You're raising your kid the right way!! He's going to be so much more engaging, sympathetic and open minded than a lot of us are because you're exposing him to such contrasting environment at such young age. Everyone who has the capacity to do this should raise their kids the similar way. Cheers!

Yes those are the same prawns, don't worry. It's completely safe.
They lose their size because they're pierced by a skewer on three sides and roasted. Even chicken and mutton shrink in this process, so you don't have anything to worry about.

As you are pushing the food into your mouth with your thumb while eating with your hand, also apply a slight bit of suction to the food to get as much into your mouth as possible before gravity takes over. Not so much suction that it ends up in your lungs, just enough to help it along into your mouth.

Ah the larger sleeper boat with a kitchen and a maid would be the best option. They cook a decent meal ( need to have the tali/sadhya with the fried fish and fish curry).
The thing that you had was a smaller thali, it has all the many Thorans. Beans, yellow Moreau or pollicheri, sambar etc.
    1) Appam (curved rice spongy flatbread) and chicken curry (I have seen the Christians eating this)
    2) Kerala Fish Curry and rice
    3) Malabari Fish Roast
    4) Lamb/Beef Fry and Parotta (keep the second item on the DL, just mention how great the porotta meat combo is)
    5) Malabar chicken curry and kalappam
    6) fish cutlets (usually the Christians have it), similar to fish cakes but with spices
    7) Lamb curry
    8) Thattakada Chicken Fry
    9) polichathu and rice
    10) masala dosa
    11) Chili beef (spicy, different versions)
    12) chicken roast
    13) Idiyappam and egg curry
    14) Kerala Prawn curry and pithari
    15) many fish fry (pearl spot, mackerel, anchovies, sardines, pomfret
    16) Puttu - Kadala Curry
    17) Erissery or pumpkin and lentil Curry
    18) Cheera Thoran and rice and dal curry, green bean thoran
    19) semiya payasam or paal payasam
    20) chicken 65
    21) fried squid rings
    Visit:
    Munnar tea estates
Wayanad mountain areas (you can trek up it, and watch the sunrise (4-5am), but be careful as you have a young one, your above the clouds)
    Ayurveda treatments
    Jatayu
    Kalaripayattu
    Athripali waterfall
Padmanbhaswamay temple ( you can only visit the outside)
    Jew Town
old churches prior to euro invasions
Portuguese landing and the old churches and architectures
    Padmanabhapuram Palace
    Kovalam beach
    Azhimala temple by Kovalam beach
Take a spice tour in Thekkady and check the elephants
Wayanad - Visit A Coffee Plantation
Kochi full day Christian heritage tour

Yeah. Those are the same prawns. The difference is that the uncooked version are laid out straight and the cooked version are rolled up so that the skewer can penetrate at 3 or more points along the prawn's body. This allows the prawn to be presented to the heat source, likely a large frying pan with some oil, in such a way that the prawns cook evenly on that one side. The skewered prawns are then flipped over to allow the other side to be cooked evenly as well. This does not take longer than a minute or so per side.
The masala that is smeared on and rubbed into the prawns is a much drier paste than a marinade. The paste is able to stick to the prawn, whereas a marinade would simply drain off and leave the prawn meat unflavored.
They know how to cook. You don't. Stop presuming you are being scammed in a situation that you know nothing about. You could have gotten up off of your ass and asked to go film the cooking process, be it your serving or some other guest's serving of prawn or whatever, for your self assurance and a better video for your viewers.
Don't presume that the locals are the same types of crooked cooks as those you are used to back at the fake pulled-out-of-a-freezer-poured-out-of-3-tins-and-a-cardboard-box "curry" houses at home.
Do you really think these people can afford to poison their guests, the vast majority of whom are locals, and still remain in business? Killing off, or even just planting on porcelain for three days, your potential return guests, is hell of a business model, don't you think?

Well thats how you eat it with hands. I think I mentioned that before. But you must be a pro now. Eating naan or roti is easier with hand to break it in the exact size as you can eat at once. But I have seen people breaking it in only two parts. For Dahl or gravy based dishes some round up like a cone. The unspoken rule is the bread should break with one hand otherwise considered as not cooked completely. And you do not leave any foodgrain behind like you do in West. Its the other way around in India
