  • Hi Everyone,
    👋 👋 👋
    Here is the initial ride review of the 2022 Triumph Rocket 3R! 🚀
    Although this bike isn't a super practical bike, I don't think it's pretending to be!
    It's great fun, it's a bit silly and it does NOTHING but turn heads!!!
    Let me know if you've ridden one and what you think or if you have plans to ride it in the future!
    Thanks Guys!

    A perfect example of what makes this channel such a joy to watch: The tech talk is informed and analytical in a practical way. The overall tone is down to earth but also always positive and celebrating life, even under adverse weather conditions or on bad road surfaces. Furthermore the bantering and little jokes tell of a bright mind through which more then only petrol flows. And then there are the quick pickups ( Oh, what a nice coloured house!). Like a puppy on a leash. You can take me for a ride any time, Kate! 😁

    I've had the R for two years, covered 13,000 miles. 2,000 of those miles were done on tour in Spain, mostly on the twisties of the Pyrenees. I'm 6ft and 105kg and I found the seat comfortable but lacking space to move around, especially fore and aft.I was managing around 200 miles a day and at the end of the trip my lower back was starting to feel a little uncomfortable. Easy answer was to do less miles each day. Averaged 45mpg which surprised me, here in the UK I'm averaging around 40 mpg. The pegs touch down fairly easily when pushing on but never upset the bike, just a reminder that it has its limitations.I've found it a very rewarding ride. It's big, it's a few kilo's heavier than a GSA and it's BLOODY GOOD FUN.
    Good luck with your channel. Forgot to mention, take it out in the wet and it covers itself and you in muck. Easy bike to wash though.

    Hey Kate I've got the GT. Great review, think you did the bike justice. You're right about the riding position on tbe Gt, it's a lot easier with the bars swept back a little although the controls are more forward. Had mine as a daily for 8 months or so and still makes me smile every ride.

    Hey, Kate, I test-rode a Mk1 Roadster in 2010. I loved it and wanted to buy it. I didn't do it and 12 years later, I'd like to buy a Rocket 3 R. The old bike was 40 kg heavier but it didn't feel heavy, due to the extremely low centre of gravity. I'm 6'1'' and 14 stones so this bike would fit me fine. The thing is, is that it's probably too much for the roads here in northern Thailand. But what the heck, I want one. As you say, they are civilised going through town.
    Great to see a woman test-riding this bike, and I don't mean to sound patronising when I say that.

    Hi Kate, I met a guy on the Gower Coast, near Swansea once, must be at least 14 years ago, who had the previous model. He was as old then as I am now, and had a turntable in his garage, so as to be able to manhandle it out of there. A real monster thing this - a bit like my ex mother-in-law, but with a much nicer sound track.

    I've been lucky enough to ride both the R and GT. It's a great bike, the quick shift is great up and down the gearbox. The balance is also really good making a super heavy bike easy to control and ride. I preferred the R foot peg position to the GT although you do get used to the GT forward position after a short while. As for the seating position and bars I'm 6' and the bars are still a reach even for me especially when on full lock turning round for eg and I'm fully in the seat. Handles well, super acceleration which I loved. Quick enough for UK roads, great on the A483 from Cross Gates to Newtown in Wales, It rode like a big sports bike. I'd have one in my garage if I could afford one. Great Vlog glad you liked it.

    Great review Kate, as an R owner I did take some time to get used to the bike's bulk, especially in low speed maneuvers. The beauty of the Rocket is you can mix and match bar and peg positions (like putting mid pegs on a GT or GT bars on an R) to overcome any ride position foibles. I am a little more ape-like, so my reach to the R bars is fine. With the wriggles you found at low speeds, had your loan bike had its suspension adjusted? From the factory they are pretty wound out, and there is zero preload on the rear shock. When you dial it in it is much better... It's a shame you didn't get to sample the quickshifter, it turns the bike into a drag strip monster, soooo good! You should find one and give it a whirl. :-)

    The one thing sort of fun to add here is about the weight in a strong wind. I had a 1700 Yamaha Midnight Star at 750 pounds (340 Kg) .. Wild winds did not upset the stability of that bike and I am sure the low slung weight on that mammoth triple is the same . I like having a lighter bike for most back road riding but I miss a heavy bike in a stormy wind . If I ever make it to the Lakes and am riding south I think I want to find your Rivington .What a beautiful ride .. So glad you have used it a bit ..

      I don't know about the GS part, but my PTB would never stay connected to my iPhone or Garmin either. I took it back to the retailer and with a bit of testing, figured out it had a defective base-plate. He swapped the base-plate for a new one and it has been perfect ever since. I remember being so incredibly frustrated by it not working and should've taken it in sooner, haha.

      With my height the rocket plays like a moped, if you're watching me from behind you can guess which Massive Wagons song I'm listening to. It's a totally different beast to anyone under 6 foot. When you're riding it, it looks like Batman's bike. When I'm riding it people stop and wonder what sort of moped looks like that (then they hear it).

    Hi Kate, I have a Rocket 3 R (Black Limited Edition) and am very pleased with it. The seat supports you against the insane acceleration if you touch the back part, not the tank. Because the reach to the handlebar is too long for you, you should ideally switch it with the GT's handlebar. The GT's seat (lower, puts you further back) and forward mounted pegs may however not suit you.

    • @UsernameKate
      @UsernameKate  2 роки тому +1

      I know, I wish I could sit in the seat as intended but then it's too much of a stretch. I can't alter the bars on a demo bike as its not my personal bike. I've ridden with forward controls on a harley before and enjoyed them but I'd like to try it on the GT definitely 😊

    • @stefanosserefoglou6540
      @stefanosserefoglou6540 2 роки тому +1

      Sure, test ride a GT to find out - ideally on video comparing it to the R :)
      I only sat on a GT and found the forward controls too weird. They are ostensibly more comfortable for long rides and tall riders. I'm of average height, used to normal naked bike controls for 13 years and appreciate better handling (more weight on the pegs, more lean angle, better grip on the tank with the knees), thus prefer the R's mid controls.

    I would love to ride the bike, but you know the score Kate, unless it's got a gear changer on the handlebars I'm test riding absolutely nothing, but you handled it great, it goes to show you can ride almost any bike no matter how small you are, personally i really like the look of the bike, but I'll stick with the harley, 131flb torque does the job for me. 👍😎
