Most people use an agent who shows up exactly on time at "Bribe-o-clock" to submit the application. This is the reason the changes occur every ten minutes, so that applicants have to turn to these crooked agents so that every one gets a cut.

I went to Immigration in August to renew my one year extension @ Sri Racha, ChonBuri. I had all my copies signed and my bank letter, plus signing every page of my bank book. It took about 45 minutes and I did it without a service. They scrutinized my bank book very carefully, but in the end, no problems. In past years I always used a service, but this time it went fairly smoothly, by myself!

I've dealt with IMMIGRATION for 17 years. Yes they can give you the run-around OR they can be helpful and polite. I finally found a fast and easy solution to annual renewal of retirement visas ... I START my annual renewal by collecting what i THINK I need at home. Then I go to the PHOTOCOPY shop next door to IMMIGRATION and ask them to copy whatever they KNOW is the exact current list of required paperwork that I will need. They know all the latest requirements. Quick in and out and cheap . ahhhhhhh why haven't I done this for the past 16 years ? Duh ! It can be a stressful day when some guy in a brown uniform has the power to deny your application on some new technicality and you may have to exit the country.

I just extended my retirement visa for the 1st time, and it was pretty straight forward! I didn't have any issues regarding the bank. perhaps, because i had a dedicated account for the 800k. Anyway, in CM we have several immigration volunteers and I was surprised how helpful and knowledgeable they were. Don't be afraid to ask them questions. They love to help tourists and retirees out. I did not use any agencies in helping me out on both times. the 1st time i had to run back and forth several times, but the 2nd time was a breeze with the help of the volunteers on both times. I tried to do my 90-day check in online forever, but i could never get it to work, but just found out from Chuck today that you have to do 2 week prior to your 90-day. I wish i knew that! Thanks Chuck!

Thailand have made Polices change to *_branch out from visitors and tourism_* towards manufacturing. 2021 Thailand will be manufacturing hub of advanced technology, the government will start 20 new hub in addition to the 50 already in place the last 20 years (on paper). 95% of all stuff made on earth will be made in Thailand via blockchain financing hub (what that will be is still to be determine), much better, stronger that things made in America or Germany. Thailand's bottom less source of taxi and TucTuc drivers will manage that expansion, if you are observant you can notice how they sit and do the planing. Thailand will colonize the moon + surrounding solar system from early 2022 and onward. *[sic!]* I forgot anything?

@@ChocolateManInThailand It's possible to do both. I remember when the system was utterly corrupt and the immigration police chief was among the richest people in any tourist area. It is a balance between "people gaming the system" (it was mostly Thais themselves) and evermore bureaucracy/authoritarianism. Given the average monthly salary in Thailand is 15k baht, demanding foreigners earn 65k (or have 800k in bank) is peculiar to me. Especially given tourism has helped Thailand grow into a dominant regional economic power and is a clear net benefit to Thailand and Thai authorities (unlike immigration in general to the West).

How else are you going to prove that you meet the 3 months of 800,000 after extension and not going below 400,000 Baht the whole year if they want proof? The cost of staying in Thailand is I think too much. Yes I know if you want to stay permantly in Thailand it will cost but is that cost worth it?????? Just a few observations. Great info. Great video. Richard from Tadmania Australia

Maybe that's why I don't cope well with bureaucracy when it is unhelpful. It has been a requirement to have a 12 month bank statement since December 2018 when The US, UK and Australian embassies stopped issuing lncome verification letters. This is not a new requirement, however when these 12 month statements were first required in 2019 for visa renewals, the immigration offices around the country were not all used to the new system and some offices were more lenient than others in enforcing the new system. Last year it was a requirement that was strictly enforced by most offices with many nationals from the US, UK and Aus experiencing frustration re the inconsistent application of the new proof of the financial requirement for retirement visa renewal This has been the only change to retirement visas in many years. It's a bit of a myth that the immigration rules are constantly changing. And yes, that is good advice to go into your immigration office before doing your visa extension and pick up the print out from your individual immigration office
Also it is now possible to do your 90 day report online right up to the date your reporting is due. I have done mine online a couple of times in the early hours of the moning of the due date. This changed in March of last year after previously only allowing you to report no closer than 15 days and not after 7 days before the due date. No need to hire an agent, five years of retirement visa extensions without an agent, no need to speak Thai or take a Thai speaker with you, follow the handout, bring extra copies of everything, it truly isn't rocket science if you speak and read English and you have no visual or hearing impairment

Thailand and paperwork - my first trip to Thailand 20 years ago, I had done my research into the culture, what not to do etc, and felt suitably prepared. The lonely planet guide informed me there was no need to pre book a hotel for Phuket, just turn up and there will be plenty of choice and so I arrive at Bangkok, intending to get across to the domestic terminal (as it was then) and head off to my final destination, I just had to get through immigration.
I'm from the UK so VISA on arrival should have been no issue, but looking at the face of the immigration guy, something's wrong. He's holding my arrival card, and pointing, not even looking in my direction and not really saying anything either, maybe he did, all the noise in the airport, but he's certainly not happy. I look at the card, it's the line that says 'Hotel'. I start to explain that I haven't booked anything and that I'm going to..... He says something in Thai louder than before, and again points at the section of the form.
I realised I wasn't going anywhere unless that box was filled. No problem, I said as I picked up a pen and wrote the name of a hotel I stayed in some years earlier on another trip. It was a gamble, but as soon as he saw it was filled in, out came the stamp, a flurry of hands and my passport was being held out for me to take back, and off I went. My final destination, according to the paperwork, the Sahara Beach Hotel lol.

The reason the bank has to send it back to the main bank is because it needs to show the money in your bank account came from a foreign source and not internally in Thailand. If your bank statement shows Interbank Transfer, it came indirectly from another partner bank within Thailand. To prove that it came from abroad, one bank (Usually Bangkok Bank) will show the transaction source with FTT against it (International Transfer) for your bank book - They need to supply this information to your bank. If using Transferwise to bring in money, make sure you select "Funds for Long Stay in Thailand" as the reason. The bank you transfer the money to, should be able to route it directly to your bank, but you need to request it via a FET letter requesting the transfer goes directly to your bank in Thailand. The Bank statement will then show a number like TFN05027 or similar next to the transaction....which is a code for International Transfer.

Kbank are excellent and they issue 12 month statements at the branch, on the day, in minutes. Always done a 12 month statement just to be safe and to show the 800K balance for the 3 months after last renewal, no less than 400K for next 7-8 months and 2-3 months before renewal (time frames depend on your immigration office) - They do check very carefully!!! To be safe, never let balance go below 800K all year.

This is my experience at Udon. I've been doing the one-year printout from BB for a couple of years. Like you, I don't always remember to update my passbook so to me, getting the one-year statement ordered from Bangkok is the easiest way for me. My renewal was in August. I always start my renewal process at the 30 days prior mark because there is always something, and I want to have plenty of time for whatever expectedly unexpected thing is going to happen this year. This past August I had my one-year statement but I got the one Immigration officer who always seems to find something to make me come back a second time. That IO wanted an 18-month statement instead of the 12-month statement I had with me. That was the only hiccup. I waited for the new longer statement to arrive from Bangkok, went back for my second trip to Immigration, and got my extension processed quickly and easily (by a different Immigration Officer.) Like Foreigner Joe I do my extension on monthly income rather than savings in the bank. The way I look at it these are only minor hiccups for one or two days and all the rest of the year I get to enjoy living in Thailand. To me, it's a pretty small and insignificant price to pay for being able to live here. :-)

In and out of the immigration office smoothly and quickly. The visa service is the way to go for me, if there are any questions, they handle it. Before we go to immigration they have all the paperwork for me to sign, ready to go. Their knowledge of the immigration system is well worth the fee. They also handle the 90 day check in as well.

They said that I must make an appointment on line and it would be next year before I could get an appointment. There is no facility on their website to make an appointment!! I can only think that there is a bunch of people being paid by the British government who sit in an office stonewalling anyone who needs the Embassy services. I had a bit of a bumpy road during my renewal this year. At present moment it's in the ''under review'' period and I have to go back in a couple of weeks to get it so I suppose everything will be fine but the process to get to this point was different than every other year. It's my seventh year by the way. My wife had some business to do in the same building as immigration and I told her to go into immigration while she was there to get the official list of requirements for the Non-B just in case anything had changed or it was different from what was online. She did that and we got everything to match the requirements of the list (You mention this idea around 10:40 also). Went to immigration the following week and was told we needed a signed copy of every employee's ID card, something not on the list and never required before. ''Sorry, we can't process the application without that''. Back to the office, rebook the appointment for another day. Lucky I live and work only 15 minutes from the place. So, we went back and all was going well and she suddenly stops and asks, ''What is this business? Are you sure foreigners can still work this job? There are rule and law changes during Covid''. I'm thinking OK, first off, YOU are the law here. YOU should instantly tell us if we are breaching a law here and more importantly, there is a work permit right there on the table in front of YOU that will let you see the Ministry of Labor, who one would assume is well up on the current labor laws, granted to me without issue. So, is she bringing their work into question? She accepted everything anyway eventually and as I said it's under process but I don't know why they need to put people through it. Seven years on the same visa with more or less the same documentation every year and they still find niggly things to try and get you with. Following this, as usual, it has to go to another officer to be verified and he gave me the stamp for which day to come back but while waiting for this I saw the original immigration office giving another foreigner the same run-around again. He argued with her that she wasn't correct and requested to go to a different officer who was younger than the other one so couldn't disagree and risk losing face. They wonder why people use agents then...

I see some others have also commented about the passport renewal. I renewed mine in Bangkok in December 2020. I was a little nervous about having to do it in 2020, because I know people in the US that took over 4 months because of the "situation". I contacted the US Embassy ahead of time and they confirmed it was a 2-3 week process by mail in Thailand. I went on the US Embassy website and followed the requirements (two bank drafts, 2 passport photos, passport and application), I went to Mailboxes Etc. at the mall and mailed everything per the instructions. Believe me, I did not want to be without my passport, and I certainly did not want to mail it, but I did. In under 3 weeks, I got an email that my new passport was being mailed to me with a tracking number. I received my old and new passport the next day. It was a seamless and good experience. It's crazy that I got it done here in 3 weeks, and my friends in the US waited over 4 months.
