    I've made these in the past and they haven't worked as well as this one does. I'm using this exact design for my greenhouse and it's working great plus I feel safer by using the utensil holder. Fantastic idea and thanks for clearing up the flash point temperatures with this, it's something I did have concerns about before watching this.

      Thanks for the comment Bobby and I’m glad it’s working for you. I can say it worked for me all winter with zero issues. Good idea for the green house in my opinion since the plants put out oxygen and the candles carbon dioxide. Perfect scenario for both 👍🏼

    Thanks for this instruction. I learned that when you use tea candles that have a clear plastic case, the plastic will catch fire as the candle burns down so I only use tea lights that have metal cases.

      I have never seen them with a plastic case and that’s horrible. I wouldn’t have used them either. The ones in the description have metal cases and a link where I got them. I have just about used my first box and have had zero issues so they work great.

    I was so grateful to come across this video. Our heating and hot water had broken down and it was going to take days of frozen weather before we could get the system repaired or replaced and we were both unwell. The materials for this heater were inexpensive and easy to find and, with the clear instructions given in this video, it was simple to make. I made three in the end and they made a huge difference to the comfort of our home, and I was struck by how economical these heaters are to run. I can leave them safely on an uncluttered window sill for hours without checking them. I have been using just three little candles in each. They look good as well as heating the home very well and giving a cosy glow. When our heating has been fixed I think I'll keep using these heaters anyway so we can turn down the heating a bit and save money.

      I’m so sorry to hear about the trouble you had with your heating and hot water. I am also so glad you found my video and were able to get some warmth back in the house.
      I do use 4 candles in mine and have had zero issues and feel very safe now with it running. I have two one each for two different rooms.
      I live alone and the heating is so expensive I just got use to living in the cooler temperatures in the winter. I heat my home to 55 degrees and supplement with the candle heaters and get the rooms most used up to 65-70 degrees from 55 degrees.
      That’s more than warm enough for me because I bought warm and cozy clothing for winter. Flannel shirts from Sam’s Club that are lined with that warm fuzzy stuff in the arms and chest area. And sweatpants line with the same from Amazon.
      With those on I am plenty warm enough all winter with the candles. I also agree it makes for a nice ambiance at night with the glow.
      Just for your information, I would bet you could have put small pots of water using a metal pot filled with water and heated the water from the direct contact between the pot and clay pots.
      They also sell camping or hiking showers. These are made of plastic and roll up small for hiking and camping. They hold about 5 gallons of water. You could have dumped the heated water in the bag shower and hung in the shower of your home for a nice warm shower.
      Just some other info incase anything ever happens again. Here is a link on Amazon. Unniweei Solar Portable Shower Bag, 5 Gal/20L Solar Heating Camping Shower Bag with Removable Hose&On-Off Switchable Shower Head, Compact Camping Shower for Camping, Hiking, Traveling, Beach Swimming a.co/d/bURKc9T
      Can use the warm water for dishes as well. Just make sure it sets on the clay pots perfectly centered so it doesn’t fall. I am going to do a test myself to see how hot I can get the water. I will make a new video with what I learn.
      Thank you for coming back to let me know how you made out. I really appreciate the feedback as well as knowing I was able to help a little.
      That to me is exactly why I made this channel. I just love helping people:).

      My old ones are over 20 years old and finally got holes in them so when walking in the rest of the house it’s chilly.
      These are the best I’ve ever owned and why I am making a video on them. All sizes and I am not affiliated with them.

    Thanks for the information. I wish I was in the US and able to buy your Ksendalo drying rack but it's too expensive to get it shipped to the UK. If anyone from the UK reads this and cares we can get an Ikea version on sale for only £2. Much less than Amazon sells it for! So far I have the pots & the SS utensil holder. Need to get the bolt and the nuts & washers then I will be all set. :) I just need to ensure my greenhouse doesn't drop too low during these "spring nights." Just one small point I would add is that new clay pots here in the UK seem to have larger holes, so, in order to spread the load of the washer around the pot surface my OH suggested it would be prudent to get washers as big as I could. My washers are 8 thread by 50mm and give a large spread across the large poot surface.

    I was wondering what if you put that in a heavy pot without lid? the heavier the better, if around animals, maybe kids too. I was going to get my daughter to make one of these for during power outages, but she has cats, so figured, better not. I like your idea of using the utensil holder as well, seems much safer.

    • @ITSTHISEASY
      @ITSTHISEASY  10 місяців тому

      The one in the video is good enough for pets. You also could use one size larger for the top if you want as well. I have both because I made a second and only had a larger pot so the regular size I used for the outside pot is inside.
      You do get less light but that’s about the difference. I prefer the smaller pot with one smaller inside because you get some good light from it as well.
      It’s because it sits on the metal utensils holder and covers less of it. Regardless, what I have built is safe for pets and kids if you put it where little kids can’t touch it and as for animals, as long as they are not running into it knocking it over I’m positive they will leave it alone.
      You may even find your cat laying next to it for heat as well. lol 😂

      If you’re gonna sleep with it I would suggest turning it on sooner so it has a chance to warm the room for you.

    I love this setup it looks great. I'm just curious if that metal thing can be turned upside down and attached to the eye bolt? Would the candles produce soot on the metal or would it be high enough so that didn't happen?

    • @ITSTHISEASY
      @ITSTHISEASY  Рік тому +2

      That is a good question actually and I didn’t think of it.
      My hesitation is the metal heating up so much that it generates too much heat inside and possibly creates an issue.
      Possible issues, crack the pots, start a fire, burn something or someone when touching it or removing it setting it on something.
      Metal is a conductor of heat much more than a clay pot. (Example) using a metal spoon in boiling water rather than a wood spoon. You would burn yourself with the metal spoon because it conducts heat rapidly.
      I wouldn’t advise using your idea honestly. The metal container is only there to prevent a cat tail or dog tail etc from knocking over the candles starting a fire.
      The container is open at the top which allows the pots to take the heat and creat convection which is how the whole thing works.
      Blocking the heat transfer using your method in my opinion could create a catastrophic failure. I believe it could ignite the gases being produced from the candles as well but I haven’t tried it and wouldn’t advise it.
      I know the way I am using mine has been great. I have had no issues at all. If you try your method please be careful and keep an eye on it for sure. I’d feel better if you didn’t try it at all but it’s up to you.
      :)

    • @SoulcrusherNoOther
      @SoulcrusherNoOther Рік тому +1

      The reason why I asked is because I noticed there were a lot of holes in the bottom of the container and I thought that that would allow for the heat to escape.

    • @ITSTHISEASY
      @ITSTHISEASY  Рік тому +1

      @@SoulcrusherNoOther You could be correct but for certain the metal container would get far more hot with the flames from the candles directly impacting the metal. I am not sure how hot the metal would then get and what it would do to the pots or the gas being produced from the candles.
      I do like the idea and think it was smart to think of, I just don’t know the effect and don’t feel comfortable not having tried it myself.
      Also, it may be trickier placing the pot over the candles while they are burning now not knowing exactly where to place the candles unless you used a marker or something and drew a circle on the bottom pot holder so you knew where to place the candles.
      Then you would have to carefully place the entire thing over them without hitting one on accident knocking any over and possibly having an issue.
      Your idea could work but as I said, I just haven’t tried it and the way I made mine just works with no issues thus far.
      Also, if you went to change the candles your design is now top heavy and setting it on something while placing more candles could be a possible issue because now your setting the metal container on something rather than just the pots.
      I do like the idea you came up with but I am sticking with mine just because I feel safe with it and I know with my design the metal container won’t get nearly as hot as it would with your design.
      If you try yours and it works feel free to come back and let us all know :). Or just stick with this design the choice is yours :)
      Thank you for the comment and question, it helps everyone including me :)

    • @ITSTHISEASY
      @ITSTHISEASY  9 місяців тому

      Thank you for the question. It does get hot after many hours yes.
      I place mine on top of a mouse pad. This prevents the wood furniture I am using them on from getting discolored or having any issue at all.
      Think of it as a drink on furniture. You definitely want a coaster under it. It won’t burn the wood but can discolor it possibly.
      Please make sure you watch my entire video because I do explain what not to do.

      @ITSTHISEASY  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for the comment, chafing fuel has a flash point of 309 degrees Fahrenheit. I have not tried that type of fuel in a pot heater. My concern would be because it’s in a semi closed environment it could reach that temperature which then would cause the fuel to flash over meaning all the fuel is burning at the same time which could result in a fire in your home. I would keep a watch over this if you do try it to see how hot the inside the pots are getting. You can use the same temperature thing I used in my video. Please be careful whatever you decide. The tea candles work for me and work well without the fear of fire with my design. Good luck but please be careful and see if there are any other videos on UA-cam doing what your trying to do. I also like the candles because they last 8 hours which I don’t think you will get from your fuel. I’d use the candles if I were you but good luck.

      No, just keep the door cracked or a window cracked. People from the beginning of time have been sleeping with candles burning but what I am saying is. They do use oxygen to stay lit. Every flame is alive and the source of its life just like ours is Oxygen.
      So think of it as another person sleeping in your room. Just leave a door cracked or window cracked. Then there will be plenty of Oxygen for everyone.
      I would say your room door because it’s less cold than the outside in the winter.
      Honestly, I do not sleep with mine on. I like it cool when I sleep and with blankets on I am more than fine.
      I keep my house at 55 degrees all winter here in New England. But I’ll use the candle heater for my den during the day.

    I didn't get why you need two pots and why just one isn't enough.

      Two pots create the convection you can’t see happening because heat is invisible. When it heats the second pot it creates a Radiator effect which lasts longer than just one pot and also now you have two pots radiating heat out in the room.
      Think of it like this. A candle in a room by itself creates no heat. Put it under a pot and it does get the pot hot which will radiate heat. But everyone knows heat rises. So when it does in from the first pot the heat would just escape and be no better than the candle.
      But the heat rises out of that pot into the second pot trapping it and heating the pot before it escapes both pots are heating up and creating a radiation effect.
      It’s the radiation of the heat that doesn’t escape in the air that heats the room. The same principle works in a wood stove. The fire heats the steel or cast iron and then it is the metal that heats the room not the fire. 🔥
      The wood stove traps the heat and heats the metal. Then it becomes a radiator that heats your house.
      A fireplace lets most of the heat go up the chimney and unless it has a metal enclosure in the front…. You’re wasting all the heat up the chimney.
      Add a cast iron or steel insert into your existing fireplace and now the heat heats the metal and radiates into the home. Add a fan and the heat is pushed through the home even better.
      I hope this helps you understand the reason for the second pot.
      Great question though. It will help a lot of people when they read my explanation.
      Happy heating this winter my friend. 😊

      @@ITSTHISEASY thank you very much, nice explanation. But the hole of the external pot shouldn't be open?

      @@spriffel To answer your question, no.
      Click this link and it will take you to Amazon showing you another design. This design I don’t like however because the candles are exposed.

    not a safe way to do it - I have done the same and I put 4 in. The pot got black inside, so I know that the pot needs a hole on top to allow the heated air to flow so 2 tealights or one small olive oil light jar little lamb light, is best to have it light when you are home not left alone, need to have a carbon monoxide smoke alarm and powder extinguisher. Lay strong Foil around the pot for safety
    Make sure the Pot is not under the light and needs a cap, The olive oil Jar or a soup Tin size is about 3-4inch and the pot needs 8inch (10cm) above so the Oil won't get hot

      I don’t know what you did sir but you did not make the same setup I had. I have been using mine now for 2 years. No black in the pots and no fire. This is safe as far as I’m concerned or I wouldn’t be using it myself.
      If you blow the candles out before they burn out you can get black soot from that. If you had a hole in the pot you are defeating the purpose of the pots all together. Carbon monoxide is produced from incomplete combustion. If the candles are burning properly you will not have incomplete combustion. Not sure what your heat source was but tea light candles burn properly. I appreciate your comment but I would suggest you try making the same design I made and not deviate to something different. Or maybe you should just stick with your design if it works better for you. This video was for informational purposes only. I am using the design in my own home with zero issues. And as a firefighter for 30 years, I do not want to burn my own home down or hurt anyone else.
      If people were going to make one anyway I just wanted to show them what I’m using and feel safe using in my own home. It’s up to each individual to make their own decision if they want to try it for themselves.
      Have a nice day sir and I hope you stay warm as well.
