We completed Fins N Things a week ago in a stock 2019 JL Sahara. No diff lockers and no lift kit with regular street tires. We went with our Jeep Club and had excellent spotting and guidance. The weather was in the 20s but there was no snow or ice on the trail. We did take it easy and used several bypasses, but in the end it was fun and safe with no damage to our rig or egos! If you want to do the trail with a stock Jeep and you have good spotters and moderate levels of experience and confidence then this trail will be a blast!
I really appreciate that… I try my best to make these useful. Usually I’m in 4WD low on harder moderate to difficult trails and use lockers only when absolutely necessary to protect the vehicle and trail. I’ll keep reminding myself to include this info. Thanks for watching!
@3:16 Are you sure about that ~55 degree incline? That is seriously close to the estimated pitchover angle. Plus, the person standing there doesn't make it look like it is an angle well over 45 degrees. But beyond that, what an awesome video!
That was probably a typo… it was so long since I edited this. Actually I just looked at it. That’s the wall. I got that info from another resource. It’s steeper than it looks on video, but it probably has one spot where you are close to 55 somewhere on there or the resource I used was wrong. Thanks!
Yeah, I do too! I was talking with Stan Fuller (CJ2A youtuber) and we were talking about shooting together a while ago... but then I realized he’d out wheel the 💩 out of me lol. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I’m trying and I’m still learning how to do them. Using a stock wrangler definitely helps me see things a little differently tho. Thanks for watching!
Hitting Fins & Things next week in a 2.5” lifted 2 door JK. With open diffs I was feeling a bit nervous. Your video gives me lots of confidence! I’m running 33s with an air pump to air down. I also have sway bar disconnects. Should be a good time! My buddies are renting Rzrs so we’ll see if I can keep up. Thank you for putting together this video!
That white Jeep looks exactly like mine. On 11-30-2020 I ordered my first ever Jeep after being predominantly a Toyota Tacoma guy for off roading, for decades. I ordered a brand new 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. It arrived at my dealership on 02-12-2021 and I bought it on 03-01-2021. So far I totally love it and plan on doing a lot of off roading in it. I grew up in San Diego and off roaded my entire life either out there, in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas or Nevada. I now live in rural, Northeast Colorado and can’t wait to go out exploring out here and in Utah too. Thanks for the video! I enjoyed watching it.
I love the petrified sand dunes at Fins 'N Things. Did it one year with a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sport S (open diffs; 2.5" lift; 33" BFG KO2s). Doing it this week (tomorrow!) in a 2021 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited Rubicon, totally stock...looking forward to the lockers. :)
I liked how you showed different vehicles concurrently doing the same obstacle. And, thanks again for stock (or close to it) guides. Last time I was in Moab we did Baby Lion's Back and Chicken Corners because videos of other runs were mainly tricked out vehicles. Fortunately, we did do a "difficult" trail (Tower Arch trail) but only because I didn't bother researching it ahead of time.
Great video. I loved seeing the JK to TJ side by side shots. I wish more videos did that when possible. Great job getting the land cruiser in there as well. Always cool to see those things out wheeling.
Thank you! Honestly, I want to redo the guides with a 2 door, 4 door, 4Runner/Cherokee, full size truck Renegade… but it’s tough even though I have friends with all those. Maybe if this was a full time job, but right now I just make videos when I’m not working. Anyway, appreciate the comment and I do try to get multiple vehicles in these (been tough this year as I’m in GJ and my buddies are all on the front range). Thanks for watching!
GREAT guide. As a Utah native I am in Moab all the time but rarely have someone to wheel with. Having good video guides to download and look at the night before is a HUGE confidence builder for me as a solo Jeeper. 02 TJ here ;)
Awesome! I’m so glad this was useful! I thought I’d be furloughed right now and I was going to film some more Moab trails. Soon I’ll be back tho, love it there!
Great video! I was in Moab in Feb 2022 with my 2012 JKU with 3" lift, 35s, and lockers. I had no problems whatsoever. My wife and I are going back out in Sep 2022 with her 2020 Jeep Rubicon Recon that is still stock. We will put skid plates on it before, but rest will still be stock. Thank you for this video so I could watch a stock 2020 JLU do Fins and Things! (My wife does NOT want her jeep damaged...yet.)
Great job showing the trail. I really like watching different rigs tackle the same obstacle. It’s always great making friends on the trail, Looks like an awesome afternoon!
Thanks Bill! This was definitely a tough one to edit, but it was a great day and it was fun remembering that. Wish my KL buddy was able to run it as I would have loved to see it on this. Thanks for watching!
Ran Fins and Things yesterday for the first time. Wish I’d seen this video beforehand! It would be great for videos like this if you showed someone running each of the alternatives. We didn’t take all of harder alternatives, but the ones we did were quite manageable. Would have done them all if we had more knowledge (and experience). Watched 3 vehicles do “send it” from your video. I would say all stayed on it. A Gladiator did it with crawl control on and walked right up. One guy sent it pretty hard and his front wheels almost came off the rock - he clearly scared himself as he slowed right down, but still made it. They made several attempts for the first two, but the third guy, who may have been the most experienced and clearly had the benefit of watching the others, made it in one shot. Great trail and well worth it for anyone who wants to have some fun in a Jeep!
Nice! This was an early trail guide, but we try to at least show the alternatives even if we don’t have enough vehicles to show all lines. We’re learning and improving as we go too. Thanks for watching!
Just came upon this video and wanted you to know how much I enjoyed it. Plan to visit Moab next year in a Bronco but our Wrangler would be fun too except it only has two doors, and the Bronco has four doors and more room, which we need for family members. Thanks.
In spring 2022, I did Fins n things in a stock 2017 Ford Expedition King Ranch. It has an off road mode that shows your pitch and yaw angles as well as amazing 4WD modes that helped a lot. So fun.
I've been there a couple of times, and it was a blast both times ....once in my Jeep and the second time with my Razor. Finns and Things is probably my favorite of all of them...at least the ones I have rode. There are so many to ride. I'm going back in the second half of June with my sons, which we will be on the sxs's. I can honestly say this trail is on our must do list. hehehe Cheers
Great video. I love seeing what a stock wrangler can do. We have a TJ in our group that wheels circles around JLs and JKs. I live in New England and love to see what's out west.
So you asked for feedback, and here it is. VERY GOOD STUFF!!! I'm not a pro, but the only thing I would suggest and again, it's my opinion: 1. Lessen the typed comments. for me I like to focus on the action. My eye taking focus back and forth from the footage to the comments is a little distracting. You seem to have a great speaking voice. Try to just overlay your comments (voiceover) in each section along with the music and I think it would flow nicely. 2. I'm hooked on handheld gimbals for your phone or cameras. So suggestion, is use a gimbal with the camera on 60fps for that buttery smooth motion. Add an extension pole and create a crane effect, especially useful on those shots where you're on the side of the jeeps and coming up or down the rocks. Your so lucky to be so close to all of the great wheeling areas. I dream of being out there regularly and hope to do so this year. 3. Don't change anything with the interviews. Great job with the closing of the video along with showing the stats on the jeeps. And add to that, the details you provided was good material. I'm a fan now and hitting the subscribe button right now. Lol. Last year I traveled across country from Georgia to Colorado on my BMW R1200GSAdventure to run the passes and see the sights. I completed the Alpine loop and part of the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route, and for as much fun as I had, I just couldn't help but wish I had my jeep so I could have done more. So, Colorado here I come in 2021. 2018 JLUR, 5"lift, 37"MTR's.... C U Soon.
Thanks for the feedback! I’ve been working on less text in newer ones, but I’m still trying to dial it in. Did buy a gimbal! Need to learn to use it, but will definitely in time for this summer’s videos. I have to run to work, but thanks so much for watching!
Have to catch up and watch every video! First Jeep I owned was a 2D 98 TJ, and now my current Jeep is a 2020 JT LE! --- Do miss that short wheelbase at times !
I miss my TJ sometimes too... thanks for watching them all! Hope you’ve seen some improvements... I’m very new at this and I’m teaching myself as I go.
All around great video. All the extra wording boxes had good info. Especially liked the introduction to the drivers and their rigs. Video editing was great. The ffwd counter at the beginning was a cool addition. Keep it up. I subscribed.
Thanks so much for the awesome feedback! I should maybe bring the rider rig interviews back into the videos... now it’s just small text boxes showing a quick breakdown of their rig. However, my idea is to do like a greatest hits video for each rig in the winter using clips from the summer as they tell us what they’ve done. Might do a test run with Sean’s KL as we filmed a walk around the other day. Thanks for watching and subbing! Means a lot!
Great video. Commentary was helpful. This is trail we’d like to take someday. Hoping to do it with others, not alone. We have a 2020 JT Rubicon with 3 1/2” Metalcloak Game changer lift and 37’s. Would have loved to see a JT with you and the group. Plan on checking out some of your other videos, hope some with JTs.
Thank you! This was an early one for me and we’re getting better as we make more. I’d love to have a JT with me too, but it’s difficult to get rigs with me based on my job’s schedule. A stock JT might hit its rear skids a bit, but I’d take it on the trail. Jeep designed it for trails like this.
I love that you're showing what a stock rig can do. Mine's a JKU, not a Rubi, but I think it could hang on those trails... One day I'll have to make that journey....
Dude, it can absolutely hang! So I’m trying to get a more stable job, if it goes through, I’ll lease a JLU Willy’s and use that for a lot of my trail guides since most people have 4 doors. Thanks for watching!
Great video planning a trip next year and planned to do Fin's and Things also in a stock vehicle, JT however ,should scrap on a few on those but looks fun regardless.Thanks.
I've been out there on that trail in my 12 Rubicon 2 door and also with my 2 door Razor. I went back to 2 door jeep as it is my toad for the MH and is lighter to tow, but now wish I had the 4 door version. The 2 door benefits are tighter turns for narrow trails, but the 4 door gives a smoother rides. cargo room. My main reason for wanting the 4 door is I tow my fishing boat, which is an 18 ft aluminum boat, and the longer wheel base of the 4 door would make it easier to tow. As you noticed above that my Razor is also 2 door, and most of my trail riding is in tight conditions and I like the turning radius a 2 door offers.
Great stuff. You'r doing an amazing job editing. That was perfect to see how different rigs handled the trail. I love my 2018 JLUR with a manual transmission. I want a 2 door TJ too! Jeeps are so capable stock and its nice that you are showing that. Now 2" lift and 35" tires do make a good thing better.
Thank you! Yeah, I was going to go to a 2in and 33-35s now that my suspension is worn in, but since I want to keep showing how stock does, I’ll just rebuild it to stock. Plus, before I build, I’d need a new stock wheeler and I’m not sure what I want. Anyway, thanks for watching!
Great video! Family planning to take our 2024 Rubicon to Moab in April - driving down from Seattle area. Is the trail well marked as we will be traveling solo?
Yeah, it’s well marked. I’d suggest using gps going solo tho. TrailsOffroad will give you the waypoints while you’re out there. This video explains how it works… ua-cam.com/video/EmVko114FVQ/v-deo.htmlsi=ZvhRWRA9pPxw01RU
Yea, it’s such a fun trail that most vehicles can safely navigate! Thanks so much! Yea, I’m trying to get others more involved because I’m such a bad host 😂
Just got back from my first Moab trip. At your Send It! Hill climb, I had front and rear locked and just slowly crept up in 1st gear. Too me twice because too much sand on the track the first time from the first two vehicles. Stock ‘22 JLUR. I’m so surprised about what the heck this thing could do! It was a blast!
Sweet! I thought about that, but having a SWB, I felt too light in the nose especially without knowing where to point it. That’s good to know and I want to re-film this one so I’ll use that. Thanks!
Just came across your videos and love them! I'm actually in an Xterra so there's not much footage of rigs like mine on these trails but yours are put together well!
Awesome! I actually love Xterras and almost added one in 2010ish. I’ve been trying to get Xterras in videos so if you ever want to run together, let me know. Thanks for watching!
@@coloradomallcrawlers Ah no way! That's rad! I'll be upgrading my lift fairly soon after adding bumper weight. Not sure when I'll actually make it to Moab but the Xterra meet-up (goneMOAB) should be in May if it doesn't get cancelled! 🤞
You will have an awesome time and I’m glad it helped! That’s my goal with these, trying to improve them with each upload! I personally am looking forward to returning to Moab myself, but probably when the snow starts here! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! Yea, I’m hoping this Coronavirus mess goes away soon so Moab can financially recover as they definitely want and need you (and I) to run their trails! Thanks for checking out the video!
Yeah, all great vehicles there! I might add a 4 door auto, but that’d be for remote start as I work in the cold and it’d be great to warm up the vehicle. Thanks for watching!
We have some of the world’s best trails out here in Southern California, but we sure don’t have those gorgeous views. Nice video bud, you got a new sub.
I’ve been loving your vids recently! I ran Fins and Things back in march in my renegade! Also even though I live in texas I spend lots of time up in CO and your trail guides give me the info I need when picking trails! You should run the Banks loop north of cañon city!
I’m glad you like them! I’ve got I think 10 more Colorado trails to edit and then when we’re done with those, we’ll get some more Moab trails filmed. Then we’ll be back to covering Colorado trails so I can probably hit that one up next summer unless it avoids the snow! Thanks for watching, we appreciate the support!
Took my F250 to Colorado in August and decided next year I'm gonna go back and go from Colorado down to Moab. Not gonna do any major trails, but definitely wanna do Fins and Things and Dome Plateau. I know it's not the best rig for this sort of stuff, but did real well in Colorado, well except on some switchbacks that were a pain because of the turning radius lol.
Great video! My girlfriend and I bought our first Jeep not too long ago. It’s an 89 Jeep wagoneer limited (xj) Were looking forward to lifting it and hitting fins and things as well as all of the western slope trails
Awesome! I’m glad! Going back to Moab next week to film some more (as long as my work furloughs me). Thanks for watching and subbing! The new ones should be better... I’m learning as I go.
Same here buddy! That was a fun run and I hope you liked the video... I don’t have anyone’s contact info from that day, but since you guys are the stars, your opinion matters the most on this one. Hope to see ya in Colorado sometime!
Ricardo Garcia you’ll be fine... Jeeps are extremely capable machines! Colorado trails are epic also so if you have extra time, swing over here. Thanks for watching!
@@coloradomallcrawlers if I had it recorded I would post it... when we were there it was me and my wife on a solo trip, didn't get much recorded what so ever. But I remember that little tricky hill. The longer wheelbase on my gladiator prolly helped out some as well
Its funny how rocks and ledges never look as big or as steep as they do in person. Im in Northern California for now, but hopefully I will make it out to Moab in the next year or two. There are so many trails that I want to do out there.
Yea, it’s definitely tricky to show that why I’m stay stock to at least give people an idea lol. I hope you do too as it’s fun! However northern Cal has some good trails I hear. Thanks for watching!
Such great content as always man. So much editing and time put into your videos I really hope for some good things for your channel and hope your Jeep is coming along and getting all fixed up
Thanks so much man! Same to you! Hope we can wheel together soon and yea, it’s nice to have a functional clutch again (which I really didn’t have for these videos lol).
Dewie’s Colorado ya my goal is to for sure hit 1,000 subs on my gaming channel and my vlog and adventure channel I’d like to hit like 50 subs. But yes I hope so to I got some maintenance to do on my truck and got some little things coming for a face lift and hopefully be able to be ready to wheel and tackle some trails this summer with my little ford ranger lol. Hope things getting better in the world so we can meet up and go wheeling sometime. Nice to hear your clutch is working and stuff again and your jeeps coming along.
Did this trail yesterday. Amazing and fun. Awesome views. I’m new to this and this was so fun. Had a great Jeep with good clearance and it powered right up these climbs. Not for normal 4x4 vehicles. This video does a good job showing some the challenging parts. Videos don’t really show how steep some of those really are. My pucker factor was pretty high during a couple of those decents.
Joe D glad you had a blast! Yeah, showing steepness is a struggle on video especially with wide shots. Pucker factor will decrease as you wheel more. Thanks for watching and welcome to off-roading!
Great video with lots of views and commentary. Wondering if you think a 2020 Gladiator Rubicon with 3 1/2” lift and 37’s would be able to do the same routes of the trail of your video with its longer wheelbase? Keep up the great videos.
Thank you! I believe off-roading is more about the driver than vehicle so I absolutely believe a gladiator could do most of these trails. In fact, I wanted one myself, but I decided to replace the JK with a JL and add a Jeep liberty instead. The liberty is going to be a minimalistic build so I’m hoping it’ll show people you don’t need much to go adventuring. Thanks for watching!
Dude, good video. you did a great job highlighting the trail... don't sweat the wind,, it happens,,, ur doing jeep things out on a trail. Keep it up,, subs will follow.
Thank you! I love filming these and they’re forcing me to go wheel even when I’m exhausted from work! Thank you for watching... I’m thinking of adding a JLU for these guides so your channel’s insights are key to my education on those.
Dewie’s Colorado I’m always happy to help... easier way to communicating with me WOD on Instagram or Facebook... I don’t always get notified of comments on YT.
I’m a not good on Instagram, but I’ll find you on Facebook. It’s an alias profile, but it lets me just get Jeep stuff on my feed. It’s an alias profile because I originally thought I might go ghostbusting in a ghostbusters costume here... I didn’t want any future jobs to find those videos 🤣
Haha, yea, especially since I’m a scientist 😜. Almost took a professor job at CU, I’m sure they would have fired as soon as they saw me strap on a proton pack and “investigate” ghosts... but I still think it’d be hilarious. I may still do it as part of a ghost town exploration.
Great content, like that you left the actual audio in the video as it's nice to hear the vehicles tracking up the trails. Feedback - too much text to read during the video I often find mysel reading instead of watching and miss some great obstacles lol - had to rewind a few times... I would suggest voicing over instead while still leaving the audio behind the voice over.. Really enjoyed the video overall and can't wait to do Fins n Things!
GsXtC21 really appreciate that and thanks for watching! I’m learning as I go, but the ones I filmed this weekend (which might be my best so far), will likely have narration. I gotta figure out how to create and edit that tho... shouldn’t be difficult, I hope.
One of my favorite runs. Do it often. I about choked when you asked if a guy was aired down and he said "yeah, down to 23." Did I hear that right? Gotta say looking at the tire contact throughout the video you all looked like you were running too high. I run 10psi when I'm not concerned and 8psi if it gets serious. For Fins & Things lowest pressures aren't needed. But for those vehicles that were just burning rubber and not going anywhere, yeah. Lockers are overrated for sandstone and may sometimes hurt. They're great on uneven terrain where one or two tires get light, but sandstone you usually have four tires in good contact. Lockers now will just make tires fight each other forcing some to slightly slip and that hurts ultimate traction.
It’s a good one! Being aired up has never decreased my enjoyment of a trail. I’ve been wheeling for over twenty years and this is what I was taught and it works. Air down for sand, snow, mud, wet rocks, and any obstacles that you need more traction for. I always have the ability to air down when I’m wheeling. I fortunately don’t need to air down for comfort except it is nice on washboard roads. Some tires lose their puncture resistance when aired down. Tire science is actually quite fascinating. Lockers depend on your vehicle. My TJ needs lockers to do some of the stuff my JL can do on slick rock with just its off-road traction control. But for many, lockers are one of the best investments in a build.
You think this is more difficult than Klondike Bluff? The trail ratings don't always agree with what people say. Thanks for filming these they are helpful.
If I can get this new yet more stable job, I may be adding a JLU Willy’s off road ok lease to film future trail guides with. But I’ll still have my baby... 2 doors rock 😉! Also considering the new bronco if they’ll let me wheel it 🤫
You wanted some advice... Lite Brite does a great job with these types of videos. I think one of the reasons is because Brittany narrates, and gives definitive quality spotting direction. If I were you, I would work on your dialogue and spotting more. The more you do it, the better you will be.
Thanks for the advice, this was an early video… they’re much improved now. I’m not a spotter tho, I’m a driver. I’m friends with Kevin and he can’t spot either 😉🤣. Oh, but I definitely agree, I’m a fan of their videos… but we’re not trying to be litebrite. We’re just trying to do our own thing.
Thank you! Yea, I can pick up the pace, it moves faster after the 4 minute mark, but I should have shot the south loop differently. Thank you for watching!
I have a jk Sahara that I’m starting to build. In the early 2000s I had an XJ that I built up when people were just starting to build them and realize how great they were I’m from west Tennessee I can go to middle or east Tennessee for wheeling but I did that and I’m sure I’ll go back but my main goal is to get out west. My entire life I’ve never been farther than Hot Springs Arkansas but I really want to see Utah or Colorado those areas I may have to do it solo because all the friends that I had that were in it, don’t do it anymore. But starting next spring early summer I’m going to try and go
You should make it out here… you won’t have issues running into people. I have a place in East Tennessee and grew up in North Carolina. Learned to wheel there and since you have too, you’ll have no problem on the trails out west. Good luck getting out here!
Nice video, helped convince my wife to take this trail in our gladiator. I hope the departure angle doesn't hurt us too bad. Did the Toyota ever make the spot where you said your not a Yota hater? 🤔lol
You should be fine here... you’ll bump the rear a little, but I think Jeep beefed that part up as that was a given to happen. Lol, this was a while ago, so I don’t recall what spot I said that, but if it was the spot with the bypass, he ended up taking the bypass. Just needed better tires I’m sure. Thanks for watching and have fun!
Loving the videos! Using them to scout ideas for my upcoming trip this early may 2023; Stock ‘894runner, ‘88 pathfinder 2dr, ‘88 d21, 05 ford ranger, a 92 geo metro and 1500 Silverado. Tire sizes range 31-33s. I was thinking fins n things and top of the world, not sure of a 3rd for the weekend trip. Mixed group of experienced and mild experience wheelers. Got any idea on a good 3rd trail for us to hit?
Thanks for watching and I’d recommend Dome Plateau as it’s one of my favorites with a ton of variety (arches, obstacles, overlooks, caves, weird rock formations). We have two videos on it and I’ll likely film another in the future.
I’m with you! I have one more Moab video, a failed trail guide that turned into a recovery video. Other than that, I haven’t wheeled since the lockdown... I can’t wait either!! Argh!
I think I had a gopro hero 6 black shooting 4K at 24fps. It could be the 7, but I don’t think I had that when this was filmed. The 6 and 7 seem pretty similar but 7’s is a tad bit better. Thanks for watching!
@@coloradomallcrawlers okay great. I have been working with the 4 for forever and it just makes everything so shakey. All my editing takes twice as long trying to correct. Thanks for responding.
That was a fun trail to run! Can't wait to go back this summer! Some of those bits didn't look familiar, but there are quite a few alt routes, and it was our first time so we were just kinda taking whatever looked funnest. Impressive to get that trail under 20 minutes...i had to do 2 parts because we spend like 3 hours on the trail stopping and picture/video'ing waay too much! (but its soo beautiful!) Thoughts on the video: I'm still missing the last line or two of half the pop-up texts, more so when you have the 3-way split of Jeeps screen AND a pop-up text! (have to decide what to look at, text or Jeeps doing the obstacles) (maybe try some voice over in place of, or supplementing, the text in some places?) Voice-over volume could maybe be a touch higher. Interview volumes definitely too quiet. (what are you using to capture those?) For wind noise and easy cheap 'fix' would be a thin piece of tape over the mic hole. or use your body or a vehicle as a shield to slow the wind down.
Thanks for watching and the tips! Yea, I originally had 1hr and 6mins in the timeline from I don’t know how much overall footage.... this was a rough one to edit. I was going to narrate it instead of text but it was taking too long so I added text late. I’m going to play around with narration in the next few videos. I’m doing something completely new to me, editing on a $250 basic iPad using lumafusion. I listened to it on earphones and watched it on the iPad in LumaFusion before publishing it. I couldn’t figure out how to increase Riley’s volume while using a high pass filter (it was unusable otherwise), but it was audible at just over 1/2 volume. But, you’re right, I need to figure the audio out. I might reach out to LumaFusion as I think I’d rather buy an iPad Pro over a new MacBook Pro or PC. I’m going to try to dig into some LumaFusion tutorials this weekend.
I have a fancy piece of paper that says i know a thing or two about audio. So that is naturally one of the things i notice more than most. Look into using a compressor to help boost the leftover audio after the EQ filters out the wind. I use compressors on many of my audio tracks, it helps make the quiet stuff louder while keeping the already loud stuff from being too loud. You could even play with the EQ and use a couple notch filters to grab some of the especially annoying frequencies while still keeping most of the speaking. Trouble with wind is it is a lot of 'white noise'. But filtering out below 100, and above 5k (most human speech lives in that range) will help with the extra clutter. I'm not familiar with that app, or anything apple...other than their use as boat anchors. :P
@@FearlessTrailhawk haha I love your Apple hate 😂 note 9 for the win here lol. I would be out of my element with them to be sure lol. Some people apparently prefer them for reasons I don't get 😂 oh well different strokes for different folks
Oh Sean, remember how crisp my iPhone 11 footage of your jeep looked on Kelly flats and your Samsung footage of my jeep was a wobbly mess... just kidding 😂
Great video! Fins is one of my favorite Moab trails. What camera were you using on the hood and for the outside shots? I loved the extra info in the text boxes.
Corey Maggio awesome! GoPro 7 or 6 Black for trail cam footage here, hopefully soon going to the 9. An iPhone 11 for outside shots... I’m super impressed by it so haven’t upgraded to something else, but I’m constantly looking! Thanks for watching!
Great video, thanks for posting. New to the whole 4x4 culture, so pardon my dumb question: what size tires are these vehicles running? Looks like 33's, but I wanted to ask. Thanks for your time!
Donald Austin no worries and not a dumb question... the yellow 2 door is running 32s, the 4 door is on 33s, the green 2 door was on 35s I believe. It might be described at the end, but I’m mobile right now and can’t check.
Think I could make it in a stock 08’ Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 (taking the bypasses for more technical climbs)? Looking to head out in May, and sadly can’t take the Jeep. Also, my truck isn’t equipped with a transmission or transfer case skid. Don’t mind the rear hitch scraping though.
Hmmm, I don’t know the Ram’s capability, but if it has a true low range, then yes. You might three wheel and I’d go with a friend so you have backup. Good luck and thanks for watching!
How would a 2006 first gen Liberty with brake lock diffs, traction control ,1.5 inch Bilstein lift,, 30” tires do on this trail ? I would love to do it..
So I saw a bunch of stockish gladiators running it. It’s likely doable! I think like Riley, the biggest issue would be not having an armored rear. Thank you for watching it!
Saw you at the Colorado Martini's. I like the stock jeep trail option. very interesting. I once had a 1968 Jeep Jeepster in Idaho...so fun. We have some videos that you would like, check us out
Thanks for watching! Yea, I’ve debated getting a class B RV and towing the Jeep for a while now (my job can send me to Grand Junction, Phippsburg, or Pueblo on a whim). I’ll check out your channel!
@@coloradomallcrawlers You would love it. If you have any questions, let me know. You would enjoy the journey. I want to invite you to our live stream on Sunday's 2pm central and thursday 8pm central...fun/friends I will shout you out
The Art of RVing oh cool! Might be able to do the 8p one, but right now I’m doing two jobs. I’m on call on the weekends (this is my original long term job who cut my hours during the pandemic), and I started a new job regularly M-F. I guess the RV thing depends on if I stay with my original job... the new job is stable and would keep me based in Denver. We’ll see! Got some of your videos in my que for today!
The Art of RVing we’ll I’m treating UA-cam as a job too so maybe 3, 😂. It’s not by choice tho, I loved my original job, but the company is set on getting rid of its workforce. This new job doesn’t pay well, but there’s an opportunity to make a difference so maybe. Well, looking forward to watching your videos later today!
I believe so as I understand the badlands is rubicon equivalent and the non-badlands models are like non-rubicons. I know a non-rubicon wrangler can do this trail without issue so you should be fine! Have fun!
Mason Acheson depends on what you consider as damage. You might scrape your plastic front bumper up a little or the rear, but that’s all I would guess. I’d start on the north side tho (2nd part of the video)... if that isn’t too bad, then try the south side (first part of video). North side also has early exits if needed. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Thank you! Stock Wrangler. I didn’t require my lockers to do this trail. I’d probably try it in a stock Cherokee Trailhawk, but I’m not certain it’s approach angle would work.
Hey! You don’t need beadlocks to air down, but to answer the question, you could do this without airing down. Now, I’m a bit weird with my airing down and don’t air down on many trails, but I usually will in Moab trails like this even if it’s not needed. Slick rock is really gripping, but if you by some chance take a line wrong, I feel better being aired down here. Have a blast!
@@coloradomallcrawlers how did you figure out how far you could air down with-ought beads? I feel like it would open me up to so many more options if I could get just a little more grip
@@Project_Keeper_Motorsports when I was a new off-roader, I wheeled with more experienced and soaked up all the knowledge I could from them. Then I joined MidSouth Jeeps in Memphis and learned a ton more. Read a few books on off-road theory too. So basically, find some people to wheel with that know more than you. Anyway, I will go to 25-20 with non-beadlocks, but some will go lower. I only needed it on Wheeler Lake with bald tires. I’ll do 30-25 to soften the ride on washboard prone trails.
Thanks! Hopefully the videos will only get better. I’m not a real hater of anything that goes off-road... Toyotas are fun to poke fun at as long as they poke back as both Jeeps and Toyotas have their strengths and weaknesses, or so I’ve been told 😉
Why doesn’t anyone show the last obstacle on the southern part? Right before you get back on to Sand Flats Rd. It’s kind of tough and I always want to see how others fare.
I’m pretty sure I showed every obstacle there, but it’d help me if you can tell me which waypoint in TrailsOffroad or funtreks you’re looking for. I’m filming a new video on fins this week and I can grab it if I truly didn’t cover it. The wall is the toughest obstacle on the southern half tho.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I’m an idiot. I don’t know how I missed it but it was in there. It was “The Wall” that I was talking about. 🤦🏻♂️ Thank you for the reply though.
No worries! I took my stock TJ Rubicon on fins last week (needed the rear locker). I’m taking my JL on it this week. I think the JL will perform similarly to my JK from this video. I don’t believe I used lockers with the JK on the wall, but it has been a while so I don’t recall.
Hope I said that as I filmed this long ago. However, thanks for watching and I’m glad you guys had a great time!
I freaking love how you tell us when you use 4 LOW and Locking Diff 🤩 nobody takes the time to do that
I really appreciate that… I try my best to make these useful.
Thanks!
Pretty cool to see three different generations of wranglers out wheeling together! Always fun to see the differences between them!
Yeah, I do too! I was talking with Stan Fuller (CJ2A youtuber) and we were talking about shooting together a while ago... but then I realized he’d out wheel the 💩 out of me lol. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to point out the obstacles that have bypasses. By far one of the best trails guide video out there.
Thank you! I’m trying and I’m still learning how to do them. Using a stock wrangler definitely helps me see things a little differently tho. Thanks for watching!
Great vid! Love the captions along the way!
Thank you! Trying to blend guide and story has been a challenge, but I always felt the guide aspects were key to these videos.
Glad I could help and you’ll love it!
You’ll love it! Sounds like a good jeep... thanks for watching!
heading to Moab in Feb. Hope it's dry and not snowing. Excellent video.
Hopefully, thinking I’ll be there again too! Snow if fun, but sketchy. It at least dries out pretty quickly. Have a blast and thanks for watching!
Awesome! Have fun!
I like to film different vehicles and I feel smaller vehicles put more emphasis on drivers! Thanks for watching!
Great video.
The recon should have the skids you need. If you have the hemi, the oil pan can use one I believe tho. Anyway, have a great time!
@@coloradomallcrawlers - looking forward to watching more!
The wife and I had her 14 JKU out there last fall and I'll be there in April for TJ Fest. Utah is so beautiful. Thanks for the video.
It’s definitely a fun trail! Thanks for checking this one out!
Just came upon this video and wanted you to know how much I enjoyed it. Plan to visit Moab next year in a Bronco but our Wrangler would be fun too except it only has two doors, and the Bronco has four doors and more room, which we need for family members. Thanks.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! You’ll have a blast!
Awesome video. I’m going to Moab in a couple weeks with my 2018 Tacoma and the video is perfect for giving me and idea if my truck will make it or not
It’ll make it and have a blast! Thanks for watching!
In spring 2022, I did Fins n things in a stock 2017 Ford Expedition King Ranch. It has an off road mode that shows your pitch and yaw angles as well as amazing 4WD modes that helped a lot. So fun.
That sounds awesome! Glad you had fun!
Very cool!
Completed fins and things last year in my stock trailhawk.
Excellent!
Nice, I remember watching people off roading from the views at Canyonlands and it looked like a ton of fun.
Yeah it’s a fun place for so many activities! Thanks for watching!
Just did this trail a week ago with my stock 99 Jeep TJ, was awesome!
That’s great!
Great video planning a trip next year and planned to do Fin's and Things also in a stock vehicle, JT however ,should scrap on a few on those but looks fun regardless.Thanks.
You’ll have a blast! Thanks for watching!
Very reasonable! I do think my 2 door tows my camper so easily and smoothly tho, but it’s only 1750lbs. Thanks for your feedback and for watching!
Awesome! I just got a Jeep a couple months ago and can’t wait to go off roading
Thanks for watching! I’ll check out your stuff and if you’re ever in Colorado, let’s take your jeep wheeling!
Thanks!
Great video and one of the best guides I've seen for details.
Thank you! I’ve been trying to make them informative and now I’m working on making them equally entertaining… but I’ve got a lot to learn.
Great video! One of the best I’ve seen on fins. You convinced me to give it a try!
Thank you! Enjoy the trail!
2.5 weeks and we will be there. Stockish 2012 Grand Cherokee. This trail is on my list. Thanks for the video, good job.
Glad it helped! Have fun and thanks for watching!
You do fantastic work. I don’t leave home without funtreks. ! 👍
Thank you! Absolutely, great books!
Woowee some of those obstacles, sliding around? Yikes! Nicely edited, i really enjoyed the ending part with the interviews.
Thanks for the video. Very informative and helpful. We're planning a trip in September from Texas. Pretty excited.
You will have an awesome time and I’m glad it helped! That’s my goal with these, trying to improve them with each upload! I personally am looking forward to returning to Moab myself, but probably when the snow starts here! Thanks for watching!
Loved it , thanks! I'm going out on the 16th of Aug. w/a rental stock wrangler I'm going to do this trail.
Joseph Compnotta nice! Have fun! It shouldn’t be much of an issue as I didn’t use lockers on the trail.
Great Video I look forward to coming out there one day and running those trails.
Thank you! Yea, I’m hoping this Coronavirus mess goes away soon so Moab can financially recover as they definitely want and need you (and I) to run their trails! Thanks for checking out the video!
Owned a TJ, then TJ Unlimited, both stick shift. Loved my stretch TJ. Now drive a JLU Sport Auto which is great for my older body and passengers.
Yeah, all great vehicles there! I might add a 4 door auto, but that’d be for remote start as I work in the cold and it’d be great to warm up the vehicle. Thanks for watching!
Planning on taking my modded Montero through this trail in May. Should be fun!
Heck Yeah! Have a blast!
We have some of the world’s best trails out here in Southern California, but we sure don’t have those gorgeous views. Nice video bud, you got a new sub.
One day I’ll hit those! Thanks for watching!
@@coloradomallcrawlers well let me know when you do! I’ve got an XJ, JLU sport 4 door, and WK2. I’m ready to play!
I know it's not the best rig for this sort of stuff, but did real well in Colorado, well except on some switchbacks that were a pain because of the turning radius lol.
baloghlcb nice! Go big or go home! I’m all for wheeling what you got so heck yeah! Thanks for watching!

Same here buddy! That was a fun run and I hope you liked the video... I don’t have anyone’s contact info from that day, but since you guys are the stars, your opinion matters the most on this one. Hope to see ya in Colorado sometime!
Planning my trip in July , I have a stocked 12 Rubicon as well with DuraTrac AT tires. Hope I make it through
Ricardo Garcia you’ll be fine... Jeeps are extremely capable machines! Colorado trails are epic also so if you have extra time, swing over here. Thanks for watching!
At the send it section, got to go in a a very small angle and bump that tiny ledge. It's spooky, but works
I need to see that, but figured it’d be something like that. Thanks!
@@coloradomallcrawlers if I had it recorded I would post it... when we were there it was me and my wife on a solo trip, didn't get much recorded what so ever. But I remember that little tricky hill. The longer wheelbase on my gladiator prolly helped out some as well
Fins and Things took the paint right off my rear bumper on the "butt scratcher". I blame bad spotting. My favorite trail in Moab so far.
Yea, it’s definitely a fun one! The one I really want to get is Kane Creek, but I need to prep for that one. Thanks for watching!
Love the nacho color it really pops out on the trails
Yeah, I use to be a green jeep jeeper, but the popping out is why I’ve stuck with yellow hues. Plus, it hides pinstripes well. Thanks for watching!
I would love to go through one of those roads one day! Make me want to get a jeeb
Thank you for watching and I definitely recommend a jeep!
Solo Assassin dude, you’ll get there!
Dewie’s Colorado I know in due time just takes some hard work and time.
My wife did it in her Sport model with 33's with me spotting her. She'd never driven off road before that day.
Awesome!
Dewie’s Colorado lmao... I can’t blame u there. 😂😂😂😂😂
I somehow just found this video. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I haven’t done Klondike bluffs, but from what I know of it, I would say it is. Thanks for watching!
4 Doors! Scott prefers 2. I did talk him into getting the 4 door one we have now.😀
If I can get this new yet more stable job, I may be adding a JLU Willy’s off road ok lease to film future trail guides with.
Great stuff! I like the multi-shot editing style! (Could maybe pick up the pace a skosh. Hey, you asked!)
Thank you! Yea, I can pick up the pace, it moves faster after the 4 minute mark, but I should have shot the south loop differently. Thank you for watching!
Awesome video! I have more confidence on doing Fins & Things in 2021. Thanks for sharing.
You’ll love it! Thanks for watching!
Awesome video! Love it! Keep up a good work brother!
Thank you! I’m trying to make sure they don’t lack in quality although I know some are better than others! Thanks for watching!
@@coloradomallcrawlers I am putting an Aussie locker in the front do they work well out there?
Nice video, helped convince my wife to take this trail in our gladiator. I hope the departure angle doesn't hurt us too bad. Did the Toyota ever make the spot where you said your not a Yota hater? 🤔lol
You should be fine here... you’ll bump the rear a little, but I think Jeep beefed that part up as that was a given to happen. Lol, this was a while ago, so I don’t recall what spot I said that, but if it was the spot with the bypass, he ended up taking the bypass. Just needed better tires I’m sure. Thanks for watching and have fun!
Awesome guide! Thanks
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Loving the videos! Using them to scout ideas for my upcoming trip this early may 2023;
Stock ‘894runner, ‘88 pathfinder 2dr, ‘88 d21, 05 ford ranger, a 92 geo metro and 1500 Silverado.
@@coloradomallcrawlers thank you! I think that’ll be the one. Looks like an awesome run, whether you’re lost or not!
Great video! Nicely done
Thank you! I’m trying, but I love yours! Maybe we can wheel together in the future!
Dewie’s Colorado we will have to if we ever leave our houses again! I can’t wait to hit the trails!
I’m with you! I have one more Moab video, a failed trail guide that turned into a recovery video. Other than that, I haven’t wheeled since the lockdown... I can’t wait either!! Argh!
This is great! What gopro did you have mounted to the orange JK? The stabilization was great!
(but its soo beautiful!)
Thoughts on the video:
I'm still missing the last line or two of half the pop-up texts, more so when you have the 3-way split of Jeeps screen AND a pop-up text! (have to decide what to look at, text or Jeeps doing the obstacles) (maybe try some voice over in place of, or supplementing, the text in some places?)
Voice-over volume could maybe be a touch higher.
I love fancy pieces of paper! I still have the project file in LumaFusion so I’ll try that when I get home! Thanks!!
Bravo. Or should I say, GNARLY bro!
Thanks!
Some of that trail looked intense. I’m sure our Jeep could handle it but Yikes!!
I’m sure yours could too! It’s definitely fun to try... off roading doesn’t break Jeeps. Maybe Toyotas 😜
@@coloradomallcrawlers thanks, and the tire sizes are listed. Thanks for the content and reply, I appreciate it!
I don’t think you’d have any issues… I’d do it in my stock Liberty KJ. Thanks for watching!
great job,
Thank you!
Saw this posted on the Mile High 4x4 page, I wonder how my '17 F150 would do on 33's out there?
So I saw a bunch of stockish gladiators running it. It’s likely doable! I think like Riley, the biggest issue would be not having an armored rear. Thank you for watching it!
Wheel base length will be a factor
I did it with my stock '17 raptor. I scraped the exhausts and hitch a few times, but nothing bad.
Nice video!
Thank you! Hope it helped if you are planning on running it!
really good thank you!
Thank you!
@@coloradomallcrawlers Would love to have ya. Wow, 2 jobs? Keep you patience. This too will pass. Hope you enjoy our videos, made to make you smile
Wonder if this is doable with stock 2021 Bronco Outerbanks. If taking easiest routes and bypasses
I believe so as I understand the badlands is rubicon equivalent and the non-badlands models are like non-rubicons. I know a non-rubicon wrangler can do this trail without issue so you should be fine! Have fun!
We own a 4 door. I can see advantages and disadvantages to both...
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
an awesome trail! 😍
It sure is!
Think a stock KL Trailhawk could do this trail with no damage? Thanks!
Thanks! Now just have to convince the wife to go for it. Haha
Mason Acheson Good luck!
Nice video, so, when you say you can do it in a stock vehicle, do you mean stock jeep or stock rubicon ? Big difference. Thanks
Thank you! Stock Wrangler. I didn’t require my lockers to do this trail. I’d probably try it in a stock Cherokee Trailhawk, but I’m not certain it’s approach angle would work.
Did you have to air down at all to do this? I want to get out and do it but I’ve never taken my wheels down in pressure due to me not having beadlocks
I’ll do 30-25 to soften the ride on washboard prone trails.
you did good not much on subscribing but will now, you may not be a toyota hater but the driver of it might be now, lol
Thank you for the reply though.
No worries! I took my stock TJ Rubicon on fins last week (needed the rear locker). I’m taking my JL on it this week. I think the JL will perform similarly to my JK from this video. I don’t believe I used lockers with the JK on the wall, but it has been a while so I don’t recall.
