I have been using this phone for over 2 years ever since It was launched. I am not obsessed with firmware updates and have been using the stock firmware JB 4.1 which I updated to JB 4.3, havnt updated yet to Kitkat and Lollipop.
Coming to the phone, there is no issues at all. The phone's performance is still zippy and does not hangs or lags anywhere. Camera quality is excellent, though I personally use the 4:3 aspect ratio instead of 16:9. Nothing to elaborate regarding the music quality as it is brilliant. Battery Life (after using it for 2 years, it still gives me around 1.5 days on a 3G network with Whatsapp (I dont use mobile fb, weather widget etc..).
Getting a spare part is a questionable thing, though I havnt come across any issues so far, which would require a visit to the service centre. Just use the phone as it is and dont experiment with OS upgrades. If you are getting features of your requirements and the phone is working fine, then its not required to update.
Regarding charging, I am pretty satisfied and it charges from 15% to 90% in just 45 mins on an original sony charger.
The phone supports upto 128 GB of internal memory (though company has tagged it as 32 GB) I am using a 64 GB Samsung Card and no issues at all.
Games like Asphalt and other HD games run pretty good. Though I have now uninstalled it coz I dont fill my phone with games and useless softwares.
The only thing as an owner, I would recommend an improvement is :
Internal memory is bit less, which could have at least been 16 GB and the phone heats up on prolonged net surfing on 3G network.
Overall : Its a great phone from Sony and has a pretty good built quality. Fully worth the money.
I miss this Phone in 2021 now.
I bought it a week back n am really satisfied with xperia zr. especially screen shot is also superb!! the best thing is.we can click pics even when video runs..yes secondary camera is vga..but i feel that it's also good to them those who dont wana disclose there face clearly :D

1.Should I buy it right now or wait for the kitkat upgrade?
2.Can you tell me by when will be the official kitkat upgrade be available ?

I have used this phone for over an year now and after having faced mulitiple irritating problems such as phone speaker not functioning, poor battery life, over heating at the back I must say that your review Ranjit, is way off the mark. Sony is unable to repair the phone. Please avoid buying it.
Pls rate the Xperia ZR in every aspect.......As i before say review is great

Sir, I have xperia A, and I think it has a lot in common with xperia ZR. The notification toggles can be customized by going to settings>display>tools. I wont be having a chance to check it on the ZR, but it would be nice if I could hear a reply on this comment.
any guess about the battery performance in 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 (ZR) ??

A lot of have people said that this phone is not completely waterproof. Some water droplets leak into the back cover & many complained of water damage on GSMARENA. What is the problem?

Hi Ranjit. While comparing Xperia ZR with the Z i surprisingly noticed almost everytime that the ZR responded slightly faster than the Z. What could be the reason for this? Both phones having exactly the same processor, system chip and RAM, is the ZR a touch faster because it has to handle only 8 gigs of internal against the 16 gigs on the Z? Looking fwd to ur reply as i simply love the ZR and yes..speed and responsiveness is what i need the most ..thanks :-)

hey ranjith i want to buy a mobile between 25 to 33k which one would be better and i dont want to buy sony xperia ZL.
This is basically the same as the SP but waterproof and not as premium due to the lack of aluminum! I was tied between this and SP but got SP as it was more readily available and more premium! Don't let the 1.7ghz snapdragon S4 pro chip fool you as it actually beats the ZRs quad core S4 in many benchmarks others it equals it, so real world performance is probably identical if not faster on SP!
(1) ZR has one whole extra gig of RAM compared to SP. Hence, better multitasking.
(2) ZR has got better camera.
(3) ZR's camcorder can shoot more detailed videos with high bit-rate compared to SP's.
(4) ZR is Dust and Waterproof.
The only thing SP got going for it is the beautiful LED notification bar.
Maverick Mali and removable battery.
Don't mean crap! The camera isn't better in ZR at all I 've got both and in quadrant the SP got 8060 to ZRs 7786 ok yes it has the ram advantages but apart from that it ain't no better!
Jon Federman When you run benchmarks which use four cores than ZR is twice faster than SP :). Plus four corse gives more "flexibility" to CPU and in general multitasking is much better etc. etc. So, one core 1.7 vs one core 1.5 Ghz sure SP is faster, but ZR will win in case of many apps at the same time AND 2Gb ram makes everything much smoother.

And i am majorly confused which one should i buy....im not much of a gamer but if i buy anyone of those then i might become one....i have an xperia active with me right now, would be using the phone majorly to be on whatsapp, facebook, emails, browsing, watching videos, sometimes gaming and lastly listening to music. hello geekyranjit. i have a query. i am using xperia ion.i am facing many problems with ion since i purchsed it.major issue is of battery. it drains out very quikcly.and other problems are tracks used to get stop and then play automatically after few second. i have formatted my phone 9 times in 11 months and twice the motherboard is changed and also camera lens changed three times(gets dust easliy).but now i want to purchase a new mobile. so kindly tell me how is xperia zr. i want all the specs zr has in my phone. also want to know does zr has mhl. i want to connect it to tv. as ion has hdmi. and does any phine can fight wit xperia zr. i have heard about moto x. please reply me as soon as possible. i want to buy it today, and just found your video today . thanks :)

hello ranjit, i am having a serious issue with cell phone and water damage.
so i have finally decided to go for a water proof phone. after lot of checkups, zoomed in to sony XZR, but i am not sure abut the water proof capability of this phone, as i checked on gsmarena and they told the cellphone is not very good at that? can u suggest so other sturdy cell phones, i can compromise on gpu,ram but require a 4-4.5' screen ,,

Nope, but only after you root the phone, and then you install an app that is called FolderMount, you can move app's data to your sd card
