Love all the bands you mention. Solitude Aeturnus would probably by my number 1 right now. Robert Lowe is one of the finest metal vocalists out there. Also love his work in Candlemas and Tyrant.

Definitely Lord Vicar should have been mentioned. It is from the same guy who is behind Reverend Bizarre, Kimi Karki and in my personal opinion Lord Vicar is just better than Reverend Bizarre. It is more melodic and has it's own style of darkness with a strange aesthetic touch.

Great list! I agree with Candlemass getting the top spot. Solitude Aeturnus is my personal favorite Doom band. I discovered them through Candlemass. Khemmis and Pallbearer were the first Doom Metal bands i got into. And then Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus and so on. I was surprised to see Type O Negative here. They usually appear on Goth Metal lists, but i think of them as more of a Doom band. I was also surprised Yob didn't make the list. Oh well, they can be an honorable mention. Thanks for putting this list together.
Loved Cathedral for years...still listen to The Ethereal Mirror fairly regularly. Also, Ride has to be the most upbeat Doom song ever!

Guys, I'm starting to prefer death metal to thrash metal, is this normal for a metalhead? Or is it my musical tastes changing?
The only subgenres I dont listen to are punk and black metal and I'm a fan of metal so if you have your own reasons it's ok

All depends on your mood really. You'll be back to thrash eventually. Think of it not as you liking something less and moreso just wanting to diversify.

I think it's a natural progression. You want something that's more extreme. Legion of the Damned is a nice medium of Death and Thrash and is one of my all time favorite bands. I will always be a thrasher tho.
Wanna spread the word of this german doom band that really deserves the attention. That is Fvneral Fvkk - Carnal Confessions
Some of these are stoner/progressive doom. Traditional doom is more St. Vitus, Trouble, and Pentagram; it has more of a blusey hard rock edge to it like Sabbath. But good list! I would replace Elder, Pallbearer, WIndhand, and Type O Negative with Pentagram(arguably the father of doom), Witchfinder General, The Obsessed, and Pagan Alter.

I dont know what you would call them but My Dying Bride is the darkest band I ever heard. Turn Loose The Swans is my favorite album of all time. On a different album they hired a professional opera singer to do the track Dark Pavillion. That takes guts!
