My boss is an American living in Chicago.
I know that I don't need to respond to 'How are you doing?' with an answer about how I am doing.
But he knows that Indians are not aware of this protocol. So, every time he asks me this he expects a literal response. And he does same when I ask him same question.
So, here are two individuals who know that they don't need to give a literal response but they do it in every meeting. Awkward.

Indians don't consider it rude in getting to the straight point when they go to a shop or similar such place. If you think about it, it's actually quite efficient way of going about the thing, when you know that you and your counterparty both don't care anything about your personal how-abouts and both of you are keen to do business straightaway!

    Rick,
The "Texas Wave" may be unique to Texas, but the "Farmer Wave" is known and practiced all over the rural roads of the Midwest, including all of the the short small town streets of Nebraska, Iowa, etc.
Had you driven outside of Omaha during the day, you would have seen them on all 2 lane county, state, and federal highways.
At night, specially on moonless nights, most big city boys drive out a short distance, and then do a U-turn and decide to spend the night in Omaha, because there are no more street lights, and driving in the dark is scary for city folk.
    :D
