Mine came straight from Taylor Freelance as a set. You might be able to find it on their website by looking for "weight kits." It looks like you can find the magwell on its own at the link below if you're interested in just the magwell. For reference I'm using the Brass cerakoted to Tungsten color model. taylorfreelancestore.com/canik-tp9-sf-magwell-brass-ceracoted-tungsten/
trigger is backordered for another 5-6 months and then they MIGHT start creating new orders. Something about how their manufacturer is behind and trickle in product each week but are very slow because of covid. at least disruptive defensive (FB/Soon their own site) will be launching their new SFX Compressor in April.
Good luck! I'm not sure where to point you, but maybe somebody else will chime in. You might check some of the resale websites like gunbroker and armslist, depending on how desperate you are. If you aren't too picky about the factory finish you could always get a standard colored model and have it cerakoted.
I have one, found it at a shoot smart gun range. Went there looking for the regular one found that by surprise. I'm happy with my purchase. I'm definitely interested in making sum of these upgrades mentioned in the video
When I took my concealed carry class there was the instructor and two other students besides myself. Neither the instructor or other students could fathom why I would make any changes to any gun, no matter that I explained that I had many guns for different reasons. It always came back the same to them ~ " What if you have to use it for self-defense? " . To them that was the only purpose possible I guess.
The Front and backsights you have listed fits without preparing them, so fits Out of the Box? I want to Change the sights of my black Rival, coz i prefer the 3 Dots aiming
Mine fit out of the box. It was super tight, but I think the stock sights may have been tighter. I did use a pusher tool rather than the metal piece that Dawson Precision sent me. It's also worth mentioning that I'm not an expert gunsmith, so I'm sure somebody could disagree with me on how well they fit.
Unfortunately I didn't film my install process, as it was my first time installing one of these triggers, so it would have sounded like I was making it up as I went. I did use this video, ua-cam.com/video/OaWTXYCyQgM/v-deo.html, by Galloway Precision as a guide. The only thing I did differently was to leave the fire control unit in place (the part they take out at the beginning). Instead, I disconnected the action bar from the trigger return spring in the fire control unit, and pulled the action bar out once it was disconnect from the trigger. Their process works though, for sure. You can use a roll of masking tape on its edge in place of the bench block and save yourself a few bucks. Those are in fact Talon grips, the rubberized texture variant. They're very straightforward to apply if you've got a hair dryer or heat gun handy.
Brandon Rader has a trigger install video that doesn’t require full strip down to install the FS trigger. I typically do a full take down to check the parts for burrs, etc. but if you just want to do a trigger swap, Brandon’s vid shows the easy way to do it with minimal takedown
Nice video bro! For my Canik Rival i just ordered the w74 tungsten guide rod with a 14 & 15lb commander spring , the sprinco trigger spring kit and 29 newton striker spring and of course the brass back strap and mag extensions. I heard it’s a very nice upgrade so we will see. Any recommendations?
I like what you did over all to your pistol made a really nice race gun out of it and still looks good. For me all that is a bit to much. My first thing is to get four more 20 rounders, got to feed the beast. Canik offers night sights so that would be next. I like your mag weld device it adds to the weapons looks and its a great addition for faster mag reloads. I will get a hologram mini. Sometime later. There no competition in my future but very much like longer barrel pistols to give my 147gr HP more velocity and of course better accuracy. I go hunting and exploring alot in our wilderness so I am always armed with a long gun and pistol not really for four legged creatures.
Are you able to send the slide in to someone who could maybe refinish it for you? I was hoping that would be a possibility. I'd love to be able to send mine in once it's looking a lil beat up like yours and have it sent back to me in maybe a different color all together. It would be badass if your slide matched the color of your trigger.
I could, and I've had a similar thought about trying to match the trigger, but it's not super high on my priority list. She's a workhorse, not a looker.
Is your front sight height .375 as you stated or .275? I am looking into this same sight set up and Dawson suggests .285 - .300 with the Glock adj rear sight
Just went back and checked my confirmation email from Dawson Precision and I'm using the 0.375" tall front sight. You're right, the rear sight does recommend the .285 - .300. Two possible explanations are 1) the sights aren't being installed on a Glock, and maybe the Canik has different geometry between the barrel and top of the slide, and 2) my shots with the factory sights were impacting high, so it may be a fluke of me or my particular gun that required a higher front sight. I'm not a sight expert, so if there's any question in your mind I'd say buy the rear sight, adjust it to the middle of its range and shoot it with the factory front sight at 15 yards. Then take your target and a set of callipers and head to the sight calculator on Dawson Precision's website. It may take a little more time, but you'll know you're ordering the right front sight.
I'd be surprised if the it didn't work. The rear sight also has a significant amount of adjustment, so as long as it's in the ball park you should be able to dial it in. Best of luck!
I believe Taylor Freelance did recently introduce a magwell for the TP9 elite variants. I don't have an Elite, so I can't confirm it works with your model, but it's worth looking into. I think it's the Elite Carry Magwell.
Hi, thanks! My rear sight isn't a stock Glock sight. It's an aftermarket sight from Dawson Precision. The SKU for the part from their website is 017-013. Here's a link as well. dawsonprecision.com/dawson-precision-glock-adjustable-rear-sights/
From what I understand it's mostly related to heat. I only noticed mine started flaking after I left it in the glove box on more then a few hot summer days.
that should be replaced under warranty, it's a horrible flaw that although doesn't affect performance, it may have a long term effect on durability but it sure does look like crap. I'd probably buy a Walther instead just because of that.
I've wanted this gun for a while and finally bought it. I normally shoot a Dan Wesson 1911. I dont notice much of a difference between this guns trigger break and my 1911. Its a little heavier, maybe a lb, but just as crisp. The only reason I'd replace the trigger is the uptake is a lot. I will do the springs right away. I have large hands so I'll probably look at hogue for a grip wrap. Great review, and remember, 100 ounces in a pound
Thanks for the comment and the chuckle. I haven't had the pleasure of shooting a Dan Wesson, but I've wanted to and I've heard good things about them. I think you're spot on with the trigger. The spring upgrades are cheap, and will improve the pull weight. If you really want a less travel in the trigger, the Freedomsmith is the solution for that. Again, thanks for the thoughts!
Yeah! They're Talon Grips. I'm not a big fan of sandpaper textures, so I'm running the rubber variant. They make a grittier texture as well if that's more your speed. I think I paid somewhere around $20 for them, and they do remove with very little residue if you ever need to take them off. I used a hair dryer to apply them, and they've been rock solid for me. I know I'll have to replace them eventually, but for the price of a box of ammo, I'm not going to sweat that.
I tried the talon rubber grips and to me it felt like slicker than stock. I went with and paper grips and love the feel. Not for carry gun. Cause it would not be comfy against your waist. But for a comp pistol Holy moly I love it.
I probably should have addressed it in this video too, but I'd already covered the magwell and magazine extensions in a previous video. Long story short, they're from Taylor Freelance, and I highly recommend both if your division allows them.

There's a decent amount of aftermarket support for them but the stock Canik TP9sfx is probably much better than other brands costing much more they perform pretty good even stock the gun is better than 90 percent of handguns sold and I'm not considering 1800-3000+ dollar custom 1911s-2011s other than a good 1911 that has a tuned trigger nothing l know of will touch a Canik TP9SFX with a freedomsmith trigger and it's billet and under 80 dollars the quality of it for the cost is very good so is the outcome after installed a average person can afford it l got my SFX without the RMR optics for 460 dollars with tax and call in included
Great Video. For my Canik SFX, I recently ordered a TF weight kit (Back strap, 3 mag extensions and mag well flare, plus 1 extra mag extension all brass) with custom Ceracote. I plan on mounting a Holosun 507K on it, (Love Holosun circle dots) however I understand some modification of the optic is involved. I'm planning on competing, and I could tell the gun would benefit from some extra vertical mass. Got a Red X holster; seems like a good entry level holster. Tungsten guide rod looks pretty cool. Gonna wait on the trigger mod, but I do have the safety plunger spring ready to replace.
I think I might just rub the rest of the finish off, it seems you are liking the piece in general, in your place I would rub it off, I think there are some decent diy refinish things out there . I was really commenting to say cool sights , I’m going to have to copy you on that I think, and thanks for all the info on this complete, it seems I sort of inherited one, I wasn’t going to keep it, but I keep seeing all this positive content on it.
The stock trigger is awesome but with the freedomsmith trigger installed it's the absolute best striker fired trigger l ever felt l didn't do the grip tape on mine but l did do the freedomsmith trigger Galloway guide rod and spring and night fision yellow green sights l also have a Walther PPQ navy 9mm that is stock the SFX with a stock trigger are equal in trigger pull weight and reset but since l put the freedomsmith trigger in the SFX it has removed 50 percent or more of the trigger take up it is noticeable trigger pull weight is now 3.5 pounds compared to just under 5 for the Walther l absolutely love both your going to love the SFX l sold my Springfield XDM 5.25 that had a 165 dollar trigger upgrade to get the SFX and the SFX had a better trigger stock than the XDM did with the 165 upgraded trigger there is no comparison with the freedomsmith trigger installed it was the best decision ever selling the XDM and replacing it with the SFX if you get the sights adjusted it is very very accurate mine has also been extremely reliable so far
I am trying to decide between the Galloway guide rod and spring or the Sprinco kit. Not sure what the differences are. What ammo can you shoot with the Galloway spring?
@@disco4535 l don't know much about sprinco but l have a 22 pound spring and guide rod from Galloway precision the gun comes stock with a 19 pound spring and l shoot factory 115 grain ammo and so far with the 22 pound guide rod it's been flawless with no reliability issues so far with 300 rounds through it it took some of the recoil out of it not that it had a lot before with the stock spring but it seems to be on target faster with follow up shoots with the 22 pound spring for me but remember someone else may totally disagree with my opinion
I have to get my hands on one before i can start upgrading the whole pistol. I just want the pistol to be my self defense pistol and my home defense as well. I will probably buy the sights and biy a few magazines and call it a day
I would be concerned that the base coat or the banking however Sarah coating is done it's going to be defective in more areas of your gun than just what you happen to find. And it comes off that easy there's probably a corrosion concern but you're right it doesn't impede the function of the gun yet
Great information, thank you for making the video and sharing. I'm looking to buy a rival or tps sfx cant decide. Gotta get my hands on a canik to see how it feels
Where do you get the brass back strap and mag well?
I ordered them from the Taylor Freelance website.
I included links for every part in the video description for anyone interested. If you have any experiences or questions about upgrading the TP9 SFx, feel free to share them in the comments!
thank you
No problem!
@@LongTermReviews can I use the wolf 1911 commander spring you have linked in the description on the stock guide rod? or do I have to get an after market rod? Thanks!
The stock guide rod should be a captive spring. I wouldn't recommend attempting to swap springs out on the factory recoil spring assembly.
@@LongTermReviews Thanks. I'll try to run it with the glock striker spring and the stock recoil assembly and if it does not work then I'll order a new guide rod.
Where did you find the matching color flared mag well? I’ve looked on the Taylor Freelance website and all I saw was either a shiny silver or black.
I need to find the canik tp9sfx whiteout edition somewhere
Good luck! I'm not sure where to point you, but maybe somebody else will chime in. You might check some of the resale websites like gunbroker and armslist, depending on how desperate you are.
If you aren't too picky about the factory finish you could always get a standard colored model and have it cerakoted.
SILK334 all over gunbroker
I have one, found it at a shoot smart gun range. Went there looking for the regular one found that by surprise. I'm happy with my purchase. I'm definitely interested in making sum of these upgrades mentioned in the video
When I took my concealed carry class there was the instructor and two other students besides myself. Neither the instructor or other students could fathom why I would make any changes to any gun, no matter that I explained that I had many guns for different reasons. It always came back the same to them ~ " What if you have to use it for self-defense? " . To them that was the only purpose possible I guess.
I’ll buy upgrades when I can find freaking mags!
Walther PPQ m2 9mm mags work if it helps you to locate some.
Would you recommend the Freedom Smith trigger if I plan on daily carrying?
I wish they made those triggers in shiny chrome.
Thanks for the video. Well thought out !
Great Video !!! Super Helpful. Thank You for doing it..
Glad you liked it!
Do you have any videos showing the install of the trigger?
Also, is that the talon grip?
Not a fan of the blackout rear sight. Looking at the Tritium Pro
I have the same pistol and trigger. But mine is purple.
Are you able to send the slide in to someone who could maybe refinish it for you?
I was hoping that would be a possibility. I'd love to be able to send mine in once it's
looking a lil beat up like yours and have it sent back to me in maybe a different color
all together. It would be badass if your slide matched the color of your trigger.
I could, and I've had a similar thought about trying to match the trigger, but it's not super high on my priority list. She's a workhorse, not a looker.
Would this work on the elite models?
I swapped mine out for an M&P 9
What is on your grip tape? Stock?
Long Term Reviews my SFX is set up exactly as yours is so I am sure the results will be very similar
I'd be surprised if the it didn't work. The rear sight also has a significant amount of adjustment, so as long as it's in the ball park you should be able to dial it in. Best of luck!
How can i buy a magwell for my Canik TP9SF Elite?
I believe Taylor Freelance did recently introduce a magwell for the TP9 elite variants. I don't have an Elite, so I can't confirm it works with your model, but it's worth looking into. I think it's the Elite Carry Magwell.
Where did you get the magwell?
I ordered it from Taylor Freelance.
Hello, great video what model Glock is the rear sight from. Thanks
Hi, thanks!
My rear sight isn't a stock Glock sight. It's an aftermarket sight from Dawson Precision. The SKU for the part from their website is 017-013. Here's a link as well. dawsonprecision.com/dawson-precision-glock-adjustable-rear-sights/
Thanks!
Never baby a gun. Beat hard!
Where did you purchased the Tungsten Guide Rod?
I bought it from W74 Guiderods. w74guiderods.com/product/canik-tp9sfx-guide-rod/
@@LongTermReviews The Wolff recoil spring you used is the Colt Commander Spring that is sold as a 45 ACP recoil spring, correct?
How do I keep my from flacking like yours?
From what I understand it's mostly related to heat. I only noticed mine started flaking after I left it in the glove box on more then a few hot summer days.
that should be replaced under warranty, it's a horrible flaw that although doesn't affect performance, it may have a long term effect on durability but it sure does look like crap. I'd probably buy a Walther instead just because of that.
Don't put masking tape on it.
@@LongTermReviews If your ever in Ct, lmk. We'll go shoot both
Sounds great! I'll do it if I'm ever out that way.
The only thing this gun can be compared to a DW 1911 would be the length of break cause they are not even in the same ball park.
@@quincygillespie5950 shot a DW competitively for years. I do believe I know what the differences are
What about the grip? Is that grip tape or?? I like the look and I’m sure it’s comfortable
@@LongTermReviews wher did you order you Talon Grips.
I just ordered them off Amazon for convenience. You should be able to find them by searching "Talon Grips Canik" with very little trouble.
You missed the description on the mag well flare??
I probably should have addressed it in this video too, but I'd already covered the magwell and magazine extensions in a previous video. Long story short, they're from Taylor Freelance, and I highly recommend both if your division allows them.
@@LongTermReviews yes it’s allowed, the site is kinda not straight forward so I had a bit of an issue navigating the items for this particular gun and how to put certain things in the cart to jazz this one up
What happened to the slide? It looks like the paint is rubbing off.
taped it and stuck in a vice to put front sight on
Where did you buy the magwell from?
Taylor Freelance. I bought it as part of their weight kit, but they offer it as a standalone product as well.
The tp9sfx is already front heavy I wouldn't want anymore weight to the front
Let's see you do a LBS test on that... I am willing to bet you will not beat the factory trigger
My SFx trigger breaks at 1lb 12oz...fairly sure that’s a bit lighter than factory. :)

How do you replace the trigger return spring?
I just used a dental probe to hook one end and pull it off. If I recall, I did this while the trigger was disconnected from the action bar, so it was pretty easy to relieve the pressure on the spring and manipulate it freely.
You don't.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did the complete upgrade cost you?
Sure.
I didn't track what I paid at the time, but current pricing for all upgrades shown, including the brass grip hardware and Talon grips and excluding shipping costs, is right around $500. The sights alone are over $100 for the set, and the current price for the brass backstrap and 3 baseplates from Taylor Freelance is around $200. The trigger and tungsten guide rod make up the bulk of the rest, with the springs costing less than $20 total.
Hope that helps!

It's the rubber texture Talon Grip. I don't like the feel of really rough things, so I opted for the rubber texture over their grippier skateboard deck texture.

I got one new TP9SFX when they 1st came out and had a few issues with failure to eject (using blazer brass 115 grain). I contacted Canik and they mailed me out the lighter spring for my guide rod and it has worked flawlessly going on 3 years or longer now.

Since the Trigger is unavailable and not GOING to be available for a very long time, if anyone has one, in their gun and not using it, or have a spare they are willing to sell, HIT ME UP.
Thanks for your comments but I totally disagree.
I got one, and man, it failed to much. :(
What ammo? They are setup for 9mm NATO and not 9mm Luger. 9mm Nato is hotter by a decent margin.
That's strange, i've put about 1500 rounds since I got it 2 years ago and only one malfunction in the first 100. Though I was using 124 grain instead of 115.
I bought mine about 3 mo ago and the newer ones come with different springs in them to accommodate 115gr box ammo. I haven't had a problem shooting 115gr, but I mostly do shoot the 124gr. Only mod I have is the lighter plunger spring. The take-up is softer, and the wall becomes more pronounced. But the break and pull weight are not changed.
@@rched2 even of that's true....that should NOT be an issue...name one 9mm that wasn't a hi point or Taurus that couldn't feed and fire both. No gun over $250 should have that as an issue in this century
