I’m am old guy so back in the day I used to own cars of various makes of that general, era including one of these 124’s. The pre-quartz electronic clocks in every brand never worked for long. My 124 was a couple years old when I bought it and the clock didn’t work but neither did the clock in most other cars back then, so I didn’t really expect it to. The old car clocks were strange devices that were mechanical wind up clocks, like an old school watch or alarm clock, plus an electrical mechanism running from the car voltage that rewound the mechanical clock every few minutes. Either the mechanical clock would fail from shock and temperature extremes and frequent windings, or the Rube Goldberg electrical solenoid winder would die. Everybody pretty much just looked at their wristwatch instead of bothering to keep the clock running.
