@@EV-EV-EVin the early years of islam very few people memorized the quran but lots of people knew it's meaning. There will come a time when there will be lots of Hafiz ul quran, and very few will in reality understand the meaning of Allah's Word.. May Allah guide us

He did take a page if not a whole book off Sh Deedat style of daawah, I’m not sure about him being a driver, Deedat spent most of his time in South Africa, Zakir lived in India at that time: therefore, I don’t know how Zakir could’ve been his driver. Dr Zakir naik himself said that he got inspired by him and he was the turning point of his life. I have seen Zakir listening and taking notes to some of the Sh Deedat talks on UA-cam. Zakir also asked Sh Deedat if he could give another talk after the 1987 talk Deedat gave, so that he could soak up some of his knowledge. So no, Zakir did not learn all he knows from his “own research” not saying everything but for the most part, the style of daawah that Zakir naik is doing today is from Sh Ahmed.

I think ‘understanding’ of the Quran is of utmost importance than memorising it. With 7000 languages in the world, most can’t follow Arabic. Even most ‘Hafiz’ you come across they memorise it but do not know what what ‘The Book of law for the whole humanity’ says.

True! Allah (swt) mentions in the Qur'an that He sent down this Book in Arabic so that you understand.
Memorizing is not the purpose of the Book, the purpose is actually understanding the message!

Allah uses their brains as storage of Quran verses
hundreds millions of people trying to memorize Quran since the time of Rasulullah ﷺ but just few millions can memorize

Not graduated from any Islamic institutions but has done a much greater work than 98% of the scholars in Islam (due to a very wide field of knowledge). Dr Zakir Naik has even memorised books which are in the same category as Hadiths (Sayings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) in Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism. Although he doesn’t see himself as a Islamic Scholar he sure has knowledge higher than the status of a Scholar where people are afraid of debating/arguing with him. May Allah ﷻ reward him for his work🙏🏼💙
