Thanks Mike. I am fairly new at this and really appreciate all that you and others do for us by making these videos and teaching us. Kind regards.

Hi Mike from the UK. I have a question. I am relatively new to this hobby so my question is, should I always lift a leg of a resistor to check it's value or can I do it in circuit? I am enjoying all of your videos so please keep them coming. Seasons greetings. Terry

What do you do when your S40 has been “modified” so that it doesn’t follow the schematic? Should you remove the mods and go back to the original schematic or replace the parts that are no longer working properly?

First question. What is the mod? what was its intent?

Second question. Does the radio operate? Has it been restored yet?

I'm not sure what it is or why it was made. It is different from the schematic. I meant this as a general question. What do you do in a case where the actual circuit is different from the schematic? Stick with the schematic or replace any bad parts of the modification? @@MikesRadioRepairRestoration

No, it's one I've been working on.

Don’t forget to inspect all point to point wiring! Especially if the radio incorporates rubber insulated wires.

This is perfect for me, and thanks for your excellent instruction here. I was glad you listed the radios you will be working on. I don’t have any of them, but I am tempted to get one so I can follow along in an exact fashion. I do have an SX-100 and if I could get to the point of having that one working well, that would be my ultimate goal. But something simpler to work on first I think. I have an S38D but it is in terrible condition. Maybe I’ll start there anyway. Others I could tackle are a Heathkit SB-300, and a Drake SPR-4 (solid state).

The S-38 would be a great place to start. You could join our Facebook page and toss up a few photos so I can see if its worth your time. I would need to see the top and underside of the chassis. Cheers!
