So, officially, the way it works in Marvel is that time-travel creates parallel universes. It does not destroy the original timeline, it just creates a new one, and this is one of the reasons the multiverse even exists. Which means Cable cannot change or undo the future he came from through time-travel, but time-travel wouldn't genocide it either. (I say "officially" because Marvel writers ignore that rule all too often or have characters forget about it who should know better, but there are several characters and universes that exist entirely because that's how time-travel works there).
And in recent comics it is say sometimes time travel is part of the timeline . So chancing past is accually doing something should be done . Only doom can change the past because he has a special time travel machine allow him to do this. You know what , I am just gonna read the story and pretend I understand any part of it
But if he originally thought that his bad future was just the future, and he goes back to change it so that it's simply half of the future, that still helps, right? And he can keep going back and creating more and more splinter timelines, so his original one is only a really small part of it.
@ There's different types of time travel in the Terminator (the concept of sending someone back in time to kill John Connor implies multiple timelines, but John Connor's father is from the future, implying a single timeline). @@BlueBlazeKing At this point I think Xavier may have spent more time in the comics walking than being in the chair. On that note, and speaking of time-wimey stuff, most of the 80's X-Men took place over the course of two years in their time. Kitty Pryde turned 14 in an issue of X-Men in 1980, a few issues after she joined. She had her 15th birthday in an issue of X-Men in 1986, and she turned 16 in an issue of Excalibur in 1990. Xavier regained his ability to walk in an issue of X-Men in 1982 and was paralyzed again in an issue of X-Men in 1991. So in those 2 years of comic time of the 80's run, he spent about four months in the chair and about twenty months able to walk.
Beast: If you change the past, you're creating a paradox. Cable: How? I shoot Wolverine, and my future is better. Xavier: Yes, but if you do, will you go back in time to shoot Wolverine in the new timeline? Cable: .....what? Cyclops: If you change your future, you have no reason to travel back in time to change it. This means no one travels back in time to change the future, so the future resets to what it was before. Wolverine: So, do I still get shot or not? Cable: I don't know, so I'll shoot you twice to be sure. Wolverine: And not even a first dinner?!
There was a game that had an interesting concept of Time and Time Travel to quote one character “Time is a coursing River. Cast a stone into it and the water will flow over it as if the obstruction were never there, we are pebbles and have even less impact” in the story by and large History is unchanging. If you back in time then that means you have always gone back in time. Therefore anything you do has technically already happened and you at worst aide in what has already happened.
This honestly got me thinking a little, and made me realize that time travel breaks the laws of energy conservation. Assuming you go from the future to the past, ypu would be taking energy with you (heat, cells, food, etc) and any interaction you do in the past would lead to an exchange of energy with the surroundings, and since energy cannot be destroyed, said energy would still exist in the future in some form, while the energy that already existed in the first place would still exist, efectively increasing the amount of energy existing in the planet
I love how Scott changes from super suit to civilian clothes and then back to suit for no reason. Also Xavier saying "sigma chad energy" was not among the things I ever expected to hear, but here I am.
What I love is if I remember correctly "Sigma Chad" started on incel forums, then began being used "ironically" and now is just common slang. Language is weird and it concerns me Charles knows this term after wanting his laptop burned
Time travel isn't possible, and the only reason it is in sci-fi is Wells' _The Time Machine_ which is actually about evolution. The eponymous time machine is just a plot device, not the science in the fiction. And logically the unnamed time traveller should not be able to go back to the past (he would collide with himself), but then his story couldn't be told.
Beast learned how to reverse engineer Wolverine's powers and thus flaying people alive is hacking away the unhealthy parts of the body so that you simply regenerate new healthy parts of your body... sadly they also took the other sections of Beast's medical learning meaning scientific experimentation might also be on the table even if they know you lack the regeneration powers.
That makes sense. And Cable being the May Sue he is has Wolverine's healing factor times two, or something. That something being the technovirus that curses him to be half robot.
There are multiple forms of how time travel works that’s been thought of there’s Fixed Timeline/Fate Multiple Timelines/Multiverse Dynamic Timeline/Paradox

It depends on everyone who manages their travel over time as they want. Sometimes only one timeline really changes, other times you can't change time and it's just a loop, others it works with other universes as you say, others mix these rules up a bit
@ No, the OP is right. All time travel does is create either an alternate future in the same timeline or an alternate timeline that runs parallel to the original timeline. All the other movies and tv shows have it wrong. If time travel did exist, the rules would be akin to the 2009 Star Trek movie where Spock creates an alternate parallel timeline that co-exist with the original timeline he came from; or Loopers where a time travel's interference in the past can re-write the future he came from.
This is why MCU time travel sucks. They tried to do it somewhat realistically in Endgame, but since Loki, they've been constantly contradicting their own rules.
Isn't Loki's time slipping doing something much more complex than the avengers though? since despite TVA being supposedly outside time he's still manipulating it there? and also the fact that when he time slips he goes into his own body instead of standard time travel? and him being able to literally stop and turn back time in a way that turns back the destruction of a timeline, to me it looks like he more so turns back time rather than goes back in time
it's because he probably captures mutants and steels their powers to keep himself younger. Maybe I'm mistaking him for Mr. Sinister. Or maybe professor X keeps having to reset his age which gave him a toomer.
