That was quite interesting! Your explanation of the science behind the operation of the various types of locks was well done in a manner that allows the average person to understand and appreciate it. Thanks for another great video, Steve!🙂
Crazy that this video popped up today. I just got back from Kirkfield and stayed just a few minutes from the Kirkfield lift lock. We didn't get to see it in action, but now hearing you speak about it gives so much more context. Thanks for doing these videos. I firmly believe it's this type of content that makes UA-cam a great place to be.
Great overview. One minor correction: The other marine railway on the system (Swift Rapids) was actually replaced by a single giant lock (the largest flood lock on the system), not a set of locks. It's a pretty impressive lock which I definitely recommend checking out. The challenge is that there are no public roads to get to it, so water access is your best bet.
Hmm ... it's a good story but there isn't actually anything to see. But I have another video planned that's along similar lines so keep your eyes on my channel, probably later this summer.
@@notsmoothsteve Jumbo’s Cove Train Tunnel by Lake Nipigon? I was on a road trip on Highway 11 years ago and was amazed by this tunnel. It’s epic and should be a tourism destination in its own right. Or you’re planning a video for the half complete canal to Newmarket?
Westminister ponds in London (ON), known locally as Pond Mills, along with some kettle lakes north northeast & just outside of St. Mary's are local geological oddities, like Elora or the escarpment & Hamilton in general, although they are still just small ponds. -also: could you teach us aboot the history Bruce poewr plant?
Nice! I’ve been on the tour boat in Peterborough. 😅 Also been over the Big Chute a number of times over the years in my own boat. 🛥️ Too bad you didn’t catch any boats on the car, as you’d get to see the way the slings work. Edit: if you go five minutes downstream from the “little place called Big Chute”, you get to a big place called Little Chute. 😅

Great video as always Steve.
I have had the pleasure of doing all 45 locks in 2019 on a 48 ft cruiser yacht ! It was on my bucket list ! Thanks for the look back !

I've always wanted to know more about the TSW, thanks!
Informative and cool video
Great vid! The Lift Locks themselves could be a 1 hour documentary!
Great video. Very fascinating.
Another awesome video! Great job! I hope this channel becomes the new "Canadian" Tom Scott channel.

It was nice to see my town of Peterborough mentioned!
I loved taking the kids to see the Lift Lock. You forgot to mention that this lick is the tallest in the world!
Steve, I kindly ask that you go on another road trip to make a video about the proposed Georgian Bay Ship Canal

Thanks!! Love it.. I recall the first time I stopped at Kirkfield and Big Chute..
Were you at the Bobcaygeon lock just a while back ?
Nope - just the locks in this video. Do I have a doppelganger in Bobcaygeon?
Visited big chute a few years ago

Will you be doing video on Oldtown Toronto East? I find it to be a beautiful area of Toronto and would love to learn more about the history.
That's not on my list of video ideas at this point but who knows?
already subbed, so I guess the only thing I can do is this...
Wow amazing for is non boaters 😮
