You know, as horrible as this mission is, the lore behind it opens up an even darker can of worms. At this point in time, all the rampant corporate warfare has rendered the planet inhospitable and these Cradles more or less house the elite wealthy enough to buy their way out of the hellhole they helped create, leaving the rest of humanity to die. Even if you have the common sense to realize all-out genocide is NOT the answer to the problem, consider this little detail: One of the leading factions is ORCA, a terrorist group that also aims to bring down the Cradles but unlike Old King -- the lunatic paying you for this mission -- they are doing this in the hope of breaking the corporations' hold on humanity and help them migrate into space, whereas Old King is just a genocidal fuckhead with no grander intentions beyond all-out slaughter. Interestingly enough, their plan is more or less identical to what Armored Core 4's main villain tried to do, except he was in a much more advantageous position and he wanted to go the extra mile by eradicating all the corporations first to make absolutely sure his plan went off without a hitch. For stopping him and saving their collective asses, the corporations repaid you by flattening your colony and blackmailing one of your friends into killing you, who was set to die even if he had succeeded. And then your main character from that game dies here, in a mission where he defends his new colony from the very same corporations that double-crossed him before. Basically, at this particular juncture the corporations are no longer the lesser evil to anything anymore and these Cradles and the millions of people within are nothing more than meatshields for them to worm their way out of accountability for poisoning the entire planet. You know a game is dark when becoming Hitler X 10 and killing all of humanity not only proves to be the only permanent solution to the problem caused by the corporations, but is also more or less a logical conclusion to humanity's plight in the form of a collective mercy kill. Fuck, that got dark...
