- Cross-contact can happen so easily and, for people with known food allergies, it is likely the most common source of accidental ingestion of allergens.
Cross-contact in baked goods, like this cookie, can come from:
🐾 The baking process, from ingredients or contaminated surfaces, or both.
🐾 Transfer or proximity with bakery items that do contain peanuts.
🐾 Handling the cookie (with gloves or hands) that previously touched an item that contains peanuts.
🐾 Utensils that came in contact with peanuts or items that contain peanuts (i.e. tongs that were used to pick up and move a peanut butter cookie and then used to move a chocolate chip cookie).
