Pretty sure Bobby plays with the rounded side of the pic. I love the guy. Outside genius playing and improvisation approaches he is a wealth of experience knowledge of the instrument and the industry-and he’s such a fun loving down to earth person. Been a Bobby fan for about 15 yrs. Buy his albums and instructional dvd, and watch eveything you can find from him on the interweeble.
@@OnlineBassCourses Never to late, sure. I have 62 to 120 :) The learning goes relatively well, I started from zero and the biggest challenge is the notes reading, but there is a progressive improvement in it. I have a good teacher here (in Budapest, Hungary), one lesson a week with a huge homework that takes at least an hour a day to complete. Thank you once again and I keep following your videos.
Great lesson. Bobby use the same pick but he picking with the side. This technique gives a punchy tone especially close to the bridge. :) good video! Thanks!
Great lesson. I've been getting into Bobby Vega and this really helped break down his technique. I'd love to hear a bit more about his ghost notes and string skipping that he does to get the high hat type rythym. That's the bit I struggle with the most as it's really unique to him and Cody Write.
Thanks Ari. Yes, those are very important techniques. Whilst not quite the same, this video might help: ua-cam.com/video/5X4wwDqrg7g/v-deo.html. No explanation here but it's slowed down at the beginning: ua-cam.com/video/C1G4kDhyquo/v-deo.html
Thanks, this was useful. Would you say the type of bass and the type of strings matter when it comes to using a pick? I play a precision bass with flatwound strings, so I have more of a J.J. sound, but I want to start using a pick.
Thanks. That’s exactly the same combo Carole Kaye used with a plectrum. I would say if it sounds good, feels good, and you want to play like that it doesn’t matter at all: go for it!
Been playing bass for 30 years now (not famous lol) Strumming one string on the bass like an acoustic guitar around a campfire, really helps shitty drummers at jam night down the pub. Metronome, click track
with all due respect ... straight 16 note picking is not what Mr Vega does ... is in the string skipping and notes muting and note displacement what makes him so varied and musical.

All your lessons are awesome but this one takes the cake. You are a good man.
Glad you like it - thanks for watching!
Still getting a lot from this lesson 4 years later
thanks for teaching us this stuff. you’re a good man Dan.
Michael. Thank you very much for watching! Let me know if you have any questions.

Dan that sound off your Jazz bass is amazing!
Thanks! 1975 Fender Jazz with Elites Players 45-105.
Thank you, those lessons are great help and inspiration for me. I started learning bass a few months ago, when I turned 58.
How are getting on with it? That's amazing! Never too old to start bass. With some consistent practice, you can get pretty good...

Thanks very much! That's right, he does pick with the side...
Very useful information man thank you so much!
Thanks for the comment!
Hi Dan, great job! Thank you.
Greets from Italy. Greg
Thanks Greg! Hope you're doing well.
Great video, sir! Lovely job!
Thanks, Mike!
by the way: Bobby is playing with one of the round sides of the pick, and he gives it about only 2-3mm to look out between his fingers…
Yes, I did know that but didn’t mention it in the video! Thanks for the comment.

If you're doing it right, you can't hear the difference between down strokes and up strokes
🔥🔥🔥
Good tone bro
Thank you.
Many bass players are self taught in using pick. Since some bassists already tried playing guitar.
Tried or achieved it.
Word

Obviously but you gotta be able to play the entire 16th note pulse before you can start dropping/displacing beats etc.
And he plays with the other end of the pick
"You have to hit it either on the down or up."
What is option C missing entirely?
You've lost me Eric!
@@OnlineBassCourses It was a observation of a comment you made. It just sounds funny nothing more... Have a prosperous day.
If you knew how many things I said that were completely nonsense...! Happens more than I'd like to admit 🤣 have a great day. 👍
69th like yesh!!!!
