It's their nature. The last time an American male won the word championships was 1989. Think about how much technology and comfort has been introduced to western Society since then.

I ran Philadelphia in Nov and it's not that bad till 30K. At that point you realize what the hell your doing and hate yourself if you're an average runner
I always thought having a course running through the city was more interesting. that circuit lap course seems quite easy for confusing leaders with runners being lapped.
I don't care I swear as an East African I know what hard work looks like. I wanted Hawkins to win because you know what it feels like when you are the only different person up there like Abebe Bikila of Ethiopia did in 1960 marathon in Rome Italy.
How many of you think at least Marathon rules should be changed to top five metals instead of the top three. I don't care if we have to add copper and Barz.😂😂😂😂
Strategically it was such a huge risk for Ayala, but I can certainly appreciate the effort with his toughness and grit. It’s a shame, I was hoping he’d succeed but we can’t defy what’s been done since marathon racing has started. As great as all these athletes are, this shows us how weak/fragile humanity really is. We work hard to train the human body, mind and endurance but in the grand scheme of things we’re very limited.
I think Alayla knew he was screwed for this race since he ran a full marathon 2 weeks prior so he was just trying to pull off something spectacular and it didn’t work out as we know

Probably was afraid that the momentum that he built up would be lost if he settles, and then he won’t be able to replicate it.

Let's be real, if it was 3 white guys on 1st 2nd and 3rd and an ethiopian on 4th, nobody would be comforting or giving props to the Ethiopian like they do with Hawkins here. Well done to the three medal winners who won it fair and square. And well done to ALL the rest who participated, black, white or asian.
Why do you have to make it about race? Of course they would have given the Ethiopian runner props for doing what Hawkins has, and sympathized him for that crushing defeat. Hawkins got the props he did because this was the second straight championships he worked hard to medal, but finish fourth. Second championship in a row. I'm giving him props, too. If it were an Ethiopian, a Kenyan, or anyone else, I would've done the same thing for them, and I'm sure the commentators would, too. Stop making everything about race because you sound ridiculous.
Am so happy for Callcum Hawkins, he's the man of the race, that's how marathon is ran, only if he had atleast gotten bronze, just like Galen Rupp blended it in Rio marathon....#love from Uganda.

Ayala's pace in the beginning was something he could not sustain. I suspect he planned to only run 21.1km anyway. His pace dropping from 3min/km to 3min15/16 seconds per km clearly showed he did not have the endurance for that.
hawkins had no chance with those last few hundred yard sprints by the east africans. you have to be a little taller like galen rup to keep up with those long sprints at the end like that.
Feel like Tadese just literally tried to do what he did in Berlin 09: wind it up before halfway and try to hold it. Unfortunately it's a lot harder to hold it for 14 miles than 3. Did a great job in Berlin though, losing to only prime Bekele. Perhaps winding it up greatly like 4/5 miles before the finish here would have been better.
kallum hawkins if when he reached the group he was without imposing a rhythm, in the end he had the opportunity to fight that third place. but still an excellent career.

As dull as the course was, the race itself was awesome. So many cool, interesting or tragic storylines. Excellent coverage and commentating aswell.
