I have 2000 civic lx and I'm trying to remove distributor rotor but does not have set screw..I can spin it for eternity and still no screw..is the screw somewhere else besides there
Most have socket and phillips screws. Can also use small vice grips, to brake them loose. Would spray some wd40, and wait 10 minutes. Worst case, dremel a slot in the screw, or just cut the heads off.
Hi there! Thanks for posting this! I have a distributor rotor that does not want to come off for anything, any recommendations? More gun oil? Let the gun oil penetrate for longer? Lemme know what you think. Thanks so much!
You should not just throw parts at it. Need to look at the condition of the cap and rotor. Also, trouble shoot out why it is not starting. Often it is the ignition coil, or control module that is bad.
well the ignition works cuz it is giving spark but idl if the current is strong enuf cuz i allready checked the cap and the terminals are worn out and the rotor has little burn marks on it soo im thinking it just needs a new cap and rotor since im still getting spark at the plugs
For safety yes. For convenience, no. Going to have to reset you clock, and most likely your radio. Your ecu may reset too, but it will relearn without you knowing it.
What year, make, and model are you working on? Also which engine do you have. Assuming by "cam" you mean camshaft. Are you trying to adjust the camshaft, or the valves, or timing?
@@VictorRodriguez-nq9xc your doing well. If the screw is out, you will need to spy wd-40 as well as you can on the shaft and wait about 5 minutes. If it is stuck to hard, you will have to break it off. When you put the new one on, put a thin coat of anti size on it, so it will not get stuck.
My rotor won't come off but does rattle a bit in place with screw out. Too scared to bust the rotor in case I end up with no transport. I have a spare rotor but "will I end up with part of the old rotor stuck in place?" Want to strip the dizzie and put in a new seal.
Thanks, I will try that. In the meantime I made a discovery. I realized that the dizzie cap's ventilation was blocked --- Somebody posted that a certain truck has ventilation problem in its distributor because of a small window with mesh that gets blocked by debris over time. Somebody else said that removing water and corrosion inside his civic's dizzie cap was becoming a weekly necessity. I realized that the dizzie cap I bought a few years ago has stopped ventilating properly. It has a sort of 'chimney' with a very small cap on it that allows some air to pass by not seating completely. I replaced that tiny cap with a 2" piece of plastic tube and hey presto, the car is running smoothly for a month (in a very damp winter) with no more removals of dizzie cap to clean the posts inside it. I still would like to take the whole dizzie apart some time and clean it up. Maybe in summer.
Thanks Jim. Replaced my rotor and engine purrs like never before.
This is one of the most descriptive and helpful videos on UA-cam for cap and rotor replacement lol
Thank you for this! I love simple teaching videos, very helpful
Thank you thank you thank you. Came to this video to figure out why the rotor wasn't sliding off. Thanks!
Your welcome :)
Thank you for this informative video, I’ll be working on the tune up for my ek!, wish me luck!
How do I bump it? Am I just turning the key in the ignition? With clutch in ?
Yes
What is that little filter on the top left of the engine block? I don't have that i think there's a hose going into the intake there.
You are right. You don't have that filter. You have a hose running to your intake. It keeps my intake from getting all gunked up.
Make this video please

Some cheap distributors are not meant to be worked on. They just want you to buy a new distributor rather then working on it.
Bump? Like as in put the ignition in the on or start position? I’m assuming the cap has to be attached/secured to the distributor?
Welcome new youtube user. Starter can bump with out a distributor.
Is there any other way to take screw off cus my screw got stripped

I have the same car as you and my car cranks but won't start. I have fuel and spark. What do you recommend I look into
+PresidentGuevara Look at your spark plugs. Also, which spark plugs do you have in it?
+PresidentGuevara How did you verify you are getting fuel?

Have you checked for scan codes?
How do your spark plugs look? Which plugs do you have in there?
no i havent checked for no codes all though the check engine lights on but i dnt think its nothing major what do u think it might be
Do I unplug the battery before doing this?
