Three Back-to-Back CSX Trains: West Trenton, New Jersey

- On the rainy afternoon of May 4, 2024, three consecutive CSX trains are witnessed passing through West Trenton, New Jersey on the company's Trenton Subdivision. X404, I032 and M403 all pass in short succession with interesting power (at least by 2024 Class 1 railroad standards, in my opinion!) I hope you enjoy and thank you very much for watching!

Would you say Saturdays are a good day for railfanning the Trenton Line? Seems like you got a lot of good action here on Saturday the 4th
I know you didn't ask me, but as someone who finds myself railfanning this line often it doesn't really depend on the day in the freight context. Passenger trains will of course run way less often on weekends, but what I have observed over the years is that freight subdivisions such as this one tend to have random days of business, and certain days where the line can be dead for 6 hours or more at a time. However, in this area on the Trenton sub I have noticed that trains like M404 and I032 typically tend to run by in the hours between 1:00-4:00 P.M. There are exceptions to this rule, but it almost always seems to happen. M301 also typically almost always runs by from 5:00-9:00 P.M. Again, If you're unlucky, you're just unlucky.
By the way, if you want the broadcastify scanner link for this CSX line I will link it for you. You will be able to know when trains are coming anywhere from 10-40 minutes in advance.
Intermodal_Ian summarized it very well; there's not really a specific day of the week that seems to yield more freight trains than others. Keeping an ear to the scanner feeds (as Ian mentioned) as well as Facebook heads ups groups (if you're active on FB) would be a solid technique to get a feel for whether or not it's worth visiting the Trenton Line on a particular day. Sometimes you get lucky and can witness many trains in one visit; other days you may be significantly disappointed, lol. I was at West Trenton on this particular day from 1pm to 4pm and witnessed all three of these trains in that final half hour (3:30pm to 4pm.) Best of luck in your endeavors!
