THIS RUINED PANINI BASEBALL... | 2023 Panini Donruss Baseball Hobby Box Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- With Fanatics take over of the hobby in full swing, Panini has had to overcome some pretty big challenges this past year. The loss of the MLB Player's Association license is simply too much to overcome for them. All Panini baseball moving forward will be prospects and legends only, meaning no active players or superstars (besides call ups) will be featured in any products this year. That's a HUGE problem for products like 2023 Panini Donruss Baseball. My thoughts in today's video!

Monopolies aren't good for this hobby at all. The end.
The outlook is bleak I fear
The alternative to a non monopoly doesn't have to be panini.
I have been saying this since Fanatics got in the licenses. People will regret ever saying Fanatics was good for the hobby. I hope the NHL holds strong.
@Josh Kaufman you do realize Topps still has redemptions right? Over a year later since fanatics bought them and they still have redemptions. Not sure why you think that'll change. Players just aren't signing when they should.
Wish more companies had licenses
I don't care, I like it. The auto's have been generally good too
I listed all my De La Cruz before bed and woke up to it all being sold lol
Did the same. His Base cards were going for 10$+
I've now opened two hobby boxes since I first watched your video, and you couldn't be more wrong about this. This product is lit. I've gotten so many great hits from it that I'm now loaded with great cards to be graded AND for my PC. DE LA CRUZ patch, HOLLIDAY in MARVELS, a WHAMMY OF Jordan Walker, some amazing autos, and that's just a drop in the bucket of some of the great cards I got.
I bought the last hobby box from my nearby hobby store, so I'm gonna have to find some online now instead. This is worth buying for sure❤❤👍
I pulled a Druw Jones auto out of 25 sold it for $100 in minutes.
I love the set. I picked up a hobby box and got a Frank Thomas auto and a Ichiro Whammy. Of course it sucks that current players are not in the set, but there's nothing they can do about that at this point. We know who holds the cards (pun intended). For someone who is a collector and not a seller like myself, I think it's a good buy for about 100 bucks for a hobby box. We can all agree to disagree.
I think $100 is way too much for this. $60 maybe.
I agree 100% with you. I actually enjoyed opening this box, and it had a ton of numbered cards, and bunch of parallels and inserts. I think it’s good value for the price too. I hit a numbered Elly De La Cruz Unleashed which was awesome.
The one thing I did hate was the super thick multiple spacer packs. I thought I had a couple nice relics that turned out to be 2 and 3 spacers in the pack.
The@@TitleTownSportsCards They add spacers so the pack searchers dont pick out the packs with just the relic.
I ripped one box and pulled a 1/1 black unleashed of Elly de la Cruz. Box was worth every penny! It is sad that it doesn’t have active players though
It's a great product. Lots of hits for the price, prospect autos and retired guys. Lots of potential. I know not every hobby is created equal, but so far mine have been more than worth the $100 for the box.
Now for other products, Prizm, Select etc. I'm sad about the loss of the player license.
Cry flippers Cry....Great video....A product a true collector will be able to buy...Flippers dont want them...Money RUINED the hobby!
LOL at this comment. No one is making ANY money holding and/or flipping Panini hobby baseball unless it's FOTL or Flawless. Clueless.
I honestly like the new set its different and awesome to rip seeing old hall of fame players plus the new kids that might take over MLB someday. I know a lot of people don't like Donruss but this season's is cool
Once you get past the fact that there are no active players it is a really fun box to rip. I think they did a good job with what they had to work with. Also a great product for new collectors i.e. Kids. The price point should be lower as you said.
Ichiro is who got me into baseball as a kid and back into collecting as an adult
Can't do this and it is truly sad the Fanatics has the monopoly locked down on the 3 majors.
This set is better than previous years
Thanks for the rip. Ripped a box and sold an auto for $85 in 10 minutes. Made a decent amount from my hobby box.
Man you hit a Jackson holiday auto you got something for sure!
Thanks for the vid! I am (was) a HUGE panini baseball fan just as you are RGL. If you are the number one advocate (which I confirm lol)..then I'm on the podium somewhere alongside you for sure. Nothing more fun than ripping Chronicles or Absolute..or last year's Immaculate. The older Donruss and Diamond Kings...Optic Choice...Prizm..they will be missed!
One of the best sets for value this year. Regardless of the vets! Sold out everywhere!!!!
I agree, target has been sold out online for 3 weeks and big online card stores are charging 200$ a hobby box whereas they were 100$ in April. Elly cards were through the roof in price when he got called up.
I actually like this box. I love getting prospects, and since I'm old, I love old legends as well lol. As long as they bring down the price a bit, I'll buy this for sure!
Not much different than Topps Pro Debut so it’s really not that bad.
We ripped a half a case...it was a lot of fun but NO Hall of Famer autos. Still have half a case...we will sprinkle it in with other things...but I think it could have been worse. Now CBC has the full checklist...some HOFers but I haven't seen them.
I got one of these boxes off Amazon before watching this hopefully won’t regret it😢
Nice James wood auto he’s killing it in the minors future star
I agree completely with you. Flawless and Fotl optic baseball last year were fun products to open. Hope future 2023 Panini baseball products improve but not holding my breath.
At 7:09 why is Nolan Ryan throwing left handed haha.
Done on purpose. 2 variations of the card, reverse and non reverse
An unlicensed product I did like is Leaf In the game used. I got some sweet autos from a box of that.
I got an Awsome 2023 Donruss box it was such a fun rip
No interest in this version.
If they switched to Choice only style products it would be ok. I'm only interested in legends or prospects if it's an auto, sp, or numbered card.
I bought a case and pulled a gold 1/1 auto Elijah Green
I love the old guys- going to get these for sure👍🏻😁
90 donruss is one of the first cards i ever remember getting. will always enjoy the design. autos were good, but yes, still over priced.
I bought 5 card back's for a dollar. (30) got good old cards. black an white. Looking for babe an Garret, cob . Shoeless Joe Jackson that will be nice......
We all are able to learn a lot from watching your videos. Thanks, RGL. Keep up the good work.
Ripped one of these , 3 autos and 1 jersey card , not a baseball guy at all so to me was an awesome rip idk who Al I pulled lol but was decent for me
Prizm Colorblast baseball was a great insert set. RIP 🪦 panini
I have opened 3 boxes of this, and I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. Sorry your box was terrible...
So they can really do some awesome stuff with a legends and hall of famer sets. Just focus the product on those legends. I would definitely buy that!
Sucks because I switched to Optic instead of Chrome a couple years ago, when Topps decided to start gouging people. Now no Optic...I guess will get a couple Chrome blasters, hope they have the $20 MVP redemption again and call it a day for that.
Yea I couldnt believe the retail price for a blaster of chrome, $35
He missed a nolan ryan reverse image short print and a griffey jr reverse image
Dang that’s crazy the Woods auto /25 is only worth $50 considering his prospect pedigree. Agree should be like $50-$60 box at most
This is the review I’ve been waiting for
I luv Flawless, National Treasures, Optic, Prizm. Honestly they do a good job for a fraction of the price compared to football and basketball.
RGL, you are truly professional and fun. You always entertain.
Much love bro,
Peter
I opened a box yesterday, got 3 autos and 2 relics. Got Jacob Berry optic orange auto. #d 85 . You get ton of #d cards . It was a fun rip. We can't all afford $600 boxes
The crazy thing is I just went to the panini apl to buy one and they're sold out so I'm confused if everyone hates it why is it sold out
Panini had to innovate because that innovation was their selling point. Monopolies on the licenses is why we get high prices and stagnant sets. Sad to see the end of competition but I have no sympathy for Panini eventually exiting the hobby.
No love loss for Panini leaving I really wish Upper Deck got to share the licenses. Competition breeds a better product and upper deck made some great products.
I quit buying boxes last year because of redemptions. The closer we get to Fanatics taking over, the higher the chance of those redemptions never being fulfilled. I can't see any reason to buy anything until after Panini is gone because the chances of not getting what you paid for is already ridiculously high with them. I'll take Leaf over this. The thing I found funny about this is that you could open a box of 1991 Donruss and received 1/2 of the same players you got out of this. Thanks for taking the beating so we don't have to.
They didn’t have the MLB license to begin with, they recently lost the MLBPA license, so now all they can make is sets with retired players and prospects. As if Panini baseball wasn’t already bad enough.
So will there be a possible comeback to the active major players for panini baseball?
For everyone that hates the set here is an idea just don't f*cking buy it I know that sounds crazy but just don't buy it hahahaha I mean damn
yeah but people love donruss baseball despite what you might think. there are a lot of disappointed collectors of that set right now.
Panini should have loaded this up with Barry Bonds cards since he hasn't had any in years. Make it over the top
I dumped all my panini baseball in one swoop. Didn’t look back. I still collect basketball and football tho
How much for the mirrored Griffey?
Panini out of baseball? Maybe I won't have to wait 2+ yrs for a redemption. Sorry, their customer service has been terrible each time I've had to deal with it. Logoless design is disturbing. The "not a big Ichiro fan" thing has caused a disturbance in the force.... what?!
I get people are upset that it doesn’t have current players. But for someone like me I like collecting old school players and prospect. It’s cool when you get a Bagwell auto or Griffey. I liked the set and it was fun
is this the donruss design that the other sports will look like later?
That was hard to watch. I'll miss panini
It is a sad day... this product is horrid. I think we just heard the death rattle from Panini Baseball
I’d bet you have never got a Donruss box with this many hits before
I’ll be honest I am not looking forward to Fanatics taking over everything. I have ripped some Fanatics exclusive products (Blasters, Megas, etc. and the cards were terrible. I’ve gotten several Damaged cards in every box I’ve got from Fanatics. I think it’s going to be bad for the hobby.
RIP but I will always remember Panini Immaculate Baseball for giving me my Elly!!!
So is this the new don Russ design that will trinkle into other sports
Keep up the great videos 🎉
Im sure they will have contracts saying No free public signings. Got to protect their interest. Which will include kids at games.
It’s actually not super terrible I got a 1 of 1 in the box I ordered. Granted I wouldn’t buy another box I was okay with the 1 of 1 lol
Select baseball cereal boxes is one of the best products I’ve ever opened. IYKYK
I guess im a snob but i could never get into panini even when they had the mlbpa license i just couldn't get over the no mlb logos. I will say alot of panini cards though looked great and it was a shame they didn't have the mlb license. especially most optic releases.
If you had any doubts about this product then fear not, you get reassured 73 times that this product sucks. I don't think its that bad. Some decent prospects and 3 hits for 130 bucks.
Tatis has a Superstar Skylines card in this
Will this product have any value in prospecting?
I think it will be the budget alternative to Bowman autos for sure. The optic autos really look nice, but they'll sell for far less than they should.
I Survived RGLs 2023 Panini Donruss Baseball Hobby Box Review
Hoping Fanatics buys Donruss, Upper Deck, Pinnacle names among others. I don’t wanna see the panini name I don’t care for their designs.
Nice rip on the De La Cruz. Probably got the only hit most people are chasing.
Honestly I’m pretty sure I got a hot box numbwred cards I’m every pack some had 2 or 3
I think its a fun box. Its probably the most fun ive had on a while
Not sure why you’re bashing this set bro! These cards are BY FAR superior to anything Topps is producing in terms of quality and design. The Marvels, Bomb Squad and Unleashed sets are light years ahead of Then & Now, Now & Then, news flashbacks…etc. why are we getting “news flashbacks” on baseball cards?
Man this had some cool inserts. It would have been a fun rip with current players smh
Panini can still put out a nice set of HOFers like Leaf does.
If you’re selling the James wood I’m a buyer
Prospectors will buy it still, good autos
Panini baseball has always been rough.
Dude your all over the place you hate it you love it you don’t like something then you say great autos I’m here lol😂 100 box it’s fun for opening and that’s it super cool unique set . Sounds like your looking for 1/1 prospect autos or current hall of famers dude go buy a big money set then what a joke! But this it’s super fun to open and the kids love getting lots of numbered cards . “Hobby” box … not investor money making box lol😂
liked donruss better than series 2 topps. 3 good hits vs 1 crap topps auto. donruss is kinda like a new bowman.. like the legends as well
My guy I usually like you but you carried on way, way, way too much about how terrible this product was and is going to be. You pulled almost box value on a $100 box. I've seen boxes of 2023 Topps Heritage and Series 1 and 2 that are around the same price point produce far less value.
I was looking this up today after watching your video and am surprised to see that it is STILL way overpriced. Is there something that has saved it from the predicted price drop?
Mostly the fact it's easier to hit prospect autos from this product than anything else.
i was wondering if prospecting was going to save this product.
Yes it sucked they lost the Players Rep but the constant complaining killed this vid. And I agree, losing out to fanatics has killed Panini Baseball.
This pretty much sums up the box - "I don't need Tim Wakefield cards in 2023"
jirdan walker towards the end was a reverse negative
I really appreciate you pointing that out. Errors and little wrinkles like this use to be really cool. Donruss baseball has does a million different image variations and faux-errors throughout the years that I just don't bother to seek them out anymore because their value isn't much more than teh base.
Noticed 2 of the Griffeys were reversed too. Weird seeing him as a righty haha.
No Cal Raleigh that's a deal breaker.
What does everyone think will happen to the value of Panini baseball for previous years? Certain years might provide a shortage in certain names within Panini.
Can you get an anthony volpe?
Didn’t fanatics already buy panini?
Ichiro was only good at things that caught attention without creating actual oroduction
If only they numbered the spacers! Can you imagine, a black 1/1! 😂😂😂
panini has always been 🗑️🚮 idk why people still buy that product
Fanatics is in process of buying out HGA Grading and have hired several Panini employees and JSA employees away! Their taking over in small steps!
Going to Double my money off of 5 cards
This set ain't even that bad... its kinda like bowman but not the 1st cards
Panini has no one to blame but themselves for this. They could have sold their company to Fanatics and we could have had some variety in cards again. Instead, now they're getting broke into, suing Fanatics for people trying to find a new job and getting their only money making autograph signers poached by Fanatics. This is just a preview of how poor Panini football and basketball products will be this year.
Panini can continue to print football and basketball through 2024.
If you still have the pete rose cards... hit me up XD
It will sell. People collect prospects and Vets more than current players.
Donruss makes some Fun cards all things considered.
