This was one of the first songs I heard on UA-cam. I remember it being the first piece of music I heard that moved me, because of that experience I started to listen to music i liked- not just whatever my mum liked or what played on the radio. I must have been around 13 or 14. I soon discovered I could regulate my emotions with music, something until then I was never able to do due to my lack of support and (at the time undiagnosed) severe ADHD. As I've grown ive kept coming back here, finding it occasionally burried in one of my thousdands of music playlists over 4 different platforms over many different places in my life. This video is truly is integral to my understanding of myself. I don't know if you still check these comments, if you remember you made this video or even this channel. I don't know who you are or what you're up to. I just want to thank you and let you know about the good you've done in my life and how much your art means to me. I'm now 25 and an artist myself as I've decided to honour the time I spent not being able to understand myself by dedicating myself to expression and the communication of my emotional self to others. I hope to be able to help others find themselves like you had me all those years ago.
This is the most heartwarming comment I have ever received as a musician. This is what keeps me going. Music is such a powerful form. I'm glad that our performance spoke to you for so many years. Feel free to reach out to me. I'd love to see and support your art. www.ruelmorales.com/contact
@@LEE_MILLARD His "Cliffs" contribution is the poem, and it's also written on his headstone. "When a man lies he murders some part of the world" etc. James and Kurt did all the guitars. I suspect the interlude was also James as this song is a tribute to Cliff Burton and James was also learning classical guitar during those years. That style of playing you can hear all over the Black Album (Nothing Else Matters, The Unforgiven).
+28leftbehind I get that. It's such a nice piece, as is the next part at 4:50. Very clean. I use it as a warm up sometimes when I'm about to jam. Really appreciate what these guys have done turning it completely acoustic. I rarely play my acoustic but really envy (in the nicest possible way) what they've done.
When a man lies, he murders some part of the world These are the pale deaths, which men miscall "their lives" All this I cannot bear to witness any longer Cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home?
Cliff wrote the part ..."All of this I cannot bare to witness any longer, cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home?" The first part was written by a poet that Cliff liked, can't remember his name. Yes, I believe in my heart that the kingdom of salvation took him home. Cliff believed and so do I.
Im nearly 40....life long Metallica fan....aside from that you guys captured the true essence of this song...you just need to add Cliffs poem to it to make it perfect! Fantastic job!!!
chiripas12345 Most of the material is actually made before the actual album is released. For example, Dave Mustaine wrote Ride The Lighting's spider chord while he was in Metallica.
So fuckin amazin' ! This deserves a million fuckin views. The lead and the way you pulled the solo on an acoustic... The melody and the amazing collaboration and the strums by the rhythm guitarist!! Oh amazing.
This song is so beautiful, you can never know to what extent you play it the perfection, I have of it to cry so much it is beautiful. Thank you for your cover, you are brilliant I dream to play it in the same way to pay Tribute to Cliff!
4:19...n then the clouds opened up and the Angels wept tears of comfort to bathe the sorrows of men who toil in the eve of dying...under the watchful Eye of the One who commands that someone draw a short straw that only serves him/itself and damn those who harvest the benefits of all our hard work whilst orchestrating the masses to not only fray the ends but obliterate the ends of our sanity...one Nation under the eye of the beholder, indivisible , with Liberty? And Justice? For All?...
Wow just unbelievably amazing! I’m a huge huge Metallica fan and this is my favorite song. I can’t even tell you how much I thoroughly enjoyed that. As a guitarist myself, I can appreciate the difficulty of what you guys were able to do flawlessly! Metallica would be proud!
Incredible! You guys play so seemingly effortless; but at the same time, you get the brilliant subtleties and play in conjunction so magnificently! EXCELLENT!
It don't matter the artists that play Metallica music, but I love Metallica, even more love when they don't use lyrics. It really makes the genius of their music come to life. they're music will be like the music of Bach.
Men, you did it! The most perfect acoustic version of one masterpiece of our generation! I wonder if I will hear a new "To Live is to Die" or "The Call of Ktulu" or "Orion" or "Anesthesia" before I die. It seems hopeless, but looking at you playing this shit, guys, makes me feel that is possible! God bless you! Hail Metallica!
7:38 When a man lies He murders some part of the world. These are the pale deaths in which men miscall their lives. All this I cannot bear to witness any longer. cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home?
This is one of my favorite Cliff Burton arrangements. You guys really put in the work and played with feeling and respect for the original piece. I'm truly impressed.
Wow, just wow... Thank you guys so very much for a kind of hommage to Cliff - I hope he listens to this somewhere out there with a grin stating his neverending amusement.
7:35 When a man lies he murders some part of the world These are the pale deaths which men miscall their lives All this I cannot bear to witness any longer Cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home

Did you hear this version?
ua-cam.com/video/IQjrh8sAkIo/v-deo.html
i wish i would see james hetfield play this intro for once.
wish id see him just playing a whole show of all his acoustic melodies.
michi k kirk wrote it tho
Thought it was cliff, his last contribution to tallica, he garda writing cred on that song
@@LEE_MILLARD His "Cliffs" contribution is the poem, and it's also written on his headstone. "When a man lies he murders some part of the world" etc. James and Kurt did all the guitars. John Stratton still did a good job doing that 🤣
@Metallicaleb Kirk did
4:19 the part that makes me cry while listening to original To Live Is To Die. Good job guys, for real.
+28leftbehind same dude. One of the most emotional things I've ever heard in metal.
+28leftbehind Word
+28leftbehind I get that. It's such a nice piece, as is the next part at 4:50. Very clean. I use it as a warm up sometimes when I'm about to jam. me too
+28leftbehind I agree. I think they should have used a cello for the bass solo but it worked.
5:48 is probably the best guitar solo ever written by metallica and if I'm not mistaken was written and played by hetfield...
So beautiful. Amazing job guys!
Yes it absolutely is......did you check out his cover of Orion?\m/
4:21 chills all over the place
It's you!!! I loved your 99 Metallica songs in 10 minutes.
More like 4:47
Cr33p3rKid Yeah, thanks mate! Make sure you check the rest of them; Trivium, Machine Head, Megadeth and my latest one Slipknot! Cheers

When a man lies, he murders some part of the world
These are the pale deaths, which men miscall "their lives"
All this I cannot bear to witness any longer
Cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home?
RIP Clifford Lee Burton
matiax pereyra
RIP cliff
Who wrote those lyrics...... plz someone tell me
Oh dude... 😪
Sometimes we all forgot how fantastic is this song...thank you guys and Metallica because this is one of the best music ever written.
amazing playing, funny ending - you awesome guys! ))
Funny seeing you here
This version seemed to resist the temptation to make it a Spanish sounding variant. Keeping it closer to the root of the original. Very nicely done
Im nearly 40....life long Metallica fan....aside from that you guys captured the true essence of this song...you just need to add Cliffs poem to it to make it perfect! Fantastic job!!!
That poem isn't Cliff's. It was wrote by someone else.
+Juan Correa The first part was written by somebody else. Cliff wrote the last two lines.
+Thomas Stecklein really? Cliff died before this album was released though. Did he write it before he died?
chiripas12345 Most of the material is actually made before the actual album is released. For example, Dave Mustaine wrote Ride The Lighting's spider chord while he was in Metallica.
Mustaine has a writing credit on Call of Ktulu was well. I think Cliff added on to the poem, and the rest of the band decided to add it into the song.
This was kickass...and definately the most underrated Metallica jam!!!
awesome guys. cliff is watching you and i'm sure he like this.
4:20 Riff... All I need to forever lose my shit..... even 15 years on.
@Gary Borell bro he said the funny number loool laugh

Very nicely done guys. Great job on recreating a great song. I'm sure James and Kirk would love to hear this one.
Wow just unbelievably amazing! I’m a huge huge Metallica fan and this is my favorite song. I can’t even tell you how much I thoroughly enjoyed that. As a guitarist myself, I can appreciate the difficulty of what you guys were able to do flawlessly! Metallica would be proud!
The first guitar solo on this song, imho, is one of the 'best sounding' guitar solos known to mankind. Nicely done here too.
Thank you, brother. I completely agree with you. So melodic.
@@RuelMorales I came back to listen again this morning. Thank YOU!

It don't matter the artists that play Metallica music, but I love Metallica, even more love when they don't use lyrics. It really makes the genius of their music come to life. they're music will be like the music of Bach.
