Also, regarding insurance... I learned a lot about this because I lost everything in a fire about 7 years ago.... You would be surprised how quickly things add up. Remember, the value of items is replacement value, not what you paid for them. Also, take pictures or video of everything in your home periodically. You forget how much you have. Luckily, my insurance company paid to have the clean out company inventory every item they removed and threw away. Even then, stuff was missed. Take the time and photograph or video tour your house, every closet, panning over every item, inside every drawer and cabinet. Save that recording to the cloud. Remember, it's not just your furniture and collectables... every tshirt, every pair of underwear, socks.... they add up quickly. And cash, don't keep a lot of cash at home because there's a limit on how much is covered. Have a good long talk with your insurance agent.
Awwwe that’s awful! I’m glad you had insurance. I’ve seen uninsured collections gone to fires, and luckily there were community members who pitched in to help. Anyway not the point lol. There’s this weird block in my brain, like I don’t want to know how much was taken, so I haven’t sat down to count every single thing - but I know there’s more than I claimed. And then there’s the worry about how much my premium will go up because I made a claim. I still don’t know. With everything I’ve paid, and knowing my collectibles limit… I’m not totally sure the insurance is worth it. (But at least it made coping better during the ordeal)
@@DisBlaine you might be surprised. A single claim shouldn't raise your premium. A total loss didn't affect mine since it was a single claim in a long history of being insured.
Also, I didn't realize that there were companies that specialize in collectibles insurance. It might be worth it to get a quote from them as well as from your own insurance company what additional coverage would cost for your collections. That's something im going to do now too.
❤❤❤ I forgot to mention that my great grandmother was a doll collector in the 1910s to 1960s. During her funeral someone came in and stole all of her collectable dolls. My family was so hurt because she loved those dolls. However when she was alive, certain people in the community put down or down played her doll collection as if they were worthless. Why would someone bother to steal something that was "worthless." That operator was so insensitive, dolls have tons of value enough obviously for thieves to steal them.😒
@@persnicketypleasantpenelop7505 from her funeral?? That is the vilest thing I’ve ever heard. While true you have to be pretty despicable/ desperate to steal from someone in any case, that’s a disgusting new level. Eww.
@@DisBlaine I agree. That shows how our society can have outstanding people who will save a complete stranger's life at the expense of their own life v.s. people who will steal from the dead. That experience in the storage locker with Carl is so scary. The lack of footage is sus. I’m sorry you went through this. I can understand the paranoia.
@@steph585 looking back it was so unwise for me to enter that locker when he was behaving like that, so I can’t help but be happy things didn’t get any worse. But yes everything is so suspicious, almost obvious, which makes it more annoying nothing is really being done about it.

First, I am so sorry for what you went through and how your were violated that way. It was a heartbreaking story to hear. I completely understand now how your videos you did seem a little I guess distracted. I watch your videos to kind of unwind my day and sometimes fall asleep to them. I would have to say not this one, because it was so emotional and sad. I hope that you take the time and space you need as this was a traumatizing event. So many people would say otherwise, but when someone takes something from you (doll or something else) you have a sense of loss of control over your person. While theft is not the worst that can happen to violate someone (I would know) it is still a violation. @@LisaWhitmire-c3f yep that’s the big part of the violation, feeling like you don’t have control over your surroundings. I can’t make anyone else do their part to get my stuff back… so I choose to move on. And yeah I don’t think I want the rest back lol. It feels tainted to me how. But I might get over that someday!
I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this. My family came home one day in December when I was 8 to our front door completely missing and our house ransacked. One of the only things they didn’t take was the shipping box with my first American Girl doll, meant to be my Christmas present, but they took the porcelain dolls my mom was saving for when I got older along with our electronics, jewelry, etc. It is such a violating experience being robbed and even now I still have anxiety about people messing with my stuff or potentially stealing it. I wish you the best with healing from this, and I really hope you are able to get all of your stolen property back eventually! Edit: “Carl” sounds like a right nightmare and I agree with others that he seems to have been behind the theft. Oh man. I can imagine the incredible frustration you felt (and still do) going through all this. I know the feeling of paranoia and violation. When I moved into my first place by myself it was a condo that they had totally renovated. Mine was the first to get finished so I was living in an entire building by myself before anyone else moved in. One morning I went into the garage and someone had broken into my car - stole everything from the glove box, tore out the ignition, and took my book of cds. I was so shook after that I didn’t want to sleep at my place. My car was never the same after that - it constantly had electrical problems. It took a while and for more people to move into that building for me to feel comfortable there! Yuck. Thanks for sharing your story - I can see how talking about it helps. Blaine, I'm so sorry someone felt entitled to take your belongings with no consideration for the emotional damage that theft leaves behind. Grace had her home broken into twice (the home she was renting when we first started dating). Her feeling so unsafe and being so traumatized is actually the reason we moved in together sooner than we might have otherwise. You mentioned having that "level of innocence" taken from you and I think you expressed it perfectly. You know things like that happen but it is so different to be on the receiving end. I am very grateful you made this video - it has prompted me to double-check our insurance policy and make a lot of people re-think the way their collectibles are protected (physically and financially) and I truly hope talking through this helps you start to move on. IDK if you do counseling already, but that could also be helpful. As you said, it's not just the loss of your belongings, but of a sense of security.

I’m very suspicious of “Carl” as well. His aggressive and erratic behavior plus weight loss definitely points to drug user. My neighborhood is continually robbed by such people and it’s frustrating. I’d be very concerned is this is the case, given he has access to not only the lockers, but to the apartment units. You can’t predict the desperation of drug users. I can’t remember if you mentioned how much of Carl you told the police, but I would explain it again. To be honest I’d be suspicious of “Bill” as well for being flippant about Carl. I mean it really just so happens that the only lockers that were broken into were the tenant lockers? None of the staff? A random thief wouldn’t know that info, but the people who work at the building would. Have you tried contacting the person selling your stuff? You can write a message explaining that you have an open investigation. If you can show them evidence of the police report and insurance claim listing the items, they might be inclined to believe you. I've just seen your video, and for now only heard a portion of it. But before going to bed, I wanted to say that my heart goes out to you and that I'm so sorry for what happened, it's terrible. I understand how you feel, while in the process of moving into our house (more than a decade ago) some thieves broke in. We arrived to see the back door busted and they took all we had started to move. After that I did not feel comfortable moving in. No matter what we did, and it was hard to cope with it. The cops did not care about doing anything. They did not even care searching a bit for what had been stolen. Among what was stolen, they took my Dad's guitar that I kept in his memory after he passed away. I hope you'll feel better soon ❤

My brother collected, bought and sold antiques. One weekend, he was staying at his girlfriends and hadn't been to his house since the Friday. He went to a fleamarket on the weekend, walked up to a booth and nearly everything on the table was from his house. He knew the dealer and he said he had bought the items from a auction house. It was a ring of men that robbed people that were known collectors. A friend of mine was also robbed at the same time. She collected antique dolls. Blaine, first of all, I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you. I can understand how you feel. They didn't just steal belongings stole your sense of security. Secondly, I wouldn't let the police treat this as a lesser crime and not investigate it because it's "just dolls." You have every right to expect them to follow up on the information you sent them regarding the marketplace seller. You don't know his level of involvement, and neither will they if they don't look into it. I work in a 911 center in the US and I can't speak as to how the police operate in Canada, but several weeks without a reply is too much. I agree with your suspicions and think you should be more aggressive with the police to look into this more. Who knows how big this is. If the guilty party has access to your storage locker and possibly the video footage, them perhaps they have access to other buildings and other storage lockers. There may be lockers broken into whose owners don't access them regularly and aren't even aware they've been victimized. You need to be your own advocate and push for the results you want.
@@mykls2153 haha yeah it’s the sense of security!! So many little things make me worry right now-but I’m sure I’ll get over it. I feel like I should be wearing a tin foil hat currently! I didn’t want to harp on the police too much and turn the video into something else, but the follow ups I’ve been made have been very frustrating. They really don’t care. There’s a lot going on in my city with the removal of substance and mental health treatment facilities, so neighborhoods are becoming less and less safe all over. My Chucky dolls definitely don’t rank. It’s a question of do I drag this out and stress myself over it, or look at it objectively and with gratitude that there were a lot of positive flukes in my situation (I still can’t believe that box I was lazy to bring down saved me the way it did!!!) But yes I can see how it sounds like third party members of the story should care more. But they don’t 🫠
@DisBlaine However this works out or how you proceed, I hope your sense of security and comfort return quickly. Looking on the bright side and maintaining a normal and positive outlook is important. Thankfully you are safe. Don't rush to close out your claim. That's why they give you two years. This close to the situation you're not thinking clearly. Once you're in a good head space, sit down and calculate what's missing and how much you paid. Remember, not everything should classify as a collectable... some items are decorative Holiday items. 😉
Blaine,...Wow!! That was really scary!! 😮 I totally believe it was an inside job...Carl definitely was hiding something...I wonder if he doesn't have enough money for food, and thats why he had the drastic weight loss...I know I can get pretty irritable if I went too long without eating. Bill seemed a little sketchy too...like the whole nervous thing. Wonder if they had seen your online profile, so they knew about your collections?? 🤔 It's also discouraging the lack of concern from the police. They weren't just a childs doll or puppet that only cost a few dollars...they were more like props from movie set and irreplaceable. I had something similar happen with the police over the summer...someone started going after all the stray cats in the area to control the pet population, when 1 had been in the wild for 2 years, and her 2 kittens for 1...and 1 of the kittens just had her own kittens. I felt like I was being robbed of something I had helped raise, and was trying to rescue. Tried calling the police, but all she said was, I should be glad they were out of the wild and had a home, or I can always go out and buy another one...after hanging up, I thought, well my Dad died 2 years ago, you mean I can go out and buy another Dad too!?!? 😮 Apparently strays are considered a free for all, unless you have vet papers to prove they're yours. But I believe everything happens for a reason...maybe it was so you could find out about your insurance policy. Any hue...I don't know what your religious beliefs are, and I mean no offense, but recently I've become more aware of the spiritual world the last couple of months, especially the presence of good vs evil. But I got to say God was definitely with you in the storage locker!! You definitely had some divine intervention in knowing what to do while you were down there. And I don't believe for a minute that it was just a fluke that you left that box in you kitchen for a month. Jesus knew what was going on in the locker, so he caused you to wait for the right moment when they would be in the middle of it, so they wouldn't get everything. Jesus was definitely protecting you when you were down there too!! I'm really becoming more aware of God being concerned about the things that are important to us, when no one else seems to get it. Case in point, on God's timing...it was because of your Girl of the Year video that got me thinking about not getting Marisol, and again regretting it. I wasn't even thinking about looking for her, when I saw your video and searched for her on eBay. I then found a great lot for $150 US, for her almost complete collection, and after shipping and taxes it was still under $200. This is crazy considering she can sell for over 200 for just the doll!! 😮 ...and it was from an adult collector. Case in point, I never would have looked for her when she was listed if I hadn't seen your video.
@@kyled4322 so wait-they were taking the kittens to home them? I was expecting a much darker ending. I hope I understood that right, that they weren’t harming them. It was terrible for sure, but it showed me soon areas of my life / collecting I need to improve. I’m not religious, but my partner and bff are (different religions). Still I’ve always felt a higher power. I’ve been through way worse things than this and managed to escape / survive by what looks like a fluke. @@DisBlaine It was crazy. My kids had left for school and I thought I heard someone come in the house, maybe one forgot their lunch or something. I peaked in my daughter’s room. She wasn’t there but I heard some noise from her closet. I thought it was our cat and started talking like you do to cats, saying, “ I know you’re there. Can’t fool me.” And I’m thinking this cat is going to jump out at me. I’m looking at the floor and reach over to pull the door open and see a man’s hand holding it closed. You know how crazy your thoughts go! For an inth of a second I thought maybe that’s a fake rubber hand my daughter put there. But my body took over, I screamed and ran. Usually there would be neighbors out on the street, but no one was out that day. I saw the guy run out through the back alley so I went inside to call the police. I had to leave for work and didn’t think the police would come anyway, but thought I should alert them in case he went into some little old person’s house. While I was on the phone I started shaking and thinking what if someone else is in the house? Yikes! I don't want to make your anxiety worse, but I just need to tell you what I think. (I watched the entire video) I believe the culprits are Bill and Carl. I believe one or both of them are USING (most likely Meth) and need cash. Could be, Bill is covering for Carl, and that's why he was so nervous. They knew all along what was in those lockers because they had keys and their nosey (like most people). They probably even know what's in everybody's lockers! Without a doubt, they knew the locker next to yours is where they could borrow the dolly. (Had to make it look a break-in so it didn't look too suspicious. Only a person with a key would know what was in your locker (valuables) prior to the heist!) Moving forward, I believe the seller probably wouldn't buy the whole lot, so they had to make up the story about the found boxes. It was too risky keeping them. They will probably lay low for now. Under the circumstances, you were right to stand up for yourself with Carl (who was probably acting out because he was scared and thought he could intimidate, causing you to back down! Honestly my partner was suspicious of the building staff from the very beginning-and I was like noooooo they would never! So stupid lol. Bill’s locker was literally right next to mine, so even tho he didn’t have the combination for my lock, he could probably see what I had inside through the wood slats. Highlight is 20/20, so I can see all the ways my locker wasn’t all that secured, and the worst part is you’re right, the management is too lazy to deal with this properly, they just want their rent. Anything else is too far above and beyond.
Good morning. I’m sorry this whole ordeal happened to you. And I had something similar happen to me about a week ago. (Nothing was stolen, but I had a confrontation.) Some random stranger in a mustang (with tinted windows) followed about a foot or less behind me, all the way from a middle school, to Walmart… Then, when I pulled forward to a spot in the parking lot, they literally cut me off (facing me) and took my parking spot! So, I moved, then they got out and yelled at me for taking like, 5 seconds at the stop sign. (It was a four way stop.). We exchanged a few words, I walked away, then they walked after me, and we exchanged a few more. Ironically enough, I was there to get matching Halloween shirts for my husband and I that say, “I got your back.”😂. Sorry for the long comment. I went to my agent and also asked UFDC (United Federation of Doll Clubs) who they might recommend to insure collectables. I also went to them for an insurance appraiser as what I found out was that what I thought was valuable to the insurance company was not. I just don't know how they figure it but check it out. If anything its educational. For me what was stolen was very very important to me as well as being valuable and irreplaceable. I had to deal with that loss and come to terms with it. It was hard both emotionally and physically. Just try to come to terms with it one day at a time. I carried it with me for the longest time and it is not healthy I can testify to that. First off if the rental company is saying "don't put valuable things there" is them admitting they don't have the safety the need. The one time I've rented a storage locker they weren't flimsy wooden boxes. Carl seems sus! There was enough time for him to find the buyer and sell off the stuff. And if his behavior is that with you and others, that's a problem regardless if he's going through stuff or not. The old saying "Leave your problems at the door." when going into work he seems to not be following. Your feeling are all valid. My parents just happened to pull up wile the burglars were still in the house.

Even if they don’t give it back right away until working through the police, maybe they will take down the listing and not sell anything.
All in all, I’m sorry this has happened to you.

It’s a question of do I drag this out and stress myself over it, or look at it objectively and with gratitude that there were a lot of positive flukes in my situation (I still can’t believe that box I was lazy to bring down saved me the way it did!!!)
But yes I can see how it sounds like third party members of the story should care more.

I’m not religious, but my partner and bff are (different religions). Still I’ve always felt a higher power. I’ve been through way worse things than this and managed to escape / survive by what looks like a fluke. I don’t try to answer how or why-because I’m just a person.
And I definitely have observed crossing paths with something unexpected but helpful, so I’m glad my video sent you to Marisol!
A really beautiful comment I got on my doll room tour video (it’s older but got a lot of views) came from a woman who had no idea why my video showed up in her feed but she watched it anyway, and was astonished to see I had my Courtney bunk beds set up with a Care Bears blanket on one bed and strawberry shortcake on the other, the same way her children had when they were kids, before one of them was taken too young.

While I was on the phone I started shaking and thinking what if someone else is in the house? Yikes! I never did see the police, but they apparently drove around and found the guy and asked me to come down to the station and identify some things he had taken from my daughter’s room. That was really creepy. I really empathize about when you saw your dolls on line. It’s such a weird feeling.
Blaine i'm so sorry this happened!! and the fact that you saw your stuff on FB😫💔
@@acrenshaw ugh that part was infuriating!! Like I wanted to jump through my phone and grab my stuff lol.
Total Meth-head!!🤪The management is obviously too lazy to deal with the whole ordeal, and you won't hear from them any time soon! I'm so sorry you had to go through all of this! It seems to be a healthy decision re-evaluating what is important to you and pairing down! Remember, you're stronger and smarter!😊
I guess the whole point is that we have to be careful, and keep ourselves safe. And I am glad you are okay!
@@JAduo-tf2kn whoa!! Road rage is real, so I’m glad nothing worse happened. That’s definitely scary. I just mean I’ve heard of road ragers getting physically violent. It’s unnerving how many unhinged people cross our paths every day!!
@@DisBlaine That’s very true. I am very easygoing, but when people come at you like that, it can be really unnerving, like you said. Anyway, thank you so much for responding, and I’m glad you are okay.👍
Carl sounds like a dam suspect. Guilt had him good! I'm so sorry that this happened to you! 🌼🌈♥️
@@daisyskyheart I wish I had recognized it as guilt right away! I probably wouldn’t have put myself in that situation. But at least I got some of my dolls back out of it 🥴
@DisBlaine Yupp! Glad you got them back🌼🌈♥️🥰🫂✊🏼
That is deplorable.😢 Insurance makes a huge difference in every to all situations. Whether its health, home or property including with flooding damaging internal property such as furniture and precious collectables.
@@persnicketypleasantpenelop7505 when I took my insurance course way back, they taught us “insurance is peace of mind”. Having it definitely made this easier to get through.
it sounds like a horror story ! i'm sorry you had to go through this !
@@rockysDolls I totally agree-that’s why I thought it was still suitable to upload during Spooky Season 🎃😝
yeah haha
I’m so sorry this happened to you. It feels very violating. Nevertheless, you narrated the event so well that I could picture it all in my mind. Thank you for sharing.
@@susanstater4695 yeah it’s such a gross feeling! Even more than the devastation of losing your stuff.
I’m glad you could picture it. Proper UA-camrs use more visual aids - but I’m not at that level 🥴🤣
@@DisBlaine you don’t need more visual aids. Good storytellers never have them.
@@susanstater4695 oh true-like a book or book on tape.
I felt really bad as I was recording that people would have to imagine what I was saying.
So sorry you had to go through this, get a camera of your own to see when somebody gets in your storage room have it hooked to your phone
I’m going to empty my locker and save the $$.
I am so sorry. I have had people who I trusted steal from me and it was devastating as I never seen it coming. I do know as a home owner that even if my coverage covers the content of my home, it may not cover collectables. I just need to let go. I think while writing this, I realize I still do. I guess for me the lesson was inanimate things are not the most important things in life. They can come and go in a blink. I would rather the lesson be that than someone I loved. Blessings.
@@JoanneSag awwww from someone you knew and trusted? It must be hard to trust anyone after that. Empathy isn’t evenly distributed among our species- I hate that!
I didn’t realize how specific we have to be with brokers when opening insurance!! They’re supposed to be the experts ☠️
About 12 years ago my parents house was broken into while they were on a trip. I had been going over multiple times a day to care for their cats. My parents just happened to pull up wile the burglars were still in the house. My mom still owns the home but after my dad passed she put security cameras up and have neighbors all watch her house coming random times ofthe day when she's gone. The feelings get better with time but seem to always be in the back of her mind.
@@MyRealitywithNicole yyyyeah that’s how I felt about them saying not to put valuables in there. But also, it’s pretty amazing only 2 tenants had lockers in there. The rest belonged to building staff. And only the tenant lockers got robbed.
Your poor mom!! I can’t imagine WITNESSING the crime. It’s so easy to put yourself in danger by instinct or reflex. 💔
@@DisBlaine The burglars ran out as soon as the garage door opened. They didn't get much, and my parents were able to recover what they did take. The idiots parked right next to the house and my mom remembered the LP number on it and what the car looked like. They broke into another house the next nigh and as the cops went to the house the saw the car and pulled it over. But the violation feeling seems to not fully go away.
This was so shocking! Are you able to move? Sometimes when there is such a violation of your sense of safety, it might not really come back. But I'm sure you're thinking about this already. And it ruined your Disney trip! What a horrible time. Wishing you the best ❤
Naw I’m not worried about moving. I feel like bad things can happen anywhere, so all moving would do is double my rent (I moved in here before the post covid rent gouging kicked in).
I’ll get to go on my trip when the time is better!
Thanks for listening. 🥰
Too much consumption of crime tv... CARL'S THE CULPRIT! Crunching my🍿
