Something else I pulled from this story is that self-actualizing can happen in unassuming, mundane moments. As this memory was stated to be lost, the fact that it’s the singular memory spontaneously recalled in his second before death shows that it’s a pure, simple moment of unparalleled joy and importance, even though he couldn’t have known that as a child.
I love this story for that, of assigning the seemingly mundane moments meaning. I often wonder what my bullet in the brain moment could be.

I always thought instead of being amused at the grammatical mistake, he was in love with the possibilities of language and that's the beauty of life that's eluded him since then

Bingo. You are right. He makes a point of saying he wanted to hear it again but he thought the others would think he was being mean. Instead, it was a pure moment and sound that existed without ego and opinion. The ecstatic.

@@stoneburner4070 omg exactly. Reminds me of the joy when I discovered Deconstruction and the possibilities of language just multiplied

the story imparts that anders was captivated by the musicality of that phrase ‘they is’ that it began his pre-jaded love affair with language…and how that love affair diminished over time and how he missed it and recaptured that enchantment through a life-changing memory at a life changing event

Literary ly wouldn't be a great short story if that is what it was about. You have it backward. Or maybe your brilliant and your video made me the critic character unable to experience without dissection.
