The way Dr. Del Rosario speaks about the divinity of Christ is so thoughtful, and it puts into perspective the different aspects of Christ that we should be considering when looking at the text and history. I love that he emphasizes that all sins are equally offensive in the eyes of the Lord. He makes me think about how often we, especially in America, cover sins that aren't ours to cover, as He is the ultimate judge. I'm eager to learn more about how the Lord views sins, and how we as Christians must also view them.

Wow! My mind was blown away. There were many great takeaways. What stood out to me was Jesus did not need to pray to God to heal or forgive sins. He just did it. I did not think about that before. By Jesus doing that, it truly shows He has a divine authority cause what man can do this? Before you approached this statement when you talked about Jesus healing, I thought to myself well the Apostles healed too. After the statement about Jesus did not prayed to do this things or use the word God, I realized the Apostles used the name of Jesus Christ to healed people. This actually gave me confident in my faith even more. I plan to watch this video a few more times and study it because I do come across people who believe Jesus is just a prophet alone and thats how he was able to heal people. I will be able to use this when I evangelize to other Christian circles or Muslims who do not believe Jesus has any ownership of being God.
    Thank you!!

I was deeply impressed by Dr. Rosario's insightful analysis, wherein he skillfully linked together Mark 14:62, Psalm 110, and Daniel 7 to illustrate Jesus' unparalleled authority. Through this connection, he compellingly argued for Jesus' divinity. It's a profound affirmation that Jesus not only claimed authority but also asserted His identity as God incarnate.

Thank you Dr. Rosario for reminding us of the extent to which we can confirm Jesus is who he says he is. I found it very encouraging hearing the different verses of who God is in the Old Testament and then Jesus confirming that in himself in the New Testament. I love learning about the different ways scholars delve into historical accuracy, and I think it was so cool hearing about rules like multiple attestation. It helps solidify in the mind of the reader that this isn't just a random coincidence but in fact God breathed scripture.

I really like how you pointed to the fact that the historical Jesus was a known miracle worker, and how you dove into what it meant to His culture when He said "Your sins are forgiven." I especially appreciated your explanation of what that statement meant to Jesus' enemies, and I think that is a great point that can be brought up in conversations related to Jesus' claim to be divine.

I really loved the section on implicit claims! I think there are a lot of people who argue to say that 'Jesus didn't say this,' or 'Jesus didn't say that,' which may be true, but there is so much that is implied to know that He was telling what was true. It can be difficult to have a conversation with these types of unbelievers to get them to process what we already know to be true, but they did not grow up to understand. The part where you said that Jesus performed a miracle that they could see to get them to believe in something that they couldn't see also stuck out to me. It makes me think of when Jesus calms the storm, and the disciples wonder who He is that He has authority over nature as well. They have forgotten what He has performed in front of their very eyes! I'm sure there are plenty of believers who know that He is fully capable of turning our lives around, and yet we are all in disbelief when it happens.

Really good explanation overall! A small but new thing that stuck out to me was when he mentioned how the existence of a claim, is not the same as the directness of a claim. (17:42)
it helps to sort of answer the broader question of why Jesus chose to say things in certain ways as well sort of answers how Jesus' divine authority can be answered in more ways than one, which we may have to decipher at times.

Watching this video reminded me of how important it is to consider the skepticism of others when ministering. When we know where someone is at in their beliefs, like Jesus, we can then create conversations that are personally influential to our audience. I have a good amount of friends who are easily skeptical, and sometimes it can be hard to figure out what to say to them when trying to talk to them about theological aspects of the Bible. They have an understanding of who Jesus is, but do not let that reality change their life; they do not let Him have any authority in their lives. I liked how Dr. Del Rosario shared how when Jesus healed the lame man, He gave both the man and the audience something they could see. Jesus knew what they needed, the man needed to be healed and forgiven and the audience needed to know that Jesus was the Son of Man, they needed to know about His authority. I think following Jesus' example of speaking truth over others about who Jesus is, while remembering the type of evidence we have, can help me enter these conversations with more confidence and clarity about what the Bible really says about who Jesus is.

This was a good talk! It felt just like I was in class. In the past I have often wondered about how to answer questions like "Did Jesus claim to be divine?". Now I finally feel like I have a good answer! Yes, He did. I think that the wedding analogy that was given was especially helpful. Just like you don't have to directly say "I am married", there are other ways that you make that claim (with your ring). In the same way, Jesus didn't have to make a verbal claim to be God, telling people their sins were forgiven was plenty, let alone the other indirect indicators.

I find it to be really interesting the emphasis that Dr Del Rosario puts on the idea that no man has ever claimed to have the authority of forgiving sins. This truly does show that Jesus is not just another priest, but THE priest. I also really appreciated the marriage illustration in that saying you are married is not the only way to resemble that. Jesus did not have to say "I am God" in order for that statement to be true. He proved it with his divine authority. As mentioned in the video, Jesus just did these things because he had the authority to do so. He did not have to pray and ask for it, he just did it. This shows that Jesus truly is God. Thank you Dr. Del Rosario for your insight.

I remember asking this exact question when I was 9 or 10 years old of "Did Jesus really say he was God?" and talking to my Mom about it. She explained some of this in less in-depth terms but I am so glad people are talking about it and explaining it so thoroughly. Since then, I've continued to delve into the Bible, and seen how so much of what Jesus said and did pointed to his divine claim, these two key instances being the capstones. It really matters that we know that what we're saying is not based on blind trust but on an informed faith. Del Rosario really helps give people this information.

It's amazing seeing the claims Jesus made and considering not only how great a deal they are today, but how they were an even greater deal during the time based on that culture. For example, the claim that Jesus will be seated at the right hand of God! I never considered how greatly debated that concept was during the time on whether someone will sit at the right hand of God and on who even could. Whereas today, that subject is not something we talk about as much. But nevertheless, we know of Jesus' divine authority and power but also his love, and we praise him for these things!

Your approach resonated, especially when engaging skeptics who dismiss John's account, emphasizing the multi-dimensional portrayal of divinity in alternative gospels, facilitating meaningful evangelization efforts. I also appreciate your defense of statements directly from Bart Ehrman. This provided clarity and strengthened understanding. The process of introducing the verse in proverbs how jesus had authority on earth to forgive sins, but this authority was given to Him by God. Wow! Thank you for sharing this, Dr. Del Rosario! I appreciate hearing from you on this topic. It’s so encouraging that churches are still eager to bring this teaching into their services. A key insight I gained from this video was seeing all the ways Jesus proves His divinity to us, apart from just using words. While He uses those too, He is still able to prove it through Himself as a person. Whether it was in healing or the action of dying and being risen again, He showed us through His action.

It was so fascinating to learn how Jesus never explicitly announced his divinity, but he still clearly communicated it through implicit claims! I had never thought about how a Jewish priest wouldn't say "Your sins are forgiven" before. Watching this video gave me a deeper understanding of the importance of Jesus' divinity. I appreciate how you tackle the accusation that Jesus was not God and bring examples to show that he in fact was God. You did a great job of showing that Jesus claimed to have authority over everything. These claims are not just merely human claims, they are divine claims! We see this play out when Jesus heals a lame man but before he heals him, he tells him his sins are forgiven (Mark 2:1-12). I really liked the many examples you gave, from the Bible, of ways Jesus healed people. We can see from these examples that no one else could do these things. It is because of his divine authority that he could accomplish these things! This video also gave me insight into what skeptics think and why they believe what they believe!

Personally, I now feel I have a better understanding of this topic. I can now in a loving way, just as Dr Del Rosario said, "walk people through this story." This means that when people struggle with this topic, I can point them to the gospel, which shows that "Jesus is more than a man; he is God almighty." I like that quote that Dr Del Rosario says because it is true and powerful.

Thank you for sharing this; it has brought to mind some of the things that you taught in our Bible Intro class last semester with the process of using historical evidence to prove the existence of God. I have a lot of friends who claim that Jesus wasn't God as part of their reasons that Christianity is false, so being able to take the historical approach to help them understand his claims are true is more likely to end with success. The most interesting point you made was when you pointed out the fallacies in Bart Ehrman's argument that Jesus was only claiming priestly authority, only using the verses where Jesus makes his claim for biblical context, and using historical evidence to support it. Overall, it was a great reminder of all I've learned in your classes!

After watching this video thoroughly, I got many new insights, especially in section 24:51. God confirms that He is the one who has the authorization to judge the sins committed by humans. I loved hearing the many ways we can see Jesus' divinity in the Bible. It was extremely helpful to hear just how strong of a case we can make for his divinity through historical reasoning. I learned that even in secular texts, we can clearly see that Jesus did miracles and that his claim for divinity was unique to any other "miracle workers" of the day. As this case is being made, I love that Del Rosario referenced the fact that we have to face that either Jesus was a lunatic, liar, or, he really was God. It's good to learn this as I know that through my conversations with unbelievers, so many people have a hard time truly believing that Jesus was a real man and he was God, but these are such good, solid points to make!

"Thank you for this enlightening presentation! One key insight I gained from watching this is the intricate balance between Jesus's humanity and divinity portrayed in the Gospels. It's fascinating to see how Jesus's words and actions, as depicted in the New Testament, point towards his claim of being more than just a mere man. This nuanced understanding opens up rich avenues for spiritual conversations, especially when engaging with those who may question or doubt the divinity of Christ. Exploring these themes not only deepens our understanding of Jesus's identity but also invites others to consider the profound implications of his message for their own lives. Looking forward to continuing these conversations in my personal evangelism efforts and engaging with others outside the church. Thanks again for providing such valuable insights!

I appreciated you diving into Ehrmann's theory that Jesus only claimed a priestly prerogative is not true because there is no evidence that a Jewish priest claimed that a person’s sins are forgiven. I can use this when evangelizing because many times when I share the Gospel, people believe Jesus lived on the earth and that he may have had some authority, but they do not believe He is God. I can share with them Mark 2 and mention that Jesus was the only one by his own authority that states a person’s sins are forgiven when He didn’t pray or mention God because He is God. Jesus also did not sacrifice or repent as a priest did. Thank you for this powerful message!

Loved this!! I think you do a really good job explaining how Jesus does in fact claim to be God with out ever having to say it explicitly. He says things like "I am" which is his way of claiming indirectly to be God. But, then when he rose from the dead and did exactly what he said he would do, that just solidified and validates everything he claimed to be. I didn't even think about "Jesus never claiming to be God directly" as an argument as to why he isn't the Messiah. However, it is hasty to make that assumption because Jesus does claim indirectly on multiple occasions to be God! Thank you!!

Such as the wedding ring, and we as Christians have those signs too such as baptism! He doesn’t have to say specific things, what He did and said shows without the need to say it blatantly. Of course he did say, “I am” at times, but All of his signs still showed who he was. Once again I also love all the paintings and art you use throughout your lectures, talks, podcasts, ect!

This was a really interesting video! Growing up in the church, I think it's really easy to take Biblical literacy for granted, even within America. I volunteer with preschoolers at a Christian school, and their hunger for knowing Jesus and all the Bible stories is the absolute sweetest, but we also live in an age where young and old alike have so many questions and are looking for answers. I hold fast to 1 Peter 3:15-16, to give answers with understanding and patience, because the answers are there. It just takes a little digging.

Jesus had authority over everything and emphasized that He was THE one with authority on earth and in Heaven. He was the one who could forgive sins, and the one that could condemn and judge sins. Combining Daniel 7 and Psalm 110 showed that both parts fit together and gave a glimpse at what THE Son of Man referred to. The fact that He can pardon the offenses of those who trust in Him for the forgiveness of their sins and judge the world for the sins it commits shows the authority he has. Seeing how Philippians and Isaiah connect highlighting the fact that He is Lord with authority over all authority was really cool. Understanding the fullness of His authority helps people understand his claims better. We can see the authority by everything He says He is or can do that then happen. When talking about Jesus to others, being able to show them the vastness of his authority and how He is truly over all things, helps them to see God for who He truly is.

It is inspiring to learn about the evidence that clearly demonstrates how Jesus claimed to be divine. I think it is important that instead of simply declaring that he is God, Jesus showed his authority through his actions and through appealing to the cultural understanding of the religious leaders. While some Christians may believe that Jesus did not explicitly claim to be God, I think it is powerful to explain the meaning conveyed through Jesus' miracles. He effectively claimed to have authority over all of reality! As you explained the cultural context of Jesus' trial, I realized how significant it was to understand that although Caesar Augustus and other rulers were worshiped as gods, none of them were seen as having authority over all reality as Jesus claimed. His claims were unique and were of ultimate significance! Thank you for providing a clear explanation of how we can understand Jesus' divine claims.

I was really intrigued by the fact that there were no other religious or political figures that stated " your sins are forgiven". These are just one of many instances that Jesus just flat out acted as God and showed that he had the power of God to do so. Though this is small observation, it goes to show that Jesus never had to ask permission he simply acted because he had the divine power. This has shown me how important it to know these sort of things in history because it helps us to have a better understanding of who God is.

I loved how you pulled both A and B together with if Jesus claimed to have divine authority on earth and divine authority in Heaven then he has authority over all of reality. Jesus wouldn't have been called a blasphemer if all he was doing was claiming to have just a human priestly authority. I think it was really helpful to see just how many examples are in the Bible of this. I think often times it is very easy to know that truth without knowing where examples are in the Bible and so it will be good when talking to people outside of the church to have those examples to point out to back those claims. This was very interesting, Dr. Del Rosario!!

It is so neat that Jesus, unlike all priests, prophets, and other miracle-workers, was the only one to claim to forgive sins. I love the wisdom from the quote, “We shouldn’t confuse the existence of a claim with the directness of a claim.” The Jewish people at this time knew that only God could forgive sins, and so the fact that Jesus did not mention or pray to God separately when He forgave the paralytic's sins points to the fact that He is implicitly claiming to be God. So, Jesus did claim to be God and He shows that by the authority that He has in His miraculous works over nature and in His statements which the culture at the time would understand as His claiming to be divine.

Thank you, Dr. Del Rosario. It was an interesting topic and I understood it well. I didn’t know that 43% of evangelicals believe that, "Jesus was a great teacher, but he was not God." I just wonder what they believe, and why they can call themselves evangelicals if Jesus is not God. I thought I needed to learn about Christianity in America. I have some opportunities to share the Gospel with the American people, and especially I’m an international, so I have to understand American culture, characteristics, and thoughts. Anyway, If we read the Bible correctly, we can understand that Jesus can actually forgive my sins, Jesus is God, and Jesus is the Lord.

It is so amazing to see and learn more reliable evidences that clearly shows that Jesus has divine authority. He never actually explicitly announced His divinity, but He showed and communicated that through implicit claims and actions! One example is that He is a miracle worker, but a unique kind of miracle worker. What makes Him a unique kind of miracle worker points us to this claim of His divine authority. Jesus claimed to have divine authority. Another one is the power and the authority when Jesus says: “Your sins are forgiven” and how much that meant to the Jewish culture back then. I thought this video really expanded my knowledge and how helpful that was! I think I could use this video when answering questions regards to Jesus’ divinity and authority.

I appreciate what you mentioned about Jesus’ statement about His divinity. When I talked to Muslim people, they tried to challenge my faith by saying that Jesus never claims that He is God. I really like the way you explained about the difference between existence of claims and directness of claims. In the Bible, there are good number of passages Jesus claims that He is God even though it is not direct.

    • @apologeticsguy
      @apologeticsguy  9 місяців тому

Yes, these are good texts to discuss with Muslims. Mark 2 is especially good as a starting point because the Quran agrees that Jesus was a miracle worker but doesn’t contain any actual stories of him doing miracles. It’s easy to point a Muslim friend to the healing of the paralytic but then note how Jesus makes a divine claim in the midst of a miracle. Thanks for watching!

The part asking the question "Did Jesus have to blatantly say 'I am God' to have claimed to be God?" is foundational to the larger question of "did Jesus say he was God?" I think a lot of people get tripped up by the fact the Jesus didn't claim to be God by saying those exact words. What people fail to realize is that to his Jewish audience, he practically did say that he was God in such a blatant way. It's just hard for us to understand what he was saying because of the cultural differences between today and first century Israel.
