Wonder if Robert Siodmak's 1957 West German film The Devil Strikes At Night ever gets any mention in these quarter. IMO it is excellent! You all remember Siodmak, don't you? A fine noir director.

Sorry, but I actually like Undercurrent! Then again, I love Katharine Hepburn so much that it's probably my own bias! Crazy how two amazing actresses like Katharine Hepburn and her cinematic descendant Cate Blanchett have both tried their hand at Film Noir, but for some reason or another it doesn't work out. They both seem perfect for the genre to me. It's interesting that Eddie Muller met Frank Miller when he was at Marvel. I recently re-read The Dark Knight Returns but have never read his take on Daredevil, though I know how acclaimed his run on the character is. You can tell how much Frank Miller loves Film Noir/Pulp Fiction. It's likely that he might have preferred to be a writer like Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, or James M. Cain as opposed to his fellow comic book writers. I agree with Eddie, I guess we still have a slight interest in comics but we prefer them as comic books, not so much(or at all) when adapted to film. The fantastical elements are much better illustrated on paper than any other medium in my opinion.
While both the 1947 & 2021. "Nightmare Alley" films, suffered from it's studios not letting/wanting the films to get legs and build an audience, studios today rarely have the patience to do that and target/bank the results on the opening weekends. But by releasing the 2021 film the same week as "Spiderman", the theaters themselves where it opened on Friday, pulled it by Sunday, so they could run "Spiderman" on more screens. The 1947 film was pulled after a couple of weeks, the 2021 film was pulled from many theaters after just a couple of days . (Would be interesting to know the grosses in December/2021 vs January/2022 when the b/w version played.)
I can understand your disdain for movies loaded on UA-cam. Some of them have horrible quality and I'd be embarrassed to put such a bac copy up. However......As a lifelong movie buff and senior citizen, I don't have enough time left to wait for every movie to get restored to pristine condition. So, yes, I do watch movies from UA-cam, when there is no other source. I can live with the imperfections until something better comes along.
Los Olvidados is a stone cold masterpiece, brutal as all hell... Quite unforgettable. I've seen it maybe 5 times already and every time it is awesome. Love the surreal sequences too and the non professional lead actor who is terrific!

A good crime film with noir themes featuring teenagers and children is Los Olvidados (The Young and the Damned) by Bunuel.
