- Here I show you my Spotify analytics and what happened when I used playlist promotion to market my first few Llynks singles. I am an extremely small artist and showing my Spotify analytics is a ~*vulnerable~* thing to do (especially when the numbers are low) BUT I just started releasing music under Llynks this year, so I figured showing you guys where I am now could be helpful!

some are helpful most aren't, I'm doing Facebook ads via toneden at the moment and its helping with growing my followers

My effort with my first single on Spotify was worst than that, 300 pounds spent on playlistpush and as a result zero followers. Facebook ads have worked very well though.
@@lost_valley it happens to all of us!!! Hard to dodge all of the bullets. Fb ads have worked out soo much better for me as well.

You're a breath of fresh air. For a couple hours now I've been flicking through youtube vids looking for musicians' perspectives on having success with Spotify. Almost all of them are trying to sell you their marketing course while themselves having disgraceful analytics, or worse they peaked at 100k monthly listeners a couple years back and they're acting like they're still huge when all their listeners have dried up. I appreciate hearing about your experience in this vid. Thanks for sharing that and I hope your music will grow! It is brutual being an independent musician when there is so much noise out there.

I'm really sorry that things are so tough, I'm a random average person, I'm not connected to the music industry in any way. We don't realise how so much time and effort is necessary to make it work. Great video, I’ve been researching for weeks on how to organically grow my fan base. Definitely an uphill battle and can get pretty discouraging, especially when you believe in your music and know it will take off if you can just figure out how to get it out there.

Thank you for this video! As a note to all musicians out there, stay far away from submithub. It’s just a place for the money-hungry bloggers and playlisters who want to make a quick buck after rejecting your song and giving vague and unhelpful feedback.
submithub is definitely hard to navigate and to make the most out of - if you do use it just MAKE SURE to actually listen to the playlists to see if your music has any chance of fitting in. I've made the mistake of not doing this and getting rejected by absolutely everyone I submitted to.

@@Llynks as far as DIY goes we all we got... sharing experiences is everything. I have gone the playlist route before but my Facebook ads seems to pull in people interested in my content, they follow, I interact with some on IG and we keep moving

Today, Instagram stories showed an ad for your "Become the Root" Spotify album and played a little of "Slow Burn" for the advertisement. My God! it was mind-blowing. I had your whole album on repeat the whole day!

This vid was helpful, I am just starting out, and I understand that no much how good I think my music is, I am not supposed to have thousands or even hundreds of listeners in my first couple weeks lol. I have been rejected A LOT too, and it is depressing. I have had 2 playlist placements, where the playlists have way too many songs in them, and one blog placement which has not posted my music in over 2 weeks since the approval. However this makes the come up feel even more worthwhile.
it is SO HARD when you just start out - you are trying to figure out how to work alongside an algorithm that doesn't want to work with you until you have more engagement with your tracks -which is super hard to get at the beginning when Spotify or whatever isn't pushing them out yet. Rejection will always be there no matter what stage of your career that you are in - just have to love the music yourself and pick yourself back up again after it all haha. It will be soo much sweeter when you get to where you want to be after having been through the struggle for so darn long!!!
This is awesome. We are going down the same path. It’s confusing and overwhelming to figure out the best way to promote. Curious how you’re Facebook promotion goes. We had some success there but probably did it incorrectly since Facebook doesn’t want you to promote “competition” or anything that pulls you out of Facebook.
There has been so many changes to the fb ad platform... I have actually been taking a break from using them to save. Fb ads mostly helped with instagram engagement in my experience

I only really tried things this year, and starting from a hard 0 to fbook ads and networking I'm seeing steady growth, ppl that seem to stick around i think I'm going with ads for now till i get more established. I've watched a lot of videos like this before even trying anything myself. seems playlisting isn't the way to go for new artists, in it for the long haul. nice video! maybe listing will be useful down the road? curious if things are going well with ads still after a few months.
good! For me, in the way I made my ads it worked mainly for engagement on my socials, but in terms of streams I didn't notice any crazy differences. Could have been because of the ads themselves, targeting, a lot of stuff. I"m taking a break from them for a little bit
@@Llynks Nice, I make heavy metal music mostly so its a bit easy to target metal heads, even though its all subjective to what ppl like. Ive been looking into the whole conversions ads and sending folks that are interested to landing pages, seems to grow spotify but nothing recordbreaking for myself just steady. least iknow if they click on the stuff and end up on spotify means there interested and engage afterwards :) all a learning curve for me. DIY for sure tho!

I'm glad to see a Berklee classmate being so consistent with videos. This was a good one! It seems the most successful thing actually was accidentally having music on a highly searched playlist. Do you think it be worth trying again, for let's say an aesthetically similar movie or game, but making it clear that it's an unofficial playlist to not intentionally deceive people? When I was with this promotion company the save rate was very low I believe. I don't remember exactly but I dooo remember save rate plummeted

Interesting!!! I tried playlist promotion and it got me burned! Submithub was just terrible as well: had 100% rejections. I tried some guys on Fiverr but I didnt like a situation where you get thousands of streams and only few followers who don't seem to engage with your content. Furthermore, the streaming numbers would plummet to zero immediately the promotion stops. I have decided to go DIY too with Facebook/Instagram ads and Google Ads but hey it's such a steep learning curve.

The majority of artist I've spoken with complain of the same thing regarding Playlist Companies you get initial streams but then die down after a short time no real followers. It does trigger the algorithm thats the only plus.
yup the algorithm was triggered and it helped for a while until it eventually died down again as well
Right now I see 27,460 monthly listeners on her artist profile. Kind of dark theme your music has. Kinda different, but amazing vocal, soulful. A good stream counts now you have on your tracks, and my feeling is that your fans doesn't stay with you is that people always returning to music can liaten day today, your music is really creative, but not kinda type os songs feel to listen everyday,thats my personal opinion. I am not that of big as you are. But before putting out my things I studied and researching always about which criterias can effect our music to be success.
Update, In your latest music has an improved vibe. However understanding the interest of the listeners is important.
it's all about putting your music in front of the right people. It doesn't matter if it's happy or sad or any other type of music. There's a market for it.

I can't get my music shown to no one for crap. I mean I'm self taught on everything. No music shool or audio training. Idk....I kinda have to fight between two minds when it comes to music. Hey Llynks, just watched this video. I am a curator on Playlist Push myself, but not quite review your genre. I decided to check out your music to see if I could figure out on what fronts you could improve. In your newest track the vocal could pop out a bit more. The instrumental is too loud in the chorus and especially the highs. The vocal feels a bit thin and could be wetter or maybe add more layers. The mixing is quite an important part for the end product, try comparing your track as a whole to other tracks in comparison. // Gotta eat now, I'll check some other tracks afterwards

I really love your sound! I’m listening to toll right now. My biggest things when it comes to releasing is recording. It’s takes so much money lol. Do u record from home or are you able to record all in professional studios? I’m so curious and interested.
streaming services are a handicap for artists that didn't build their audience from the grassroots.. you literally get nothing in exchange other than some ghost listeners (i mean that sincerely).. they made artists focus on the wrong things and turned them into clout and stream demons... but you get nothing of intrinsic value in exchang as the artist... you have no subscriber base... they do, but don't share that subscriber email base with you.. gotta do what they did and just build your subscriber base.. that is the answer plain and simple.. no other way - unless you merely want large streaming numbers that literally can mean jack shit in one streaming week and you be gone as fast as you got to that stream count... PUT IN THE WORKLLYNKS! and an easy simple start would be by adding email capture to the home page of your site - create CREATIVE content and drive traffic to your site and get email addresses in exchange for FREE downloads of your music... you have no email capture on the site at the time of me searching for your music - and you drive that traffic away from your site the minute they land there because you're focused on streams. get out of lala land with the streams crap. put in the work in the simple ways... and get some merch posted on your site as well.. no reason your fans aren't able to purchase a physical product to show support when they like your music - on your site. think bigger! streaming dreams are OVER... and quit paying a PR company. it's pointless - they're all using bots to further rock you to sleep as the artist. playlisting is OVER.. put in the work!
