Rasic has better statistics in the top international tournaments. Yan Ni is more impressive in blocking, and a perfect fit in team China. FIVB will say Rasic is better and team China will say Yan Ni better. For the fans, it depends.
Yanni is bigger and more physically imposing so she has a heavier hand on blocks and attacks while Rasic is nimbler and I would say quicker thinking and reacting in chaotic situations. Rasic relies more on perfect form, cleverness, and efficiency in movement rather than on strength alone. Yanni is older and seems to be in less good physical condition as she is heavily taped up. I noticed that the coach needs to rest her more often whilst Rasic seems like she is better conditioned and can stand a longer shift. Emotionally while I love Yanni’s fire, it seems that if she made a mistake, she can get more flustered and down on herself easily, whereas Rasic can use her humor to offset her mistakes and bounce back faster. Either way I love both players, they are good examples of different types of middle blockers and both have admirable points.
