hey salty idk if you do check out these comments and especially since this is late
BUT they did mention a group of the ancients stayed behind angle island, my assumption is that chao's lineage protected the master emerald JUST LIKE KNUCKLES idk that's just a simple but more realistic one is that the ancients worshiped the master emerald and so when chaos became the last one of his generation line he chose to protect the younglings and master emerald as well

Hey salty, I don’t know if you read the comments, but the koko wasn’t the souls of the ancient. Sage does say in one of the side cutscenes that the koko were a a charm that the ancients made and they put there memories in the koko later
