best set of FreeCAD Tutorials I've seen. I'm going to pop off and sort some bits out I need to do then watch Part 2 :-)

      Hey Kelvin! Glad you're still enjoying the videos! If I think a video will be to long and it's worth creating a second one, then I'll split them into series for ease of viewing! :)

      @@AndrewCAD I think you'll find that people are more likely to watch videos around the ten minute mark than sit for 20 minutes to half an hour. It can be tricky sometimes getting everything in a single video so having a break is a great solution. 10 minutes are pretty easy to fit in to a busy day and when you're looking to find how to do something you want to get to a solution quickly and not have to wade through 30 minutes of waffle that is often found on some 'Tutorials'
      I think you've hit an excellent balance Andrew

      @@kelvink8955 Yeah that's definitely something I want to do, just get straight to the point give you helpful information, while also creating things that I enjoy/think would be awesome to create! So I'll keep an eye on the length of my future videos and make the 10 minutes as informative as possible :)

    When I go to use my pocket tool, it does not allow me to with an error saying. "Cannot use this command as there is no solid to subtract from"

    Hi Andrew
    I am learning Freecad and need to know how to grab midpoint of a line when in Part Design. Would you help me and let me know?

    • @AndrewCAD
      @AndrewCAD  4 роки тому

      Hey Cyrus!
      Do you mean creating a point in the centre of a line while editing a sketch?

    • @cyruskhosravi7351
      @cyruskhosravi7351 4 роки тому

      not just creating a point, using the midpoint for another sketch like a line or any thing

    • @AndrewCAD
      @AndrewCAD  4 роки тому

      @@cyruskhosravi7351 Ok, hopefully this will be easy to understand over a message 😅
      For test purposes we'll create a new document and create a sketch on the XY plane.
      Draw a single line from centre point along the horizontal axis. Make it about 30mm in length.
      Close the sketch.
      Make sure the sketch is highlighted in the tree to the left, and click the 'create new datum plane' icon...this will bring up a dialog on the left. The top box should say 'selecting' with our sketch selected. Click on the one below which should be 'reference 2' and click on the sketch line. This should make the datum plane centre on the line. Click ok to confirm the datum position.
      And hopefully that's what you're looking for! You'll now be able to use the datum plane as a sketch plane, and sketch geometry on the centre point of your line 😁

      @@AndrewCAD thanks a lot Andrew! Not yet! let me ask it in another way! how do you use the tools in the DRAFT section that that are used for grabbing certain points of lines, circles, etc. (like midpoint, quarter of a circle, etc)

    • @AndrewCAD
      @AndrewCAD  4 роки тому

      @@cyruskhosravi7351 In the draft workbench, over to the right of the tool ribbon, within a drop down there should be some icons (turquoise/light blue in colour). They should all be highlighted which means they're currently active...what you want to do, is turn them all off (apart from the pad lock symbol...also known as 'toggle snap' or 'toggle' or if you're using 0.19 it will be called 'snap lock') and then select the snap youd like...for example finding the midpoint of a line, you'd have both the lock icon and the 'snap midpoint' icon selected...when you then draw a line within the draft workbench, you should be able to snap to the midpoint of other lines...for further reading, check out this wiki page, which might make it a little easier 😊 wiki.freecadweb.org/Draft_Snap_Midpoint

    Nice video. I wonder why you didn't use the polar pattern function?

    • @AndrewCAD
      @AndrewCAD  4 роки тому

      Is this for when I created the sketch for the base? I did wonder if there was a polar pattern for sketching?

    • @peterjansen4894
      @peterjansen4894 4 роки тому

      @@AndrewCAD There is indeed none for sketching. But you could have sketched a 6th of the features and then use a polar pattern for the body (after padding). Just curious why you didn't.

    • @AndrewCAD
      @AndrewCAD  4 роки тому

      @@peterjansen4894 I think I know what you mean - when you do a polar pattern you click the 'Add feature' and add multiple features, which saves you from doing lots of individual patterns?...if that's what you mean I did try that, but unfortunately it's not working for me, I might be doing it wrong though 😅
