- NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE PARISH #36: ELSHAM
Elsham, with its population of around 400 people, is situated 4 miles north of Brigg, 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the M180 and 1 mile west of the A15 in North Lincolnshire
This is a place which is dominated by its history with the Royal Air Force. The RAF references are everywhere you look. As such, to the village’s northeast, is the former RAF Elsham Wolds
RAF Elsham Wolds was the most important airbase in the area. Number 103 and number 576 squadrons were stationed at it. Some of its buildings, including a J type hangar, still exist
There’s more to Elsham than the RAF base though. For a start, there’s Elsham Hall which during the war was requisitioned as an Antiaircraft HQ. It was inherited by Captain Jeremy Elwes after WWII
It’s since been turned it into a successful tourism and wedding venue. Elsham used to have a railway station as well - but the site of it is NOT Elsham parish. You’ll have to wait for Wrawby for that one
Wrawby’s boundaries also partly cover Elsham Golf Club although the main clubhouse is just within Elsham. It’s also got a nature reserve and quite a few old buildings which are of interest
The village is also the birthplace of the agricultural engineer Richard Hornsby, astronomer Wallace L. W. Sargent, and George Green, a recipient of the Medal of Honor in the American Civil War
Elsham was voted the best kept small village in 2017. Let’s have a look and see why!

Just watched as we went to Elsham Hall today, you didn't miss much as the hall is only glimpsed at a distance when you do the parkland walk. The village is lovely, you absolutely nailed it with this video and the floral telephone box is looking just as good this year :)
I love anything connected with the R.A.F.
That village right up my street.
Plus it is beautiful village.
You should enjoy the next North Lincs episode too then - Goxhill is pretty much Elsham Mk. II
There is now a Bus but it only runs Monday to Friday from Brigg to Barton upon Humber. It is run by North Lincolnshire Council.
glad I found this informative channel. I do a lot of walking on the wolds and have been to many of these villages.
Welcome aboard!
