I would recommend reading the manga. :) I just started watching the anime though, so it may be bias on my part since I haven't completely watched it all (animation looks very nice atm though) but there are obviously going to be changes in this anime adaptation since it is only a limited number of eps. Plus, I'm always a fan of the original material. :)
You should read the manga. It's wonderful. There's a reason why lots of people edit to it. ;) I used to let that reason deter me from reading it, but seriously, don't let things like that deter you from reading a great storyline. :)
