Greetings! Your video about shopping for leather products in Florence is entertaining and informative. My wife and I will be looking at leather items when we are in Florence for three nights next June as part of a dream month-long trip to Italy. Actually, she will be focused more on the gold and jewelry stores, but I'll be looking at backpacks and such. I was interested to hear from you that it is a good idea to bargain on prices, as I've heard different views on that. My question is whether the bargaining applies only to the street vendors or also applies to the branded stores. It seems like the street vendors will come down on their prices but one can't be sure that they are selling authentic Italian-made goods.
Hi Mark and thank you for your feedback. Yes, correct regarding the ‘haggling’ of prices - it is at the street stalls/markets only. Exactly, the fact that haggling/bargaining the price is an expectation sort of tells you that the authenticity is a ‘little questionable’. Cheers.
Hey Badds I found your fantastic and informative travel video’s .I appreciate the experience travel tips and accurate descriptions you give on getting the best out of visiting as a tourist .I am heading to Florence next month and was wondering wether you offer meet and greet catch-up little tour with a fellow Australian x2 for a day etc . Cheers John 🇦🇺👍
Regarding meeting and a little tour, it would just depend on your dates of stay as l am back at work now- so let me know the days of stay etc and we may be able to work something out.
Thank you for these tips! I will be going in a few weeks and was enamored by the street market. However, I will be stopping by the leather school first to see the most "legit" leather instead! Do you have any tips for gold/jewelery shopping? Specifically a florin coin pendant?
Thank you for your feedback - yes, check out both leather locations. Ah, gold & jewellery- happens to be next episode. You can’t go past the Ponte Vecchio for volume and quality of items - a bit pricey. I found a great private shop very close to the ‘old bridge’ too - so check out the new episode. I’ll upload this tomorrow. Cheers.
@@catherinemori4496That's not the point. They sell low quality leather industrial products as traditional florentine handcraft. I know that American are happy to buy low price (and low quality) products just because they buy them in Florence, but that's a disaster for the real traditional handcraft production, gradually destroyed by tourism and this kind of activities.
@@roberto6536. You’re absolutely right. I just watched a video of a women explaining the difference and the prices are not that much higher and you get a quality item.
Interesting topics covered in this and many others of your Florence videos. I like your relaxing style! As a fresh retiree a want to learn and I'm eager to learn. BTW I was in Florence last year the very last week in June and I have promised myself to return as often as my wallet say Yes! But, can you remember or do you have the exact date this video was shot or did you shoot anything around that period? (Just curious if I can spot my self. That's all.)
Hi & thanks for your feedback- last June ‘You can’t judge a book by its cover’ is all about the San Lorenzo Basilica & Medici Chapels - just beautiful inside. Also l had a look at the Duomo during this time.
Thank you for the tour! I'll be visiting Florence for the 2nd time this November and will definitely be stopping by the school. Do you have any other store recommendations for quality leather goods? When I visited last time I went to La Pelle and Walter Moretti and I'm looking for other hidden gems.
Hello. Is it definitely cheaper to buy goods on line from the school of leather as opposed to in person? Kind of thought it would be the other way around. Good video. Subscribed and now ill watch the others :-)
@@rogerq7369 that’s great thank you. There is a tax you pay if in Italy and l do remember the Leather School saying that you can avoid paying this if buying on line. Enjoy the day.
Great video! Florence is the mostt beautiful city in the world. The only other place that is just as beautiful is Athens with the MOST BEAUTIFUL and MAJESTIC sight - the Parthenon, especially at sunset when the exquisite white marble turns golden. It is the MOST beautiful building on the planet! 🌞🙂
I’m so sad. I bought a leather belt and thought was real leather. I got it for 1 euro. I went to another place to get it cut because I realized it was too long. The other place told me it was fake and with card board. They cut it and you see the cardboard. They sold me one that was pure leather and $25 euro. They cut it and it was pure
Italian leather is a scam, the leather is imported from Northern Nigeria ! The fashion houses in ITALY can no longer say Italian leather because of litigation, so genuine leather was adopted. God forbid they say Nigerian leather !
The "leather" in the San Lorenzo market is garbage! It comes from china (of course!) and Taiwan. I purchased some bags there and they all fell apart after a few months of use! It's NOT leather at all, but compressed materials to "look" like leather. However, my purchases from THE LEATHER SCHOOL, part of th Santa Croce Basilica complex, are the FINEST and GENUINE leather in ALL of Florence, and probably all of Italy. The products are handmade and you can see the craftsmen making them there. My purchases that are over 40 years old still look like new, still smell like leather, and soft as buttter! Save your money for The Leather School!! 🙂🌞
Found your video and will be taking my family there tomorrow. Thank you for the video!

Could you talk about hairdressing in Florence , prices por example . Thank you !
Haha - have you seen how much hair l have? Only joking - yes, of course l can work that in soon.
But in San Lorenzo market the leather's products are mostly Chinese. Most of them are made in the Chinese factories of Campi and Prato
So that is how they keep prices low. In some ways, it is still a souvenir 'bought in Florence '.
But they’re Italo-Chinese….theyre locals!
