      Odell Mateo nothing beats a nice strat style guitar with singles, but splits sound great for their purpose. I have both - I love the sound of split humbuckers AND singles depending on the sound I’m going for. I now understand why people own multiple guitars lol! (I’ve only had one electric for 19 years up until last year - a strat).

    Funniest comment? "One thing people will notice when they pick one of these up at Guitar Center." Hahaha. I've been to all seven Guitar Center locations within six hours of my house and they have the following guitars: 45% Gibson (of that 80% Les Pauls and 20% SGs), 40% Fender (of that 75% Strats and 25% Teles) and the remaining 15% is a hodge-podge of lower-end Ibanez, Schecter, and LTD guitars. Once in a wild blue moon they might get in a used PRS, Dean, etc. etc. but that's rare. Let me know how things are up north or out west. Cheers.

      I don't think it's out of tune, just dissonant. That part of the song (tendinitis) has a really dissonant final chord in the progression and resolves after that. It's also a lot more subtle in the original recording with the backing.

    For those who are criticizing the tone, more than likely for Covid reasons Jason probably had to just record this with whatever Camera mic is picking it up. A lot of guitar reviews will run the sound through a mixer first and have it recorded on some kind of recording software where they can further refine the sound. I don’t think he got to do this for this interview otherwise you could probably pick up the more subtle frequencies.

  • @eddiesidorov8635
    @eddiesidorov8635 3 роки тому

    That top is next level. I’ll stick to my tele and strat but the duality of this is amazing. The only issue I have with splitting coils doesn’t really give you a true single coil sound, just like on my tele combining the two single coils doesn’t really duplicate a humbucker. Technology has gotten the difference really close recently though.

    • @tribbybueno
      @tribbybueno 4 роки тому +1

    • @WRMCHNC
      @WRMCHNC 4 роки тому +7

      @@tribbybueno What a load of internet nonsense. MANY low tuned / 7 / 8 string recordings are done with DI / Impulses etc. It's just a muddy horrible sound, funny how John Petrucci has the same muddy arsed tone from his musicman.... I'll agree it takes a lot to get a low tuned guitar to be clear, normally involves less gain, however dual or quad tracking will only add to the stereo width, and won't improve tightness, just your perception of how "big" it is which maybe more pleasing still doesn't indicate a better tone IMO.

      I’ve always thought 7s and 8s tuned down sound like pointless shit it’s sometimes cool with one dude playing or clean tones but in a live distorted 2 guitar and bass mix it’s ridiculous

    Probably a stupid question, but is that a floyd rose design bridge, or is it something completely different?

    • @Acepilot1312
      @Acepilot1312 3 роки тому +2

      Something completely different. It’s a custom MusicMan bridge, the purpose and function is similar, but not the design. Floyd-Rose tremolos have locking nut as standard, whereas these tremolos don’t require that, still, they can hold tune amazingly from what I’ve heard. This bridge design has been taken from the Majesty Signature of John Petrucci. :)

    • @huntercrannell6726
      @huntercrannell6726 3 роки тому +2

      @@Acepilot1312 oh ok, so if it still locks at the tuners, can you tune freely without resetting the equilibrium or do you have to reset the string action on the bridge after tuning?

      @Acepilot1312 3 роки тому +2

      @@huntercrannell6726 well, I never owned such a guitar with that bridge so I can’t tell you. But, I reckon, you don’t need to set it up again just for tuning, only for string changes with a new gauge.

    The only thing that bothers me about the JP’s, Majesty and basically all their high end guitars is that they don’t recess all the back plates. That seems odd to me. I mean even Gibson recesses the back plates on their LP’s.

    Only downfall for me is the position of that pickup switch. I understand the benefits of it being right there but I've noticed he's constantly grazing or bumping it while down picking. That would get hella annoying to me and cause me to hate playing it. It's his signature so I'm sure he designed it to be there. If it was about an inch and a half forward I would definitely consider buying one.

    • @rmshredz
      @rmshredz 4 роки тому +8

      I have the Sterling version of the guitar, and honestly I also thought the pickup switch location might be an issue but it's really not! even though it's not impossible, the angle you have to flip it is almost parallel to the strings so it makes it a bit difficult for you to accidentally toggle it... I've had more issues with Gibsons than this one, it's a great guitar

    • @ranajoyshil
      @ranajoyshil 4 роки тому +4

      Tbh I really wish other guitar companies put the switch right there, it's a lot less movement to switch pickups

    • @moose1164
      @moose1164 4 роки тому +4

      I mean Jason's plays almost making a fist he doesn't play with the other fingers straight it works for him. I don't play that way. When down picking I usually have a lot of movement in my wrist (very loose). I just know how I play I would constantly hit it. I do see the benefits of it right there but if it was about an inch and a half forward it would be perfect position for me. Everyone is different.

    According to Musicman’s website(they have a wiring diagram for this guitar specifically on their site), the middle position is the two inner most coils, but every video I’ve seen on this guitar says that it’s the two outer most coils. Which is correct? Regardless, I fucking want one, but I can’t afford one yet. One day!
