    Here in Canada we are so far behind the UK when it comes to products for koi ponds, especially filtration, that I had never heard of a drop-in drum filter for a Nexus until I saw your video. Looking forward to seeing your review on how it's performing over the next few weeks/months.

    My only issue is that my nexus is outside to the elements so will be interested how to do the lid.

      Thanks for the lovely comment. It’s much appreciated. Really appreciate you supporting the channel. I have a number of friends using the drop in that have there nexus outside. They have simply used a large waterproof cover. (Bit like a bbq cover) They’ve also covered their pipework with insulation 👍🏼👍🏼

      I’ll keep you posted on results. I’d love a big flash combi unit but sadly, until my lotto numbers come up or with plenty of saving, it’s just not an option. The fact that you literally just “drop it in” is a result too. Hope you have a top weekend 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

      Hiya buddy. The key changes from what I have noted in looking to get one (I was very skeptical like you) The new motors will be external, different pressure switch on water inlet, stronger/supports on chassis, different lid and slightly different feet. So far (touch wood) all is good. Will keep everyone posted 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    I'm also looking at how this upgrade improves water quality/clarity. My 20 year old Nexus 300 has had a couple of upgrades. The first was to replace the Answer with an Eazy and I've just changed the media in the static bed from the original Kaldness to K1 Micro. I decided at the same time to apply the secret £7.95 upgrade as well ! Bonnet de Douche

    • @edenkoipond

      Hopefully the mid is working ok for you? That filter has certainly paid for itself though! Thanks for watching the video 😊👍🏼

    • @DwayneDibley-xv5ef
      @DwayneDibley-xv5ef 11 місяців тому

      I’ve bitten the bullet and purchased the drop in. The £7.95 upgrade has caused the Easy to block after 2-3 days. I’m getting that black slime remains of blanket weed peeling off the sides and the fish have been eating it. I’m told this can be caused by a certain type of blanket weed control so I may try something different come the summer.

    • @edenkoipond
      @edenkoipond  11 місяців тому

      The black stuff definitely sounds like the remnants of algae. Black and slimy. Don’t be tempted to sweep the sides, just let it do it’s own thing naturally. Keep me posted with the drop in and if you’ve got any questions just shout 👍🏼

      @@edenkoipond Getting close to the big installation day. The Nexus used a pump fed waste which had to be changed so I've dug a sump, sunk a plastic bin and installed a submersible pump with a float switch. I now need to get a mains water feed to the filter shed. I see the easiest way would be to get an outside tap fitted to the house and run a standard garden hose. Then once under cover, switch to 15mm Speedifit. I also intend to fit a float valve to the inlet to top up when I've cleaned out the Tempest. Any issues with this do you think ?

    Should have picked a second hand oase compact m there are a few on ebay right now it would be better if you spend 1300 pound on the draco would have been around the same price or cheaper people ate closing pond alot this year its the best time to pick a second hand drum😂

    • @edenkoipond
      @edenkoipond  Рік тому

      I wouldn’t touch a 2nd hand compact-M, especially if it has the old motor type. I know many dealers with many Oase motor grave yards. Compact-M is my end goal but I really want it to be a new one. 👍🏼

    • @Devilmaycry138
      @Devilmaycry138 Рік тому

      @@edenkoipond you seem to overthink things too much whats to say the new ones wont break and also a new motor is 400 pounds if it burns change it and job done, buy the things you want now as life is too short it just dont make sense to me to spend the money on a draco rather than hold off and spend another 600 pound on top and get the oase, unless you got the draco dirt cheap but at the end of the day its your money but oase are good drums so buying second hand would not be a worry for me and the stories your heard from dealers are because dealers run the compacts on over stocked ponds as they are too cheap to buy a drum sized up for their ponds thats why they have problems.

    • @edenkoipond
      @edenkoipond  Рік тому

      I know several people with Oase drums that have needed new motors and other bits. For me, I’d rather save/wait until I can afford a new one 👍🏼 I didn’t get it dirt cheap, slightly cheaper only in sale. I’m over a month now and the things been faultless. The want for a new Oase is slowly disappearing into the back of my mind and I am content 👌🏼

      Assuming the old ones had their faults. This things been bang on. I was really skeptical when buying as it’s a lot of money but, so far, I’ve had no issues. Waters been nice and clear and the units not given me any hassle. I will continue to monitor a review honestly. 👍🏼

    READ THIS DAVE. I have had my two Draco's for three years now. Two points Dave, GET A WATER METER on the Draco line, you will not believe how much water they drink, especially if you are on a mains meter. When i started my one went off every 10 minutes, now 3 years later and slightly different setup it is going off every 25 minutes. I only have it on setting one at the main drum, only needs setting one as the main drum will rotate and clean more than ½ a revolution of the sieve. Point no 2 -- we have a lot of water snails and they regularly trap themselves under the float switch, jamming it open so the Nexus runs dry -- beware. Best of luck, watch all your vids. If you need more info or pictures I can supply them. Abientot!! Ken

    • @edenkoipond
      @edenkoipond  Рік тому

      Nice bit of French there 😬 Thanks for the info, all points I’d picked up from other owners too. The new style float switches seem to work well. Thankfully, I’m insect free (at the moment) but will keep an eye out. I’ve spent the weeks really dialling it in and will do an update on ownership. I treated for blanket weed and cleans dropped to 20 mins. I’m now back up to nearly an hour in the night and between 38-46 minutes during the day. I have mine set on 0.5 for the cleans so 15 seconds it washes for. Assuming your the same at setting 1?
