Thanks for watching these game dev vids! This is the last one before the game releases! You can wishlist it on steam, or just subscribe to this channel if you want to know when it comes out! I'll probably make more of these in the future as I keep experimenting with Unreal. If there's any topics or things from the game you'd like me to make a dev video on, let me know!
@@kiwirocket64 I've uploaded the soundtrack, just waiting on it to get approved by steam! Workshop stuff would be cool, but it would require a ton of work to set up, it's not really in scope for this project.
it's great to see a dev/game designer put so much thought into audio; IMO, music is often overlooked when it comes to evoking certain feelings or moods in a player. The tracks you showed off here sound really great!
Synching gameplay to music reminds me of the shmup Hellsinker. To this day it's the coolest example I've seen of that, and it's amazing how well it works. The soundtrack doesn't just feel like background music, it feels like it's part of the foreground, narrating the action. That game has tons of other fascinating stuff, so it's totes worth checking out if you've never played it.
Something I thought might be cool: You say that lobby music can get stale. Then why not let players "unlock" new chords/track/pieces (idk i know nothing abt music) every time they beat a level? Or you could change it to fit whatever aesthetic you want the next stage to have.
I've always wanted to implement something like this if I were to ever make a game myself, watching this made me waay too excited lol. A dynamic music system like that is so cool
This reminds me of the videogame Proteus, whose whole shtick is that the movements of the player generate songs while they explore a randomly generated island
Your deluxe horoscopes used to inspire me to get into animation, and now you're inspiring me to want to make a game. Your channel is incredible, I've loved watching your journey in creating new art
7:31 I adore like the dynamic music layering based on player location, however I get the feeling that even despite the gentle fade-ins and outs their switching feels a bit abrupt. I’m not sure what it is, but I think it has something to do with musical phrases getting cut off before finishing. Maybe you could try breaking the melodies into self-contained parts that continue playing till they end even after the player left the area where they start playing. Or maybe it’s just the “work” theme I feel kind of clashes with the surrounding tracks. Also, the building with the white roof and green ceiling looks absolutely wonderful! So beautiful!
Probably the best beat-based game dev video that demystifies my questions. Its hard to find solid info like this that isn't just playing a sound file against a Delta. The beat counter event makes so much sense!
GOD I adore dynamic music in games like this. It's so fascinating, immersive, and RARE to see it implemented this fully-and that piano thing, like generative music where the player gets to be the ghost in the machine... I know a lot of these sorts of systems are not new but, still really excited. Plus the music itself sounds gorgeous. Getting excited for this one.
I've recently had a great experience with dynamic audio/music via Tetris Effect, and I love it! You're definitely taking it a step further! Also, I've been enjoying these videos, and I don't know how likely a console release for this game will be, but I love this game so much already, and would love playing it on console. No matter what, I look forward to supporting the project! Good luck! ☺️
Lovely. Nice hearing how some of these things are done. I can see the care you put into it. Music is a really important part of a game's experience, and maybe someday I'll get a chance to put some of these ideas into practice in my own projects
Cool system. A game you NEED to look at for dynamic music is the mobile game "Mekorama". The music is super reactive but still makes sense and sounds good.
Wonderful! I have been thinking about things like this since a very long time, so this in itself makes me want to play the game. Thanks so much for doing this!
I was wanting to listen to Bounce2Me again minutes before this upload, and I had nearly forgotten about it since release so it's not always on my mind. We are connected.
This game looks so cool, but I do have one request visually I feel like jpeg artifacts (like the vaugely similar one you did) would be very well purposed if used very minimally Like in the game Control (2019) they use a effect for enemies which uses ghosting and colors, where I feel almost an outline effect with jpeg artifacting could be used sparingly to add to the already good visuals
Whyyyy do development frameworks have to expose only unnecessarily processed parameters without invitation? TwT Why expose "Playback *%* " when the underlying, and usually much more useful quantity is simply time? (probably in seconds, since sample rates may differ)
This was very interesting. Is the whole music system custom made? I know I might sound rude, but have you looked at FMOD? It already has a bunch of features built-in, but I might be wrong. It would require a conplete music rework, so it might not be worth it even 😬

Man this video really show the game, I thought it was some kind of sandbox at first.
Looks great! Can't wait for it to make me cry lol
You know everyone going to ask u to release a sound track. For example me when are going to release a sound track?
@@tennicksalvarez9079 The first two parts of the soundtrack are already out everywhere!
I have a weird question can you include the soundtrack on steam? Also possably add workshop support so people can make there own races if they want yo

You are like the Bob Ross of game design, your videos are so relaxing to watch
No kidding..
This comment made me subscribe to Jam2go 😂
The anti-maxor
Thank you for re-allowing us to meow during cutscenes
nothing has made me more excited for a game than knowing it has good music.

Kitten Burst is a fantastic OST with a fun game as bonus content.

new Jam2go video lets GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
this is one of the best devlogs i have ever watched
What a treat to start the new year with!
I felt the care that was put into the music, and now I can appreciate the work that went into it. Great video and great game :)

wow this is the perfect game! The way the different systems can interact makes it so digitally organic!!

pleased to hear your cat game is going to release soon! Congrats!! Exciting
with every video you make on it, this game keeps looking cooler and cooler!!!! i cannot wait to play it!
there cannot be a racing game without dnb. making the dnb adaptive just makes it better!

I love dynamic audio
Nice work man!!! (The font you use remembers me of evangelion, liked it)
11:33 PWNED! :D
Honestly, it's very difficult for me to understand what you're talking about, because I'm just enjoying this awesome background music
This is amazing...I want to play this game!!
The ship being called "The Eternal September" is so cool!
your game is like a fever dream
best channel on youtube

Dude, you kinda piss me off with how cool all this stuff you do is. Guess it's a good thing though
I LOVE when games do dynamic music.
This gsme's OST rivals that of Neon White.
This is just ridiculously cool
This is so cool
i geniunely can't wait for this game I'm SO hyped! the soundtrack scratches my brain
are there plans to release it on mac??
Not officially yet, but some people have gotten it working on an emulator!
Awesome work
Awesome! I'm tinkering with something similar, albeit less advance than your system. Inspiring! Are you using metasounds?
reminds me of the tf2 character selection screen
this is so fucking sick
This game looks so cool, but I do have one request visually

Have you looked into the metasounds / quartz systems of UE5? Seems like something you'd be interested in 😁
Yeah! I can’t wait to mess around with it, this project is all UE4 though
This was very interesting. Is the whole music system custom made?

Yeah! I tried out FMOD a bit, but I wanted to make my own system so I had more control over it (also just for the fun of it).
@@Jam2go oh yeah, I feel you on both points
I’d get this game instantly if it was on consoles.
what is the font used at 3:45? nice game also
Wasn't there a flower game on Playstation that did this?
poggers
HI
What even IS this game?
