I love your channel man. I’m 26, got into the world of VCRs and I’ve learned a lot thanks to you, even enough to repair mine by myself. Thank you, have a nice day.
Hello Dave, Thankyou for this very (for me) timely and potentially helpful video. My EVC 500 has sat unused for some years and now has that same initial problem we see when you ejected the tape. i.e. as the tape is ejected, the takeup spool spits out extra tape. I also noticed on mine that when playing or I think even fast forward the takeup side had slightly loose tape. I will do as you show in this video, and try and source some thin lithium grease. Oh and my rubber idler wheel (black takeup side cylinder) has hairline cracks in the rubber. The rubber tape area has worn down slightly but doesn't seem to be a problem. I might gently remove that and check underneath for rust/debrees. Again thanks for an excellent video. I might see if I can find one of yours covering the simple art of splicing as in this video. I too have one (of 20 to do) tapes with lead-end damage at start. 🤠🙃 Take care, Noel in Australia (NSW Coffs Harbour)
Hey Dave I just noticed I have the same Panasonic Tv as you have! Mine is over seven years old and still playing beautifully as it was when I bought it! I never had to service it! I wish they made these new TV's like them but your lucky if you get maybe three years out of the new ones! Thanks for the video great job.
Does anyone know what the purpose of the pale blue bit of plastic is that's screwed into the head drum (near the A6A22 number)? Some sort of counter-balance, some kind of reference point?
Its to help prevent the tape from jumping over the upper drum during threading and unthreading. It protrudes slightly so if tape rides up this will bump the tape and recenter it.

I actually just got that same unit, and its working very well.

This tv is 20 years old! 2003 model.
Merry Christmas! Lol. Great unit. I like seeing it work. And the repair of course!
Thanks for the info on Declared Value! I never knew... Cheers!
Nice unity, Sony makes good stuff
Haha, they also made some junk (EVS7000 with the take up hubs that break)
sad they don't make stuff like this anymore.
Very very nice repair !
I use "medium Zap" glue which has lasted for years in a larger container with the screw on cap has a long pin to keep the spout open.
Is there anyway i could speak to you about an issue im having with my sylvania model src2519
Don't know what that is
How about Moly BR2 Plus grease instead?
Have no idea as have not used it.
