The tool for the Kam snap is supposed to put the pressure in the center. That is how the point gets smashed to keep the front and back together.
Very helpful tips - thank you! I've been a bit scared of hammering rivets. So far I've only used Kam Snaps, but sometimes I want a heavier duty fastener.
I'm afraid of hitting my fingers, lol.

Need to clarify that what part of the rivet goes on the inside of the bag?
I don't think any other punch tool meant for that particular rivet would work , except the tool with the set.

If you have the KAM KX hand held press or the table press, she has dies for rivets, that work great.

Hi Caroline, when making the holes for my rivets I use my cropperdile (from my card making days) and I also use my Kam Snap Press for squishing the rivets together, and yes it does damage the back of the rivet. It would be great if it was possible to put a black concave bit on both sides of the press, then it wouldn't damage the rivet at all.

Thanks for this video. I needed to install rivets for a wristlet and I have a similar rivet set from Amazon and couldn't figure out how to make the holes with the provided tool.
The reason you can't use the snap cam pliers is because the purpose of it is to smoosh the post on the plastic snap so it melds around the inside piece of the snap. But really, that's the only reason it leaves that mark. Thankyou for demo'ing the hand held rivet kit from Amazon. I was wondering if it would make sense to start there. I'm only doing purses as gifts and for friends and I think the rivet press with "die kit sold separately" is overkill.

Hello, your confidence in this is inspiring. I'd like to ask, have you ever done non sewn pressed on fasteners? I wish I could post a photo, to show you, but don't see how. The thing is, my camera case lost one of the fasteners, the one with the hole. And I'd like to put one back on. Any help is appreciated. Thx.
Hello. I have a theoretical question about rivets and textiles. Will rivets works as a fastener on upholstery projects, where i cant use a staplegun, because the staples dont close in on themselfes, on the back end, of the material my upholstery is suppose to attach to. I think there are special dies you put in the kam snap tool that is just for rivets.

You can, but I don’t find it necessary. None of my rivets have ever fallen off.
Will the rivets work on denim? I need to rivet a detached denim belt loop that was originally sewn on to my jeans.
After clamping the rivet together, is the backside of the rivet smooth or does it have any sharp edges?
