Thank you. Good vipdeo. I actually have the Arken website open right now ordering a scope and I wanted to see a SH4 gen 2 compared to ELP-4. I was ready to order the ELP until you spoke of the GEN 2. I like the fact that it is much heavier and similar light to ELP. You made my mind. SH4 Gen 2 it is! You saved me a hundred bucks!
You will be happy regarding the weight as compares to others they have out. Performance wise...without beating a horse dead just review the ep4/5 content it will mostly apply.
Glass quality high resolution and high quality coatings are far more important then tube size. Tube size comes into consideration for very long distance shooting. Larger tube allows the mechanism inside the tube more room for movement (elevation) But never step down in glass or in turret quality, etc., just to get the 30mm tube.
I think its fair to say off the the ratios of components work together to achieve a goal. From an engineering standpoint i would lean toward agreement that the larger tubes came about for purpose of allowing larger mechanisms inside the optic; however in doing so the physics of light transmission through a larger tube assist with the photoelectric effect. If one were to grossly go in an opposite direction the example would be much more visible....say 20mm tube with greatest glass on planet may not have dusk/dawn clarity of marginal glass on a 34mm tube. Thanks for chiming in great discussion!
Just one review so far on the EPL4 4-16x44mm; one on order 2/3 weeks to go. It is winter here in Alaska no rush. Additional: I was not interested in the other Arken scope models too heavy!
@@RugerGundog Update: Shipped February 14, 2023, expected delivery Tuesday 21st. I will be comparing it against Tract Toric 4-20x (Arken EPL4 4-16x). Almost 12 weeks.
Gonna sell all my Athlon scopes and pick up all Arken. Just got an SH4 now I'm hooked they seem way more rugged and clear than my Athlons. Gonna get an EP5 for long range rifle, EPL4 for my hunting rifle, and put my SH4 on my AR10. Very impressed! Thanks for releasing content on EPL4!
Boom...there you go Cody. I did the same with Vortex optics i owned. I can't say i was not happy with them; however the price point, business model and what Arken offers I elected to refit all my rifles with Arken knowing im getting amazing warranty, and features pretty much same across all the different models. I have a few of each and enjoy them all. For what you get for the money on the SH4 Gen2 i stacked up on those with more than i like to admit, lol.
I've discussed glass with Arken and the EP glass is an upgrade over SH glass. When I purchase I'm still going will the SH Gen ll big boy for my bench/LR rig. I plan on going with the EP lighter version for my walking/stalking rig.l'd love too purchase both at the same time but the truck is ready for new tires.Darn ! 😳👍
A 2” tube wouldn’t gather more light then a 1” tube. However a 50mm front lens does gather more then a 44mm. It’s odd how many scopes the Arken Reviewers have either new or not mounted on rifles. Maybe I’m overthinking it.
I'm all in on the epl-4 IF only I could get it with the VPR (Xmas tree) reticle that comes with the sh4 gen2...I would buy it in a second. P.S. the current SH4 Gen2 weighs 36+ oz!
B. The tube diameter though not inherently increased for light transfer does indeed have a direct impact on it. Though the objective lens and its quality most would agree is the primary light gathering mechanism; the size of the tube and other lenses within do impact degree of passing to a lesser extent, none the less to some degree.
Im fortunate enough to have a pair of them a original release and the secondary release after some minor cosmetic changes were made in the infancy of Arken. Great optics......wish the would do a throwback and make a run of them!
Of course it's "better". It has different origins. An origin we have fewer trade and shipping issues. You may be shocked to learn the manufacturing specifications are no different. Stepping up to EP line a subtle difference is generally more apparent in specific conditions. Based on my hundred of hours behind these Optics I would ascertain under optimal conditions one would find it even hard to objectively outline difference of ep5 and sh4 glass. By that I mean they all are pretty darn good.
I want a reticle comparison, just debating 16 or 24 power. If I wanna dial down to 10, I don’t want reticle to be minuscule. The reticle is usually bigger at 10x with a 16x, smaller with a 24x. I think that’s right.🤷♂️

your welcome
how? it costs more than epl
I just ordered my first Arken SH4J 6X24. I'm looking forward to getting it mounted. I appreciate your help.
No problem. I hope you enjoy it.
Waiting on my EPL4 right now. Glad I made the choice.

@@RugerGundog Awesome. That's what I was concerned with. I wanted to know if the glass compared to Ep4/5
Thanks for sharing, it’s nice you have the three for comparison 👌
I have a gen1 that was a dealer demo.
Very cool to hear! I love the Gen1 and its a bit of a unicorn these days.

Good luck man!
I sense these will be quite popular. They made a great product.

I hear ya! And best part is you can still get those tires. Buy some other brand and you would not have food on the table or ammo, lol.
EP series has ED (extra lower dispersion) Japanese Glass vs the SH series has HD Chinese Glass. The ED glass has more clarity then the HD glass
Thanks Randall

Will not gather...but will transfer more of it.
I would gladly buy from you that new in the box sh4 4x14 gen 1😂😂😂 been looking for one.
Thanks for the offer however it's now been mounted.

I feel the same way
I enjoy mine.
4X16 4 GEN 2 HERE MAY BUY ANOTHER BEFORE PRICE INCREACE
There is still time!
Really, no VPR? we going back in reticle tech now? lol
The reticle on this for hunting applications is quite useful.
So what’s the price comparison??

Well...Arken well under with great specs.
The tube diameter does nothing with the light. It does give a better range on the elevation of the crosshair but hat is it.

is it worth $800?
The scope is like $400 lol
If they asked 800....it sure is....but they dont!!
NOTE: the Orignial SH-4 Gen1 is no longer avaible unless you can find on on the used market.. and good luck.. lol

If you like these they ep5 25 x56 with 34 mil tube. Can shoot so much more accurate with it
I tend to feel the ep5 adds increased definition of a target but not necessarily any more accuracy to be afforded from tje increased detail.
Jon Stewart pitching Arken😂
Oh, we're watching the Daily Show then, lol

The new sh4 optic glass is awesomely better glass than what Bob is reporting!!!.

Yes this is the drawback of ffp
