Thank you so much…I finished my first 70.3 very chilled, think I was dehydrated I’ve been told. Haven’t had any answers on what to do about it. Very simply explained. I appreciate you being willing to share what you’ve learned.
Excellent !! I am def. in the bonk man club. coincidentally , happened again yesterday on Mt. Lemmon , the temps shot up and i fried . Thank you for your affirming support ~peace~
4:00 if only you had a system that allows you to linearly measure stuff...oh yes, the international metric system! lol how pointless is it to still use ounces, gallons, pounds, etc? how???
I actually performed my best with 2 gu gels diluted in my 2 500ml bottles on the bike and chugged gatorade in every aid station on the run plus 1 gel every 25-30 mins or so.
I use gels as well. I take one gel every 30 minutes. Using water just makes the chemistry formula more complex. I raced a dozen ironman races (pretty well) with only water and gel before finally switching to sports drink and gels when I really saw a performance gain and was able to race in the heat.
@@TJ.at.DimondBikessoeryblet me get this straight. Do you use sports drink to swallow gels instead of water? Sorry for asking so mucj, but how sports drinks has carbs in it and you also take gels theynhave carbs in it. So how many gels and how many liters of sports drink do you consume in a 9 hpurs ironman? Thanks. No mextra elektrolit?
Yes, I use sports drink to swallow gels. I use gels that have a little more liquid in them anyway, but I take 1 gel every 30 minutes and 1 bottle of sports drink every 30 minutes while on the bike. Again the goal in an Ironman should be to pee twice on the bike (or more) so you can run to your potential.
Yes, your sweat rate changes with the weather. This is why I need to drink more in Kona than in Arizona. My baseline is 2 bottles per hour. If it is cold I can probably drink less but if I am trained well to consume 2 bottles per hour it won't hurt my performance. If it is extra hot like Kona.. I need to drink more or my performance will suffer.
You only talk about sports drink. What about gels? Where does gels fit in this feed plan. Do you get your carbs only from sport drinks and not get any gels? Then why do people use gels? Or shpuld it be a mixture of gels and sport drinks?
I just did my first ironman (lake placid) a week ago and I dont know what happened but I had a great swim 1:20, a decent bike (8hr). I really wanted fresh legs for the run which I did have. No pain. Muscles felt great. But as soon as I sat down to put my running shoes on my head kind of blew up and it was hard to think straight and I wasn't thinking clearly. I did not feel sick but the thought of consuming anything was not sitting right with me and I could not get any of my snacks/drinks in me and I had to walk most of the first 13.1. After a while of eating chips/oranges I was finally feeling better and able to run the second half at a good pace (9:00-9:30/mile) all the way to the finish. Any idea what could have happened when I sat down in the transition tent? I have never experienced it before.
Probably either low blood sugar or low blood pressure or maybe a combination of both. Keep your blood sugar is very important in an Ironman. Brain fog usually corresponds with low blood sugar.
It would’ve taken you another minute to type this dumb comment too. If you really wanted to watch it. Then watch it. Don’t be so precious. Not everything has to be done exactly how you like it 😂 who do you even think you are pal. You’re not paying for this video. Just watch it and zip it. 👍
@dbo4506 everything should be done exactly how i want it, I'm the main character, and am paying for it as I'm paying youtube premium, also I think you're precious as you took the time out to respond to my comment 😂
So, don't drink water, but you need to carry a bottle of it with you to use to rinse off after you've peed on your legs and feet... Seems like the better practice is to just stop by the side of the road to relieve yourself.
Urine is mostly just sterile water there is no reason to wash it off at all. It will dry and leave behind no smell at all. Using water will only wet yourself more

Thanks for the video! Gulf coast and Cozumel for me this year so this came at the right time.

Sensational advice TJ Very funny too. Love your work. 😂
Most informative triathlon UA-cam channel
Great video and breakdown. Keep 'em coming!
I like the memes. Differentiates this channel from the rest. Don't listen to the peanut gallery.
Excellent advice! Much appreciated.
Great info TJ, thank you!

good info ... but too many edits/ memes. Kinda hard to concentrate in the first 2 mins

So you only consumed 2 gels on the ironman Bike course and probably more than six on the run course??
Hi TJ, love the videos. Doing IMLP for my first full distance. Any tips for the bike course? Thanks!
Save your legs for the second lap coming back through Wilmington, and for the second lap of the run
Solid info
No gels, food etc? I am using energy gels and dates as source of fuel on top of my electrolytes thus i need water for the gels and dates im consuming.

@Elvys, here is another great video of TJ's! ua-cam.com/video/fz7wD4--G0g/v-deo.html I used it and had a successful 70.3 2 weeks ago in Texas.

BUT, won't your sweat rate differ on hot and cold days?

Interesting 👍
So, a good electrolyte drink will be suitable?

good video
I concentrate my two bottles on the bike. I wish I had the real estate to carry 4 bottles, I can max carry 3. Enlighten me former bonk man.
2 behind saddle 1 regular and a full hydration system. Should be enough for a 2.5 hr half

It could also be low sodium or electrolyte imbalance.
Does this apply on my easy zone 2 recovery runs that are around 5k or so?
You should be using Sports drink for everything over 30 minutes.
Man I really wanted to watch this but lasted 1 min 🤦♂️ to many cut aways

Contructive feedback... way to many outcuts for jokes...dont mind jokes but this is overkill. Ashame as the info seemed interesting...
