I completely agree. Why not. I have had requests for menudo from friends and I don’t like siting over the stove for hours and prep of the tripe etc. I have taken two large cans (the big big cans) of Juanita’s Menudo and doctored it up and served and no one knew any different. They were impressed and loved it. 🤣. Plus you are right, I’m single and being able to make enough for just two servings is nice.
Sauteed half a minced onion, added one can of menudito, then added a can of chickpeas,1/2 cup organic long grain brown rice, 1 quart water , 1/4 Cup tomato paste, 1 TBS of Mexican mole, smoked paprika, granulated garlic and tad more cumin. Wowsers! It's a treat really and triggers ancient memories of my youth.
Ha! I saw this, and had to check it out. We recently started using the cans, for back up. My home made menudo usually had homemade chile Colorado, and my secret ingredient …chicken with bone. I felt it gave the broth an even richer taste, a long with the pata. I also shred the chicken and add it to the soup. People have always turned their noses up to my homemade Menudo. When they tried it, they loved it! I once read, that some regions in Mexico, would use several types of meat in their Menudo. Now, I usually have left over chicken leg or thigh around. Or now, I keep 1 leg and 1 thigh, frozen in freezer. It’s ready to add to the canned, along with similar add ons, like yours. Great minds, think a like!
That looks great. I love to eat Menudo but live alone and don't want to go to the trouble to make a big pot so I haven't made it in years! I'm trying this out tomorrow! I think I'll have to add a small can of hominy though. Thanks. On my way to the store now!
I get the Juanita's menudo all the time and I always hate having to dig out the bottom of the can... I found that sitting it on the kitchen counter in the sunlight for a few minutes and then shaking the daylights out of it helps to get it out completely. I also add a bay leaf/garlic/onion to mine as well and some chipotle powder, but I also do add more hominy since I love it so much!!!
What works for me I clean the top and bottom with a little dish soap and hot water straight out of the faucet for about thirty seconds or more shake the can and open it comes out liquid and all of the juice come out
I put the can on the low burner on the lowest setting, flip it every 10 seconds top to bottom. When it sounds like it’s all turned to liquid when you shake it, it’s ready to open. Don’t put it on the burner, go do something else and forget about it or you will be trying to clean the red stain off of everything in your kitchen.
@@BrooklynnTae32 ... It's really an acquired taste due to the stomach (honeycombed) tripe ingredient. I love the flavor, but still can't eat much of the tripe. Slimy and sometimes tough to chew. The closest I can explain of the flavor is like a beef stew with a dry chili (not hot at all) base. The hominy is a processed corn product (maize) which has a very mild corn flavor. I much prefer posole, which has about the same ingredients as in menudo, but instead has small chunks of pork shoulder instead of the tripe. I would start with a dish of posole first before you go directly to menudo.
My mother would add the extra hominy and the spices. On holidays she would cook and add the pata and tell us "this is as close to homemade your going to get". It was delicious
Love Juanita's canned menudo. Usually do diced onion with fresh cilantro and seeded/diced serrano or jalapeno with lime juice as a fresh salsa garnish. That and warm buttered corn tortillas and I am good to go. For breakfast I'll poach a couple eggs in the broth with the lid on after turning off the heat. Juanita's canned pozole is really good as well.
Thank you so much for this. I am not Mexican but discovered that the menudo is perfect for the chilly season. Good thing there is a Mexican resto nearby that serves even on weekdays. But this means I can have menudo without leaving the house. I have only beef cubes but will not put it next time. Makes it salty for me.
I love Menudo! Grew up with my neighbors since the sandbox days. I use to make tamales with the fam growing up. Love mexican food in general and I'm Coreana 😂🫰🏼
I do the same! A small local restaurant here in AZ serves it on weekends with a small container of the spice mix plus a baggie with fresh cilantro and chopped onions plus some small lime halves and a toasted bollilo. It's pricey at $10 a quart so sometimes I just buy the Juanita brand and add my own seasoning. They are very similar in flavor and I don't get the random bone sometimes found in the restaurant version. Great video ☺️
Can of spicy menudo and can without hominy mixed. I like the meat more. Top with a pre mixed menudo spice pack. (Oregano, dried onions, oregano and dried chillies). Whole lot of lemon squeezing to top. Yum!
When i was growing up and still today, menudo has always been the cure for whatever problems you have and whatever ails you!!! And it absolutely brings families together and also is the only thing to cure a hangover. I’ve eaten it my entire life. Im about to be 51 and my daughter at the time was maybe 15 or 16 at the time and is soon to be 18 but she eats menudo with the ol man probably 4 or 5 years now and I couldn’t be more proud!!!
I usually make this kind in the summer time when I crave menudo just to get my fix I whip out the big pots when it's cold out and make it from scratch never thought to use menudo spice mix for the can will try today thanks alot
I always add water, let it cook longer because I like my tripe very soft. I also add some squash chunks and corn cob pieces. I like to take the large can, put it in the crock pot, add some water, and add veggies at the end. Yes cilantro, onion and lime in my bowl.
I love that you posted this video the same day that I doctored up a can of Juanita‘s Pozole because I wasn’t feeling well but I was wanting some soup. Thanks for all your work.
You should do a bean and cheese enchillada recipe? I'm looking for much cheaper less meat meals for my 5 kids. You can make chicken menudo for cheaper and you get so much more then the can, where I live that can is like 5 bucks
I wanted to tell you that I used your recipe for beef pozole in a Crockpot. Girl…let me tell you that it came out amazing! Between me and my girlfriend, it was done in 2 days 🤣 I really wanted to share it with my neighbor but I was too greedy lol. I remember eating Juanita’s canned menudo when I was too lazy to make menudo and I love your idea of doctoring it up. I gotta try it this way next time. Thanks for your awesome recipes
I love your cooking! I appreciate these easy recipes and that you use budget friendly dinners especially in these tough times right now. Agreed fat is flavor!! I have been making your easy dinners of whatever’s left in the refrigerator or cabinet thank you for that you truly are a woman of inspiration♥️
I love to doctor up this very canned menudo. I sauté some chopped onion and carrot, and garlic, in a bit of olive oil, until they are semi-soft. Add the menudo. Then a little water and garlic powder, salt and pepper, and … I have added hominy to stretch it to feed 4. But I also have added cooked ditalini pasta too, then some hot sauce. It’s so good and filling!
I do the exact same thing to Juanita Menudo as well ... minus your special spice mix. I have even cooked beef feet separately and then added it to the menudo and let it simmer with the menudo for about 15 mins on a low. I always cook the beef feet the night before, since it takes the longest to cook. I really enjoy your videos, this is probably the 6 or 7 video I have watched and enjoyed ! 👍😊❤✌
We have a new taco truck in our town that also has menudo. Really good menudo! I can eat that every day. As for this recipe i like it. Juanitas is very good and does not need a lot of additions.
I always felt like a cheat, but I have been doing this for awhile now. It is just labor intensive for me to make a huge pot for only me. My family hates it, hates when I cook it, hates when I eat it. LOL. I was just eating as is out of the can, but it was just missing something. So I add in more hominy, MORE TRIPE (I love me some tripe), bay leaf, Mexican oregano, lime, fresh cilsntro, fresh onion and seasonings. I always have 3 cans of it in my pantry. Love it. Now I don't feel so guilty about it. Please do a video on tripa tacos 🌮. Yummy
They also make green Chile pork posole. I like it, but I also add my spices and lime. I'm going to have to look for the brand of spices you used. Enjoy
This is perfect for just me and my husband it’s very budget friendly and easy. Plus I don’t have to leave the stove on and get my house hot. It’s way to hot in Texas right now.
When I was stuck on the road working far from home and only had the hotel room version of a kitchen... Hated days off and to far from home stuck in a hotel room so challenge accepted. I'd find an grocery store and get a bag of charcoal. Lots of hotels have barbeque grills out back for customers but I also have a little one on the back of my Welding Truck. In bad weather and hung over once played around with canned Menudo. It's not the best but it is cheap and easy. I think you are spot on for dressing it up. I do this fairly often because my family doesn't like eating menudo. There is no point in spending hours cooking it just for me. I will need to try adding the spices in the video. I usually buy the menudo topping mix and add that after heating the canned menudo. I also add fresh onion, cilantro, lime, and sometimes more chili peppers. It really transforms the menudo and the only way I eat it now.
Thank you for this video!! I bought two cans of Juanita's spicy menudo in the can and doctor it up just like you did and it tastes absolutely amazing. Thank you thank you, thank you!!!❤️
I always said you can't beat homemade menudo but with the cost of tripe,I would try it. With you showing your recipe for doctored can menudo,it's got to be delicious. Your recipes are top of the line. Thank you for sharing and I will definitely try it. I want some now(lol). You're the best,Mrs. Angelica.
I have tried this brand and yes good way to enhance the flavor. My issue is that the hominy in the can is sooo hard does it ever soften ??? If you have a tip on that please share thank you
When I lived in Arizona, I would go to Golden Corral on weekends to get the menudo. I cherry-picked the pot for the tripe. I brought my own hot salt (I grew many types of hot peppers, dried powdered and seasoned salt).
My son invited me for menudo on Sunday morning. I asked him where he picked it up (which restaurant) and he told me it was this can! I don't even think he doctored it up! I was impressed. I'm in El Paso and I know good menudo.
I buy this same brand of menudo and enjoy it immensely. When warming it up all I add are red chili flakes for heat, then for serving freshly chopped white onion, lemon and a light sprinkle of oregano. My problem is that I would prefer more of the meat than the amount of hominy. I’m going to have to look around for a Mexican place that might make it from scratch!😊
I was about to comment this same thing. This is the best way for me to get my menudo fix. Tho for the last few months they have cut back on the meat and homeny so I will look into adding some homeny to it.
@@JDKing229 Right?!? I think it’s the economy that has these brands cutting back on the tripe. Oh, well! I’m still going to buy it whenever I’m desperately needing a menudo fix!😁
I bring my store bought Juanita's to a boil with Mexican dry oregano, a bay leaf and a few fresh cloves of garlic. That's it. Then cilantro, lime or lemon and whatever onion you prefer. I prefer green onions. *What do you like to eat with your menudo?? Pan, corn tortillas torados or soft etc?* I like corn tortillas cooked any way.but MY FAVORITE is Doritos nacho cheese flavored ☺️ my kids Dad bought it once on a camping trip to make it easier "I guess" and I loved it.... been stuck ever since.
This is a budget friendly hack especially if you are the only one in the house that eats it. But one tip: you can buy beef stock (broth has a lot more salt). Simmer your seasonings , bay leaves, & aromatics. Then add it to the menudo; have a great day.
I will try it. Mother use to infuse a little fresh cilantro then she remove it. So it doesn’t get to pungent. She would make it for my dad if she didn’t have any frozen that she would make her self. I never cared for Menudo. I just bought canned menudo 3 days ago for the first time. Thank you
I always have "Juanita's hot and spicy menudo" in my pantry , I'm the only one in my family who likes menudo. My standard garnish ... oregano, cilantro, lemon, onion and corn tortillas .... yum Makes sense for me to buy the can stuff ..... now I'm hungry!
I just bought one today! The smaller can one, but the one that says Picoso on it..I like to add some sea salt to taste and chopped white onions & cilantro!🤠
Should have tossed in some Mexican rice in the bowl too. My coworkers use to always send me to get some menudo on cold cold mornings in the shop. They introduced me to the rice in the bowl of menudo. I made pozole for my family yesterday. It's delicious.
Thanks for the video. as a single person this is great. Since covid the price of my local Mexican rest has gone up this is easy way to have my menudo. Since i also like hominy in my menudo this hits the spot. Also love your instant pot recipe.
I LOVE IT. Junanita menudo when I bought it, it's taste just like my mother menudo it taste good and I continue to buy when I crave it. It's so delicious. I choose Juanitas menudo. #1
I can feed 6 people one can of menudo: I dice up a large carrot, and a large sweet onion, and garlic, and sauté it in a pan with butter. Once they are soft, add the menudo. Bring to a simmer. Add some garlic powder and salt and pepper. Some hot sauce. A little extra water, and then a cup and a half of macaroni. Makes a delicious, thick stew . Yummy and filling!
I've been doing something similar for ages. But I start by sweating some onions, adding water, beef bullion, menudo spices, bay leaf, and hominy to the pot and letting it simmer for at least 15/20 minutes. Once the hominy gets soft, I add the canned menudo. Once it's full heated, you're ready to eat (topped with cilantro, onions, and lemon/lime).
Even though I’m a native Texan, I have never been able to eat menudo. That being said, this video actually makes it look appetizing! I doubt I’ll ever fix this, but you make it look good!
I buy Beef Feet, Pigs Feet and Tripe. Then cook them up like I’m going to make menudo. Only I don’t add the Hominy and use menudo spice instead of making the Chili Sauce. When the meat is done I drain the liquid, let it cool, put it in single serving bags and freeze it. It totally kicks up the flavor with the feet and adds extra meat to the canned soup.
I’ve done this for years too! Only thing I do differently is I add the oregano to the menudo while it’s still boiling… And I don’t share!!! Lol Love your cooking. Feel like we’re friends!
Great plan, you have inspired me. Next week I will doctor a can of menudo. I will boil and peel some guajillo chilies, add an onion, some garlic cloves, with some beef stock, and the menudo spices. I will blend it before adding to the can of menudo. I'll probably use a slow cooker. I'll let you know how it comes out.
Hi ,I have a Huge can of Manudo In my cupboard right now cus I can't find Pazoli which is my favorite , but grew up with my mom making both every Sunday all day we are which ever one she made an home made mmmm but cant always make homemade . But when we buy a can my mom an I doctors it up . We always cut up onion s an cut wedges of lemon or lime an we had graded cheese an Mexican oragono n heated n warm corn tortillas an raised my children on both of those homemade an other of homemade Mexican food we made a lot an because of growing up wit homemade Mexican food n tortillas I'm spoiled when I do go out to eat Mexican food or fried chicken or anything my mom was an excellent cook

When I lived in Arizona, I would go to Golden Corral on weekends to get the menudo. I cherry-picked the pot for the tripe. I brought my own hot salt (I grew many types of hot peppers, dried powdered and seasoned salt).
Thanks for the hack i love that soup i also love your recipes thanks aloha from Hawaii
My son invited me for menudo on Sunday morning. I asked him where he picked it up (which restaurant) and he told me it was this can! I don't even think he doctored it up! I was impressed. I'm in El Paso and I know good menudo.
Juanitas is the best .
My sister buys a cheaper brand and it taste like 💩.

Right?!? I think it’s the economy that has these brands cutting back on the tripe. Oh, well! I’m still going to buy it whenever I’m desperately needing a menudo fix!😁
Definitely adding this to my grocery run right now 💟💟💟
I bring my store bought Juanita's to a boil with Mexican dry oregano, a bay leaf and a few fresh cloves of garlic. That's it. Then cilantro, lime or lemon and whatever onion you prefer. I prefer green onions.
*What do you like to eat with your menudo?? Pan, corn tortillas torados or soft etc?*
I like corn tortillas cooked any way.but MY FAVORITE is Doritos nacho cheese flavored ☺️ my kids Dad bought it once on a camping trip to make it easier "I guess" and I loved it.... been stuck ever since.
I like to add a slice of thick cut bacon to the menudo while it's heating up. It makes the broth more rich and taste like homemade.
I love the Bolner Fiesta brand spices!
This is a budget friendly hack especially if you are the only one in the house that eats it.
But one tip: you can buy beef stock (broth has a lot more salt). Simmer your seasonings , bay leaves, & aromatics. Then add it to the menudo; have a great day.
I use Menudo spice mix from Fiesta to my menudo while it's warming up
I will try it. Mother use to infuse a little fresh cilantro then she remove it. So it doesn’t get to pungent. She would make it for my dad if she didn’t have any frozen that she would make her self. I never cared for Menudo.
I just bought canned menudo 3 days ago for the first time.
Thank you
Your awesome 💕thank you and love your channel!
I always have "Juanita's hot and spicy menudo" in my pantry , I'm the only one in my family who likes menudo.
My standard garnish ... oregano, cilantro, lemon, onion and corn tortillas .... yum
Makes sense for me to buy the can stuff ..... now I'm hungry!
Muy buena maestra Mamá!
You are a natural Chef with a great palate!
Forgot your corn tortillas, flour tortillas!! I love that way too. Don't forget the Big Red,Tea Drinks!❤🥳😊 God Bless.
Some red onions peppers of some sort fresh
this was actually really freaking good tbh
Even though I’m a native Texan, I have never been able to eat menudo. That being said, this video actually makes it look appetizing! I doubt I’ll ever fix this, but you make it look good!
I'm going to store now ! Need menudo 😊
Only thing I do differently is I add the oregano to the menudo while it’s still boiling…
And I don’t share!!! Lol
Love your cooking. Feel like we’re friends!
I love doctoring up that canned menudo! It really isn't bad at all!
Looks yummy !
I add crushed red pepper to make it spicy!
