- Congrats to all of you for supporting me to make it to my 100th episode! In this episode I provide my picks for the top 10 weirdest cars from Chrysler. Note this episode is edited by me, not the new editor I tested out with my last episode. Be sure to check out my top 10 GM and Ford weird car episodes too!
I recently wound up behind a Chrysler Crossfire Convertible, which I thought looked quite unique, dorky, weird but somehow kinda nice. Whenever I think of vehicles like it, I immediately think of that "sporty" convertible Saturn offered near its end. I've always liked the look of those admittedly. I've also always loved the look of the PT and the Prowler.
Yea I always like the crossfire, it sporty and still pull off being a guys cars
@@gunfighterzero Funny thing is, it was a granny in that crossfire haha. But yeah, a guys car, or hell, it even fits the "rich girl/woman" image too.
@@TheCriminalViolin
Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice. Short wheel base and it rides like a tank.
I liked the front end of the Crossfire but the rear end in it had that really bizarre slope that some of the Cadillacs of the 70s/early 80s had
The underpinnings where from Mercedes-Benz r170 (SLK)
Since Chrysler has always been the most "financially challenged/strapped.....aka: poorest" of the domestic three, the weird must have been their way to draw in potential customers.
Apparently their net earnings had been on average ONE TENTH (aka 10%) those of General Motors for decades, which was quite crazy. This in good years, because in bad years GM still registered massive profits (like in 1958, still literal hundreds of millions in net earnings) whilst Chrysler slumped to red.
They were definitely the underdogs but they still gave us a few classics👌
Their innovation was their greatest legacy. Many engineering firsts were by Chrysler & due to their forward thinking attitude towards tech advancement...
AMC did the same thing, maybe that’s where they got the idea.
In the 1990's Chrysler was the most profitable car company out of anyone!
I remember when the Prowler was launched even though it didn't sell in the UK a few were imported! I thought it was cool when it launched, it was featured on Top Gear and got a positive review but it seemed to get panned in the years after by Critics!
It looks cool, I love the crossfire as well.
I didn't think that the Dodge Ram SRT-10 was that weird. Also, congratulations on the 100 episode.
baddest muscle truck ever built
@@SquirminHermanthe1eyedGerman I agree 👍
A Viper powered truck is like something from Need for Speed. Its cool, but also weird 😂
@@MrTakaMOSHiThe Viper engine is hardly a sports car engine. 2 valves/cilinder, pushrod, low specific output and redline. Based on the Chrysler LA V8. GM offered a 8.1 litre V8 in their Avalanche. Nobody would call that weird.
@@DolleHengst I feel like more than just the engine from the halo car it's also the paintjob, the giant wheels, the single cab body with a short bed and the spoiler that prevents using the truck as a truck
If you realized the PT Cruiser was actually a small wagon it makes more sense.
And these are only the production cars. They went wild with concept cars.
The Eagle Talon TSI had an AWD 2.0T variant. And it is very highly regarded and sought after now.
I thought it was cool..as a kid in the early 2000s I used to see them here and there..parked somewhere....now....nada. 😔
Basically a hidden Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX model :)
Congratulations on 100 episodes!
I preferred the editing on this video vs previous.
FYI - there was some weird audio stuff occurring circa 0:17 (like an additional audio track was included by accident).
Sounded like the original voice over on the b&w footage
TC by Maserati was just a complete failure.
And Cadillac had the same concept in their Allante, which I think is Italian for bad idea!
@@robertdragoff6909Lincoln almost got a 2-seat luxury convertible similar to the Allante. Oldsmobile almost got a 2+2 seat coupe based on a modified Toronado platform (similar to the Reatta).
I'd love to have a Rampage, and also a Dakota convertible! Never cared for the Crossfire! It's a shame that the LeBaron came out before the TC! If it hadn't, the TC may have been more successful. The PT was kinda cool when first introduced, but I sure didn't want one. It's too bad that the Airflow didn't succeed. The Prowler was weird, but man, it was ballsy of Chrysler to build it, which makes me a fan! Liked and subscribed!
Awesome video. One small Correction: The Eagle Talon ESI Could be optioned with 4WD in 1995 when you got the Turbo, I believe.
Talon TSI*. But yes. The TSI could have AWD.
I looked at the Wikipedia page and it mentioned the Eagle Jazz concept car...it's a weird looking thing, like a Crossfire and a Maybach spliced together.
The Eagle Talon (part of the later Eagle brand that was unrelated to AMC) did have optional AWD, because it was based on the Mitsubishi Eclipse which also had AWD.
I do like the prowler, I always thought it was different like something you would have seen a gangsta driving in the 1920s. It was a cool concept.
Actually the Eagle Talon Tsi an Eclipse clone was AWD.
I remember when SRT10 came out. 2006's left on lots in 2008 recession, could buy new
100th episode dedicated to the greatest car manufacturer to ever exist, Plymouth!
I find it funny that Chrysler had a pickup model called the Drifter.
The RAM SRT-10 is such a gorgeous model of "We will throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks".
Yes, return to normal with this 100th episode ! One of the best car channels on UA-cam !
Ford australia sold their first ute( car based pickup) in 1934. The Holden was later than that
Congratulations on the 100th episode, found the channel a few months ago, have nearly fully caught up, look forward to the upcoming episodes.
I knew a guy that had one of those 4x4 Eagle cars. He was an oil producer and drove it out on the lease. Lots of rough muddy unimproved roads out there. He loved it because it was much more comfortable than the trucks available at that time. I have to say it was pretty capable with aggressive tires on it.
Chrysler has always been like a Southern boy doing what they can with what they have.
Chrysler bought AMC because they wanted Jeep. Chrysler would kill the Eagle brand a few years later
Fitting that now Chrysler faces the same ending.
Happy 100th episode!! :D I love this show!
Congratulations on hitting 100 episodes. I guess this means after I check out which of Chrysler ‘s cars made the list, it’ll be time for a re-watch.
I’m actually looking forward to doing that. 😃
Congratulations on reaching 100.
The Crossfire was a beautiful car.
At 19:25 ...This car looks weird...but a cool kind of weird...I love it!!!
With the Dakota convertible, it has a spiritual successor in the Jeep Gladiator
Rampage/ Scamp most similar to the Volkswagen Rabbit pickup.
And the Rabbit Pickup came out earlier, in 1979. So Chrysler was actually copying off VW for that one.
18:29 LOLOL just like the Cybertruck demo 🪨🪟💥
Please do a video on the Ford Explorer sport trac pickup
Keep asking.
Love to see a Chrysler TC by Maserati go 185
It's been 100 videos already?!? Jeez, congratulations man!
I remember recently watching a documentary on those Chrysler turbine cars, I was surprised that they looked a lot like the 60s Thunderbirds, and apparently they were pretty cool but too expensive to make I guess some of the people they got those two drive said the mileage was great and also they would go real fast. Apparently though they sounded real strange when they hummed by you.
Amazing the poor braking wasn't mentioned which I always thought was the main tick against them...
Hudson also made an El Camino type vehicle.
Will you have an episode about "designer cars"?
Episode about wierd AMC cars?
1973 AMC Sportabout Gucci option is mine.
It would be awesome if there was a video on the Designer Series of the Lincoln Continental Mark coupe. Said designer models were the Pucci, Givenchy, Cartier, and Bill Blass editions.
Chrysler in Australia was making utes from the 30's. Also Plymouth, Dodge and De soto.
Hey man, I've got a weird car... well minivan, I think would be a cool pick for a spot on a video. The 80's Toyota minivan. Not the previa, the one before it. It looks AMAZINGLY similar to a Nissan of the time that didn't come to the US. For decades, I thought that my childhood Transformers toy of Ironhide and his repaint Ratchet, were the toyota van. We had one when I was younger. We drove it from Charlotte NC, to Key West FL many many times. The hood, was literally the driver's seat lol
17:11 Are we simply going to ignore how awesome that 1932 Airflow Trifan concept car looks? I would totally drive that everyday. Just simply a beastly and beautiful vehicle. Perfection.
On another note I disagree with you on the Dodge Ram SRT-10... it was and is still COOL!!!
I still love the prowler. I love the look and always will
Amazing what the minds of engineers and marketing people create. Thanks for the video.
Srt 10 is dream truck only big truck I'd settle for
The only problem with the prowler was the lack of a v8 or v10 option. Had that been the case, it would have probably seen a hellcat like reception. A built 360 magnum or a viper engine in a small car like that would have been insane! Even adding 2 cylinders to the 3.5L would have been much better. granted, the 3.5l wasn't a slouch, but it really needed a v8.
1996 Dodge Dakota was the only brand new vehicle I ever bought, 260K when I gave it away in 2007. Loved it!
I really liked the crossfire. I thought it was really sharp when it came out. The mechanical spoiler that pops up is a cool feature
How about a top 10 list for Studebaker??
The crossfire is nice imho
You should make videos on Infiniti. Especially the M37, M56 series that evolved into the 2015 through 2019 Q70, Q70S, Q70L & Q70H.
I love the Ram SRT10. Checked all the right boxes. Bigass n/a engine, manual trans, rwd, big brakes, cool paint job, usable bed. Honestly the i
There was nothing particularly short-lived about the Pantera. It was produced from 1971 into the 1990s.
Yea but they only made 1500 cars from 75-90, saying it was a production car is being generous
@@gunfighterzero Some very hand-made cars are like that.
Saw a Desoto airflow in 2016 pulling a lightweight oxygen travel trailer! Oxygen is the brand name for the TT which was made in Quebec Canada!
Some of the Chrysler body styles from the late 50s to the early 60s were out of this world😅
In '99, I bought a Dakota R/T. Great fast truck. Almost bought the Ram Viper but it had a $5K government impact charge. So I went with the Supercharged Ford Lightning.
I has a Crossfire and loved the way it drove but it had the most uncomfortable seats. I got rid of it in about six months. Despite Jeremy Clarkson's opinion I still like the look of it. Something right out of Dick Tracy
I always loved the look of the Crossfire, I just couldn’t stand the 90s SLK interior with how nice and modern it looked on the outside. If it was updated with a newer interior I would have definitely bought one.
Sorry, but you are wrong about the first Utility (ute) built by Holden (GMH) Australia, the vehicle you showed was an FJ Holden 1953-56 the model before that was the first Holden utility built from January 1951, the (50-2106 ute) better known as the FX Holden. Ford Australia however built their first utility in 1934.
The prowler was mostly just a disappointment . It really needed a supercharger, turbo, ot 2 more cylinders
💯 Episode!!!! 💯
Congrats 🍾🎊
Chrysler I reckon were always the innovators, when they were the Chrysler Corporation and stood alone that is.
I owned a Crossfire. I loved that little car. I would probably still have it, but family life intervened.
🙂.. we do remember.
Some of those will be quite rare to find tody
When I was a kid growing up there was someone that lived around me in canada that had the AMC eagle station wagon. The guy didn't drive it much always had it parked with a cover over it but you can still tell it was an eagle by how it stood.
Thanks for the nice video.
Regarding your comment that Plymouth was the highest aluminium use car to that day, doesn't Honda NSX predate the Prowler with an all-aluminium body?
I always thought the Prowler was so cool when it first came out.
The TC looked like a Lebaron with some tasteless modifications.
Had an AMC Eagle and loved it.
The Chrysler Turbine was a concept that Chrysler let some members of the public drive these things to test the concept.
5:26. Incorrect. In 1990, the resurrected Eagle brand included the Eagle Talon TSi, which was available in 4WD/AWD
That darn chuck foose
Can you do a video on the Nissan sx cars?
I wouldn't mind having a Dodge Rampage. It would make an interesting first vehicle. By the way, I'm sure you could find a top 10 list of weird AMC vehicles.
My father once owned a 2001 & a 2009 PT Cruiser (not at the same time though) and enjoyed it driving up until he had it replaced by the '09 model which by the way it still runs & drives by my mom.
What about the Viper Defender? Chrysler designed a new car for a TV show. Off a Viper Chassis. MSX or AutoNorth from Michigan built 2 cars for Chrysler. 1.5-1.7 million each. Both with V10s
I think the turbine car is super cool, but definitely the strangest, to any car manufacturer.
The first gen viper engine never went into a truck. The HD iron block, heads and intake are completely different.
I remember working at a chrysler dealer in the mid 90's. You had to be a "5 star dealer" to even get a prowler.
Eagles had the rebadged eclipse, called talón that was available in awd.
Man. I want a Rampage now...
The '69 Barracuda wasn't the last vehicle unique to Plymouth before the Prowler. The 1970 Duster was. Dodge didnt get their version until 1971 with the Demon.
Look at the ssr commercial. It looks like Steve Buscemi in glasses from Sopranos and Alan Ritchson from Reacher. Tell me I'm wrong.
I'd like to put a PT Cruiser body on a 72 Scamp frame with a 225 slant 6 and a 3 speed standard. I would say a 65 Ford Fairlane with a 200 inline 6 cylinder with 3 speed standard but I hate cross breeded cars.
Definitely missed this editing style
The dodge convertible pick up looks good, the crossfire is cool to.
I love the AMC eagles, esp the 2 door hatchback.
Omg this video is just to good 😂😂😂😂keep it up!
1986/87 Chrysler Laser 2.2L turbo
Manual transmission with the lovely lady telling me to put on my seat belt
Car show in Rockwood Tennessee. Pt cruiser with a hemi in it. Sleeper? Yeah I'll say.
I would have included the early stealth, cause an early 90s cars with 4 wheel steering should have been mentioned
Thanks for the video.
Those AMC eagles were great they all went 300000 miles or more
The AMC 4x4 was made as a convertible "Sundancer". You missed that option.
They should have stretched the Prowler a little and stiffened it then put on turbos. Then you would have something really fun.
I wonder if a 3.6 pentastar would fit into a prowler.
VW had the new Beetle. The English an updated (German) Mini and Citroen a version, looking much like the 2CV. Fiat made a new 500. The Americans had the PT Cruiser!
that pretty much describes all of them
I like the Prowler. But Chrysler should've had a V6 Like the Buick GSX.
A reliable Chrysler would be the weirdest of all.
💯
If you want a PT , go for a Diesel built by Magna Steyr in Austria. They are decent cars and have a better quality interior than the US version.
Part of the reason the Dakota convertible sort of failed is a lot of dealers in the Midwest & north refused to allow customers to order them with this option. I know, I tried. Went to 6 different dealerships & got the same runaround. So I went & bought a Mazda.
